The FJ's original owner used it on his property on Tinker's Creek in Valley View, Oh (all farms, ranches and very few paved roads back then) until he sold it in '99 to a neighbor on Stone Rd., who converted it to the fiberglass tub w/ a Kayline roof (I still have the manual) and either ran out of time/money or both so it sat until I purchased it August of '21 (I also live in Valley View). It still has the original frame and transmission. The frame is rock solid and I cleaned up most of the surface scale and applied Rustoleum. I installed a new Summit Racing ATK high performance GM 350 Vortec 290 HP Stage 3 long block crate engine HP99c (more about that below), new Summit Racing Hitachi starter, had Premier Truck in Valley View resurface the flywheel and inspect and approve the rest of the clutch assy, replaced the universal joints throughout, added new gear oil in all drive train housings, added a new Summit Racing fuel cell CJ2A, replaced brakes all around (pads, calipers, shoes and wheel cylinders), installed a new American Autowire power wire harness kit w/ 20 circuit connections, new battery, new Procomp PRC-M monotube shocks (front and rear), new Procomp EXP20520B steering and stabilizer kit, new Procomp tires 35x12.50R15 Extreme NT2-75033 on new aluminum rims, added Hooker headers and a custom dual exhaust and put in a new Valley Hybrids speedo housing and seal.
It starts, idles, runs, shifts, rides exactly as it should and it does run a bit rich (I can smell a little gas). The headlights, brake lights work, the turn signals are intermittent, the RPM, MPH, water and oil gauges are not yet functional. The odometer and voltmeter work. I installed a kill switch for all electrical. I do get a few small drips near the transfer case after driving it for a while. I have the receipts for all of the big ticket items.
I've put just under 2K miles on the Land Cruiser since doing the aforementioned work and have run out of garage space (AKA too many toys). For sale locally on CL Cleveland and FB as well. Thank you for looking and feel free to contact me with any questions.
