This 1957 Studebaker Commander Provincial Station Wagon is a beautifully restored, 50s wagon with quintessential 50s flair! 1957 was a significant year for the Studebaker-Packard Corporation in that it marked the first time that the company, which was the result of a merger of the namesake American independent automakers, produced vehicles using the same body shell. In other words, besides just badging and minor trim differences, a Studebaker and a Packard was essentially the same car. On the Studebaker side, little changed on Studebaker's passenger cars from 1956 into 1957. The most notable change on the Studebakers was a redesigned front grille that now wrapped around the front end into the sides. The other major stylistic update was that the '57 Studebakers also sported larger taillights from the previous year design. Perhaps most relevant here was that 1957 also marked the the first time since World War II that Studebaker offered a 4-door wagon design with the addition of the Provincial Station Wagon to Studebaker's passenger car lineup. Nonetheless, 1957 was just a so-so sales year for the Studebaker-Packard Corporation with total production sitting just over 63,000 units and placing Studebaker-Packard in 13th place among American automaker production totals. That being said, only 3,995 of the Commander Provincial Station Wagons were produced which makes this particular example quite a rare Studebaker from the 1950s. Under the hood on this '57 Studebaker Provincial Station Wagon is a 259 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 180 horsepower when new. The 259 V8 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive that makes this 50s Station Wagon a truly enjoyable car to drive. Exhaust leaves the Studebaker 259 via a dual exhaust setup that generates a nice throaty sound out of the rear tailpipes. This 1957 Studebaker Station Wagon cruises down the road smoothly on a set of wide whitewall radial tires, each paired with a wire basket wheelcover, that gives this classic wagon a great look and even better ride! Squeezing into a tight parking space at the local car show or drive-in is a total breeze since this 1957 Studebaker Commander Wagon is equipped with power steering. Further helping you squeeze into that tight spot is a pair of fender-mounted outside chrome mirrors that help you see what's on either side. The exterior of this Studebaker has been refinished in a two-tone paint scheme consisting of Taupe Metallic over Midnight Black that completes the beautiful exterior appearance of this Station Wagon. The interior of this 1957 Studebaker Commander Provincial Wagon is absolutely gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in beautiful black vinyl with taupe cloth inserts that complement the exterior look of this wagon. The matching upholstered door panels, black carpeting, painted dash, rubber lined rear compartment, and steering wheel are all in wonderful condition as well and appear to be in their stock configuration. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 115 MPH rotary-style Speedometer, along with indicators for amps, engine temperature, oil pressure and fuel. The dash is finished off with a push-button AM radio, clock, ashtray, and locking glovebox. Whether you're buying your first classic station wagon or you're adding to an existing collection of classic wagons, this 1957 Studebaker Commander Provincial Station Wagon would make an excellent addition.
