This 1942 Packard Eight Series 2021 Convertible Coupe is a beautifully restored pre-war convertible that has great curb appeal and is a super fun car to take for a drive. When Packard debuted its 20th Series lineup of passenger cars for the 1942 model line on August 25, 1941, few could have imagined that they would become the last Packards off the production line for the next four years; and, even fewer people likely could have imagined that the reason why. Just a few short months after Packard's debut of its Twentieth Series automobiles, on December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked killing thousands of Americans and forcing the United States to enter World War II. In January of 1942, the War Production Board was established to oversee rationing of the US's critical war supplies. Then, on February 9, 1942, American civilian automotive production was shut down so that the America's automakers could focus their efforts entirely on the war effort. For this reason, collectors and classic car enthusiasts rarely see automobiles from 1942 which is a shame since the 1942 Packards were simply stunning. Packard had released new designs including the new Clipper, which for 1942 looked totally futuristic and about 10 years ahead of its time. Packard's open touring models, such as the Convertible Coupe, retained the classy and elegant design from the 1940 body changeover that was carried into 1941 and 1942. Perhaps the biggest update for 1942's Convertible model was the addition of a powered convertible top, a feature that was just beginning to appear on Packard's competitor's cars at the time such as Cadillac and Lincoln, with Packard's version appearing a few years later. This particular Packard Eight comes to us from southern collections that served as great stewards of the car in the years that followed its Second Place Prize at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. Powering this '42 Packard Convertible is a 282 Cubic Inch L-Head Inline 8 cylinder engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 125 horsepower when new. The 282 Straight 8 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using the column-mounted "three-on-the-tree" shifter. Exhaust exits this Packard's engine via a single exhaust setup that generates a pleasant sound out of the rear tailpipe that is tucked underneath a chrome exhaust deflector. This 1942 Packard Eight comes loaded with options! Dual chrome spotlights are a nifty addition to any vintage automobile since they help provide additional light to help you find your destination at night. A pair of chrome outside mirrors are also a welcome option on this Series 2021 Packard Eight since they make squeezing into a tight space at the local car show or drive in much easier. Dual covered sidemounted spare tires further elevate the luxurious exterior appearance of this pre-war classic car. The beige cloth power convertible top is in wonderful condition and it goes up and down with the simple flick of a switch. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this Packard is in great shape and shows particularly well. Riding on a set of wide whitewall radial tires that are accented with full chrome wheelcovers, this '42 Packard Convertible has a great look and even better ride. The exterior of this 1942 Packard 8 Convertible has been refinished in beautiful black paint that completes the exterior look of this pre-war classic. The interior of this 1942 Packard Eight Series 2021 Convertible Coupe is gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in beautiful Oxblood Red leather. The matching red carpeting, matching door panels, painted dash and steering wheel appear to be in great shape and appear to retain a nice stock appearance. The instrument cluster comes equipped with a 100 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, battery gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash is finished with a push-button AM radio with speaker, locking glovebox, clock, and ashtray. Whether you're buying your first classic car or you're adding to your existing collection of classics, this 1942 Packard Eight Series 2021 Convertible Coupe would make an excellent addition.
