This listing is for my 1956 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible. Please read the entire description before emailing me. It’s an unrestored original factory black car with red leather interior and 81K miles. Equipped with power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, dual exhaust, back up lights, spinner hubcaps, AM radio dash clock, and Autronic Eye.
It’s one of 9,561 Super 88 Convertibles built in 1956 (total Olds production for ‘56 was 493,487). After nearly 70 years not many remain… very few are still drivable and even fewer are restorable.
The car is almost completely rust free and not missing any parts. There is small rust spot on the leading edge of the hood, and two tiny rust spots the size of a pencil eraser on the outer rockers (one on each rocker). There is no rust anywhere else on this car. No rust on the floors, inner rockers, fenders, doors, quarters, or trunk. The bottom of the car was undercoated when it was new and has spent it’s entire life in a dry garage (40 years in SoCal, almost 25 years in AZ). The car has never been in an accident, and still wears all of its original paint.
The car is currently registered but has not been on the road since 1973. I have registrations dating back to 1956 with renewal decals still stapled to registrations from 1974 (when the car was put in dry storage). The original paint still shines with no lacquer checking. The hood/trunk and tops of the fenders do have patina, but the sides of the car look great. I have the original "temporary" registration dated June 30, 1956 and the original title dated July 5, 1956.
The car runs well (from a bottle). It still needs a few things to be considered a "driver". The radiator needs to be re-cored; the exhaust needs to be replaced, the fuel lines need to be cleaned out, and the treadle-vac needs to be rebuilt (I have all new brake parts in boxes except the treadle-vac), and the re-chromed bumpers need to be re-installed. In the last few weeks, I’ve tuned up the motor, rebuilt the fuel pump, cleaned out the tank, rebuilt the carburetor, distributor, generator and replaced belts/hoses. The flipper hubcaps are on the car (just not in the first pic). Only the bumpers are not physically on the car.
The front/rear bumpers, hood jet, headlight rings, front/rear emblems were all re-chromed. The Super 88 fender emblems are NOS in the wrappers. The side window frames, and interior chrome were not touched. I have extra “nice driver quality” interior chrome that will come with the car. All 5 wheels were powder-coated red, and the tires are new, and the flipper caps are in nice condition. None of the glass is cracked, the car even retains the original bumper jack and one T3 headlight. I also have a bunch of extra parts that will go with the car.
The car is nicely equipped, almost rust free, and highly documented. It would make a great platform for a high-quality restoration… or replace the top/interior and drive the car as an unrestored original (nothing is missing). It even still has the original spiral shocks. Unfortunately, with the car being in my shop it’s difficult to get really good pics. I tried to get the important shots, but if you need a particular angle I’ll do my best to get it for you.
I have the keys; a clear transferable AZ title and I can help with loading. Buyer is responsible for ordering and securing transport. The vehicle is located just outside Tucson in Marana Arizona 85653. Please look at all the images and email me with any questions before purchasing.
$500 Pay-Pal deposit required immediately, and the balance to be paid in cash or certified US funds within 7 days (no checks or wired funds or international currency). The title doesn’t transfer until your funds are secured by my bank. The car is sold as is, with no warranties expressed or implied. I’ve owned the car for a few years, if it doesn’t sell I’ll keep it and restore it. I’m only listing it on eBay one time to gauge interest… If you see this car listed anywhere outside of eBay, it’s a fake listing. COE in back ground not for sale.
