The history behind this MG TD adds an extra layer of significance to its already charming character. Purchased by the original owner after returning from the Korean War and unable to find a suitable American sports car, this MG TD has been cherished for decades. Following the original owner's passing in 2020, the car found its way into the hands of the most recent owner, who ensured its mechanical integrity for reliable driving.

Although the car underwent a respray from white to blue at some point, it remains complete with covers, side curtains, and a top. The presence of the original owner's manual, recent service receipts, and parts invoices further enhances its provenance and documentation. As a fantastic runner and driver, this 1952 Series TD exemplifies the timeless appeal of the MG brand and represents an excellent example of automotive history. We're excited to present this classic MG TD for sale and invite you to experience its vintage charm firsthand.

PLEASE VIEW OUR YouTube VIDEO carefully as it is an extremely detailed analysis of the car.

The Exterior

The original white color peeking through the fender edging and grille slats adds a touch of nostalgia to this MG TD's exterior. Despite its age, the car presents itself beautifully, with a straight and well-maintained body that reflects its original metals. While some minor blemishes are expected, they do little to detract from the overall appeal of the vehicle, as showcased in the detailed pictures and video.

All exterior components, including the lights, glass, top, covers, lenses, trim, and hardware, are in excellent condition and contribute to the car's cohesive appearance. Although there are some areas with minor paint flaking, they do not pose any significant concerns and add character to the vehicle. While a potential respray could elevate its condition further, the current presentation exudes a charming vintage allure that is hard to resist.

Additionally, the convertible frame is in excellent condition, and the top remains taught and visually appealing. Although the side curtains may require repainting in the future, they are still serviceable. The inclusion of a new tonneau cover adds practicality and ensures the car remains dry in inclement weather. Overall, this MG TD exudes character both inside and out, making it a standout example of automotive history.

The Interior:

The interior of this MG TD is truly captivating, boasting a rich deep red color scheme that exudes elegance and sophistication. The dash is well-maintained, with recently refurbished tachometer and speedometer that enhance the vintage charm of the cabin. The meticulously restored steering wheel, courtesy of Steering Wheel Bob, adds a touch of luxury and was a worthwhile investment.

While the seats appear to have been reupholstered at some point, they maintain a period-correct aesthetic and are in excellent condition, contributing to the overall allure of the interior. The switches operate smoothly and effectively, with the exception of the electric wipers, which currently require attention. However, the wipers can still be manually operated, ensuring functionality when needed.

Key components such as the headlights, hi/low switch, and fuel mixture adjuster are all in proper working order, demonstrating the care and maintenance this vehicle has received over the years. The carpets are well-preserved, and the original pedal area adds to the authenticity of the interior. The presence of an Arnolt Heater, although untested, offers additional comfort for occupants during colder weather.

Completing the interior is a rear mat in excellent condition, while the convertible top seamlessly tucks away behind the seats when not in use. Additionally, the inclusion of a brand new rearview mirror (included in sale) and seat belts adds both aesthetic appeal and safety enhancements to this classic vehicle. Overall, the interior of this MG TD is a testament to its timeless design and meticulous upkeep.

Under the Hood:

It's impressive to note that the original TD2 engine still powers this MG TD, maintaining its authenticity with matching numbers to the car. The engine performs admirably, running smoothly with a quiet, low idle that reflects its well-maintained condition. Recent servicing has ensured optimal performance, resulting in a seamless driving experience without any smoking at any RPM.

Under the hood, the engine bay presents itself as tidy and well-organized, indicative of proper care and attention. The vehicle operates on a 12-volt charging system, contributing to its reliability and efficiency. The cooling system is in excellent working order, effectively maintaining optimal temperature levels during operation, a testament to the car's overall robustness.

The presence of the factory tool kit, complete and in good condition, adds to the authenticity and completeness of the vehicle. Additionally, the original trim tags remain intact and legible, further confirming the vehicle's originality and providing valuable historical context. Overall, the mechanical integrity of this MG TD, combined with its original components and meticulous maintenance, ensures a rewarding driving experience for its fortunate owner.

Under the Car:

It's reassuring to observe that the underside of the MG TD exhibits no indications of damage or prior accidents, underscoring its well-preserved condition over the years. While some typical scaling is present, as depicted in the images, it does not appear to compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. Normal oil residue beneath the engine is to be expected but does not suggest any significant leaks or issues.
The driveline appears to be in excellent shape and retains its original components, contributing to the vehicle's authenticity and integrity. The floorboards and outriggers are commendably solid throughout, indicating the car's resilience and robust construction. Additionally, the exhaust system appears to be free of rust and operates quietly, reflecting proper maintenance and care.
Overall, the underside inspection confirms the MG TD's sound mechanical condition and underscores its suitability for enjoyable driving experiences with confidence in its reliability and longevity.

On the Road:

It's evident that this MG TD offers an exceptional driving experience, characterized by its superb handling and reliable performance. The car tracks smoothly and maintains stability, providing a reassuring driving feel on the road. Braking is responsive and instills confidence, allowing for controlled stops with ease.

The transmission operates with precision, delivering accurate shifts and a tight feel, enhancing the overall driving dynamics. Additionally, the clutch pedal exhibits a reassuring feel underfoot, further contributing to the vehicle's drivability and responsiveness.

Acceleration is brisk and seamless, highlighting the car's agility and responsiveness to driver inputs. The functionality of turn signals and all lights ensures safety and compliance with road regulations, underscoring the car's reliability and suitability for enjoyable drives.
