I bought this car in 1992 from the 3rd owner who lived in Phoenix, Arizona. It is an original accident-free numbers matching survivor car. This rare classic has spent its entire life in the Phoenix metropolitan area. This is the dry desert southwest – little rain, no ice, no snow, no salty roads. And that means NO RUST! The car was bought new at Brit Smith Datsun, Mesa, Arizona, in 1969.
From 1965-1970, a total of 31,350 1600 Roadsters were made by Datsun. 1969 production was only 3,000 cars, most of which are gone.
In the 31 years I have owned this car, I have kept it 99% original. The car has never been taken apart and restored. However, it has been carefully preserved and renovated where needed. Any items that needed attention were always repaired with OEM NOS parts. Or quality reproduction parts if NOS parts were not available. And anything unoriginal can easily be converted back to original.
My goal for this car was to carefully preserve it to be an attractive and reliable original survivor that can be driven and enjoyed. It is NOT a perfect frame-off restoration to show at Pebble Beach. So please keep that in mind.
This car will come with a large binder of every receipt and/or repair ever done while in my possession. Way too much to list. But here is a quick overview:
Exterior - Never wrecked, no accidents. Original paint color: “Off White.” Datsun paint code 655. Because it is a survivor, in mostly original paint, it has patina, scratches, a few areas of thin paint and lots of small rock chips. Most dings removed by PDR. Sheet metal and stainless-steel body side molding original, clean and straight. New windshield.
Interior - All new red (original color) interior. Genuine Dynamat® under carpet eliminates road noise. New black convertible top. Original radio.
Engine - Professionally rebuilt engine and cylinder head. New clutch, pressure plate, etc. Original smog/air pump! OEM NOS Japanese market distributor with factory original curve for best engine performance. Engine compartment repainted. NOS muffler. Original “megaphone” style exhaust pipe tip.
Carburetors - Rebuilt by ZTherapy. Recently adjusted, tuned and synchronized.
Wheels - Powder coated wheels, re-chromed hubcaps, and 4 new expensive Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. These tires are premium quality, V speed rated and Hunter Road Force® balanced! The car drives straight, smooth and corners great!
Trunk - Full matching spare and original trunk mat. Floor of trunk repaired and repainted.
Brakes - All rebuilt. NOS master cylinder.
Suspension - All rebuilt.
The car also comes with its original tonneau cover, original convertible top boot, original factory service manual and reproduction owner’s manual. I will also include lots of spare parts including the previous windshield.
This car needs nothing. All the fluids are fresh. It is licensed, registered and insured. It is reliable, safe and of daily driver quality.
Best of all, this classic roadster runs excellent and looks great! White paint with a red interior is among the most stunning color combos ever conceived! Wherever it goes, it gets lots of attention. People stop, stare, and smile!
You or a proxy should conduct a pre-purchase inspection of this vehicle to make sure it meets your expectations. My binder of receipts which document this vehicles renovation and preservation will be available for review. With that being said, this is a 55 year old vehicle. It is being sold as-is and has no warranty. I am always available to answer any and all questions.
Phone: 480-759-6774. This is a landline. NO TEXTS!! They won’t go through.
Also, this car is being advertised in the Phoenix local market, therefore this listing may be ended in the event of a local sale.
Make sure to check out my other listing for an immaculate, 1978 Datsun 280Z. I will make a great package deal for the two Datsun’s! Thank you!
