I’ve spent the last couple years restoring my ’88 M3.
I bought it locally here in CT in the fall of 2021 and brought it in to my friends shop that winter for a touch up on the sunroof.
That led to a decision to go all out with a full glass-out restoration of the car…
It is a DS car from the factory, and he spent months disassembling, prepping, painting and reassembling over the last 1.5 years. The end product is a very very high end paint job, it is like glass.
When I bought it, it had some modifications done that I wasn’t much of a fan of, so, the decision to get it back to OEM was made, and that was the focus of the entire build.
It retains it’s Supersprint exhaust. Aftermarket head unit. And modified front bumper. Period Sparco strut brace.
Well north of $35K has been spent on this E30 over the past year to get it to this point.
Some highlights, among a very long list of other new parts:
-Completely redone interior with new front/rear leather, new straps on the driver side.
-Brand new BMW OEM windshield and gasket.
-Brand new BBS 16” OEM wheels and center caps, with brand new Dunlop tires
-New rotors, pads and sensors
-All brand new Bilstein suspension front and rear
-Refreshed front strut housings up front (the old housings were pulled off, as they were cut and welded for the BC suspension that was on this car prior).
-New front/rear wheel bearings
-New lollipop/control arm bushings
-New exhaust hangers
-Spark plugs and newer rail
-Garagistic knee panel
-H&R Springs (Sport)
-Bav Motorsports re-did the Cluster
-New OEM shift knob and surround, e-brake handle leather
-New Interstate battery
-New wiper arms, hardware and blades
-New headlights and wiring
-Also, an upgraded 4.10LSD OEM Rear Differential was installed a few months back, thanks to the help of S14 guru Ron Checa. He sold me a very nice one with new bearings, and an upgraded 3 clutch disc set up.
-New front and rear bumper strip vinyl with new rear side markers
-Comes with a soft indoor car cover, and a good amount of spare parts (including the spare OEM exhaust set up).
The A/C is capped, but comes with the original compressor and a new OEM bracket.
During the restoration process, I documented everything down to the door cards and inner fenders coming out with photos along the way.
Every VIN matches except for the drivers door (replaced sometime in the past, I do not have documentation of it). Since this was a repaint, I did the proper procedure with BMW of Ridgefield to order the new VIN sticker and door jamb sticker (receipt included)
I have a lot of receipts back into the 1990’s with a well documented binder in sequential order in page protectors.
The owners manual, books, tool kit, two keys and window sticker.
Alignment completed 17 MAY 2024.
This is as far as I'm taking the car. There are still some things to do, but mostly small items.
Needs (most if not all of this was addressed within the BaT write up, or comments section).
-A/C is not hooked up (capped off) but the compressor and bracket (new) come with the car.
-No front undertray lip installed on the front bumper
-Stereo is not hooked up (to the speakers)
-Washer fluid cap needs to be sourced
-Underhood apron needs to be installed, I have it, and new clips
-It currently has a CATLESS Supersprint exhaust, but comes with a stock exhaust as a spare, with cats
-Glovebox hardware needs to be installed (the back 3 screws)
-right side inner trunk carpet piece is missing
-Gas cap lock actuator is included, but not hooked up
-A few of the pieces in the case are missing
I have a THICK three ring binder with all of my receipts and previous owner receipts going back into the 1990's.
I have the original window sticker. I have a clean CT title in my name. I had the front turn signals integrated into the city lights/headlights. As you can see, the previous owner modified the front bumper to delete the side markers, fog lights, and turn signals. It is the original (with VIN sticker) front bumper.
Modifications:
-Dinan Cam sprocket
-Sparco strut brace (painted DS black)
-CD player/head unit is aftermarket
-Vorsteiner drivers/passenger floot mats
-Amp installed in the trunk, it is wired but not hooked up
*A wire is the only payment type that will be accepted for my BMW*
*It is sold AS IS where is, no warranty expressed or implied*
