Details
This classic U.S. spec 1974 BMW 2002 still retains its original 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder engine and original Inka Orange paint. The car was imported from Belgium in the 1980s to Washington state when it was soon sold to the second owner, who cared for the 2-door coupe until selling to the current owner in 2023. With only three owners and 130,380 miles, it makes this example quite attractive.
The 2.0-liter engine is backed by an upgraded five-speed manual transmission borrowed from a 320i. Other modifications include a shock tower brace, an aftermarket air filter, an aftermarket stereo, Alpina-style wheels, and a stainless steel exhaust.
This vehicle received a raft of recent services in 2023, including Recaro sport seats, new brake calipers, stainless steel brake lines, new brake pads, brake fluid flush, Bilstein struts and shocks, HR Sport suspension, a coolant flush, all new belts, a new Weber carburetor, new wheels and tires, a new battery, and an exhaust system. It also received dry ice cleaning of the undercarriage. The owner reports this 2002 will easily keep up with freeway traffic and will go 80 to 90 MPH without issue thanks to the 5th gear. The car is offered with the owners manual one set of keys, and a binder of maintenance records.
This BMW 2002 is a Premium listing being sold by Phil McNamee in Bellingham, WA.
About the model
When it was introduced in 1968, the BMW 2002 Base Model was only available as a coupe. Although other body styles would be offered, the coupe was the only body style built through the entirety of production. The 2002 was powered by BMW's M05 engine, which was a 2.0L inline four that had an output of 99hp that drove the rear wheels. Three transmission options were available during the course of production, a standard 4 speed manual, as well as a 3-speed automatic or 5-speed manual. The BMW 2002 was in production until 1976, when it was replaced by the BMW 3 Series.
