Question?

410-562-8317 (Jim)

You are bidding on a ’98 Jeep Cherokee owned by one family for 16 years. Basicaly a commuter Jeep in a family with 4 -5 cars. Clean, well cared for, low mileage with a  classic 5 speed manual transmission. Nice truck and it will last a long time .

And btw, owned by $100 per hour,  tech-type white collar professionals -  not kids running it in the words over stumps! Very nice. And of course  has , 5 speed manual transmission that’s so desirable.

Moreover - This is an accident free, clean Carfax, certified  vehicle. Owned in affluent Northern Virginia for 16 years and run on freeways. Never wrecked damaged or any claims made on it. Also includes solid Carfax Guarantee Buyback. (see Guarantee in pictures)

These newer  5 speed Jeeps always seem to be popular, but they are hard to find in low mileage . As everyone knows if you’re reading this - , these Cherokees, when cared for, last forever. And even  longer (preserves engine life) if it’s a 5 speed manual transmission .(See my explanation  below ) .

These engines are nearly indestructible. The 4 liter in line six is arguably one of the best engines ever made by any American car company. Absolutely outstanding.  They will go more than 300K miles with modestly proper care.

This one starts well, great power, very  smooth, reliable, just a nice power plant .

Engine oil is clean, just coming to the  oil maintenance time.   No sign of engine oil leaks whatsoever.

Brakes are excellent; they feel almost new.  Hold strongly, including the  E- brake .

I drove it for 2 weeks and loved it.  I also took down on the beach and slammed it into 4 x 4 and  …”OH YEAH” ….. does everything it’s supposed to – with ease ! Accelerates strongly powerfully and confidently off the line.  Climbs hills, handles sand, tons of torque and acceleration power. Well, you know the drill. Comfortable, dependable, powerful and even kind of exhilarating - for a older dude like me.

Checked the 4x4 function .  Down on the beach and in the park area here - to check the 4 wheel drive function.  A mini beast.  I can imagine it would be very very effective in the snow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good heat.

Air conditioning is excellent . Cold and consistent.

Power windows,  power mirrors and power locks. .

Nice SONY brand after market CD player tuner .

Nice features like tilt steering  . Glass is all good

Tires – are OK  but, honestly, one of the few points that are not   great. OK, but  not pristine. Maybe the  only add on I’d do if  this were  my jeep, before snow flies I’d consider to put some new ones on it and  it would  go throught absolutely anything.  The existing ones  passed   are “OK” , passed state inspection  a while back… but – just being really honest and critical - I’d love to see new ones on it.

The exhaust is fineThis is the nicer SPORT model and as such has the nicer power window package and power locks mirrors and other little niceties.

Adjustable roof rack.  All the other stuff - jack, handle, tire iron etc carefully stowed as it should be under the rear seat.

Seats and carpets –wise  it’s excellent also.  Seats are 100% fresh, unbroken and clean. Carpets very clean, one tiny  simple dirt smudge under driver foot .

Paint is good-excellent.  No wear through at all. Paint otherwise is excellent . Good sheen and few if any bad spots. Nice shine . Few imperfections as always with  black, couple normal tiny touch spots.

Body is excellent. Straight and few if any dings. One golf ball size spot pushed in a bit on rubber bumper cover corner right front corner.  Underside has been  sealcoated with  a rust stopper perma-bond seal coat. Looks ready for snow

Gas mileage -  with the manual transmission, this Jeep gets  better fuel economy  than an automatic.  ( about 4-8 % better fuel economy).

LOOKS better than several other companion Jeeps we had that are a year or two newer.  ( I remind you, vehicles often seem to look a just a tiny smidge  bit better in photographs than in reality…something about digital photography)

The power windows go up and down just fine, but you want to ease off on the button as soon as its fully up, at least on the driver side one otherwise the little notched wheel inside will "rat-a-tat tat" - a sign of a worn little plastic wheel gear in the regulator.

DID YOU KNOW - the Facts about 5 Speeds? -

A stick shift car, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS lasts longer than an automatic transmission  car. A manual shift vehicle will always outlast an automatic transmission car in overall “car life” .  Much longer.

Why? In a manual shift car, there’s WAY less wear and tear on the engine. Much less wear and tear. It’s a big point, generally known only to observant “car people”. Reason is - The engine doesn’t have to push all that huge mass of interlocking gears, bands, valves etc up and down the shift cycle all the time, every time it stops or starts.. Thus, the vehicle lasts much longer. Over the years we’ve had car lots and we’ve   see 10’s of thousands of  wholesale used trucks and cars. Oceans of vehicles. The stick shift vehicles ALWAYS seem to outlast the automatics significantly . Interesting, huh?

In fact, we say here, that manual trans vehicles usually go or last  20-30% further - than automatic trans cars. By that calculus, a manual shift car with 100K mile on it for eample ,  is similar and comparable in engine health and life expectancy to  an 80K miles automatic car because the engine in the 5 speed car will be approx 20% fresher and less stressed. Cool huh?

Better gas mileage too.  And, additionally ,way less expensive to fix if something ever goes wrong. I’ve always loved stick shifts.

CARFAX HISTORY : The car is listed as 1 owner here by Carfax. And it was a one owner for 16 years till this year. Technically it is 2 owner because another party (our customer ) bought , inspected and tagged it earlier this year – and then 6 minths later decided they wanted a little 4 clyinder gas sipper for ultra gas economy for all the long distance driving they were suddenly going to be doing with an unexpected  work change . We’ve had it since then.

I’ve driven Jeeps a lot and they are durable, durable, durable.   If I dare say so, this one should be pretty affordable for an ultra strong , relatively fuel efficient, smaller ,last forever SUV.

Considering that even the cheapest 4x4’s these days are all $22-24,000++ and way more new , this one now should be affordable, at only a fraction of that.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions at all. I can easily be reached at 410-562 -8317. I can answer e-mail but you’ll get much more comprehensive information and more quickly if you call.

You can fly into BWI (Baltimore) (cheap flights) and drive this Jeep anywhere in the country.

Or call for a quote on shipping.

Thanks for your interest and Best of Luck with the  bidding. Jim. 410 562 8317
