Up for auction is a 2005 Lotus Elise, this car has 54k miles and will carry a salvage title. We purchased this vehicle from an insurance company around Chicago IL. It has light freshwater damage. Doesn't appear any water was inside the car, but these have simple interiors, it could have possibly been in the floorboard area. We have tried starting the car, it turns over and sounds fine, but it is not getting spark. Needs work on a relay, or a fuse, or possibly the ECU. We sell a lot of these cars wrecked, but rarely ever work on the mechanical aspect. These cars are designed to be fairly simple track cars, not a lot to them. We pulled the spark plugs and turned the motor over when the car came in. No water was in the engine. The ECU sits in the rear of the car, there is a chance it could have gotten wet, no obvious signs though.
This is a light damaged water car, it wasn't completely submerged. All the electronics in the interior work, it could be an ECU, it could be as simple as the anti theft not disarming. Either way we have priced it low enough, you can repair it and still save a lot of money compared to buying a used one ready to go. If you're looking for a track car, this would be an excellent candidate, why spend $30,000 plus on a car to take to the track. Again- this is not the typical water damaged car with corroding wires etc. All of the wiring in this car looks good. This was fresh water flood in and out, not sure how deep. We have repaired hundreds of water cars over the last ten years similar to this one and once they were repaired and repaired right, they operate like any other car.
