1983 Lotus Esprit Turbo Special Edition #45

Extremely limited and Rare 1983 Lotus Esprit Turbo Special Edition-Also knowns as the Silver Edition or the Investor's Edition! Production of these vehicles was to re-ignite the Lotus brand in the United States and save the dealership relationships for selling Lotus exotics. The company had nearly failed and a plan was conceived to revive the automaker with 50 "Investor-Gift vehicles" for investing in the company. As an investor, you needed a sizeable amount of cash and provable income. You would be taking a small stake in the company as well and promised healthy "double your income" returns along with your own custom Special Edition Turbo Esprit. These Esprit Turbos were ordered in various colors other than the base silver.

The cars were numbered 00-49, but were not delivered in perfect numerical order. The cars #47, #48, and #49 were sold at retail to validate the price before distributing the other 47 to investors. These units retailed for around $65,000! The options list included:

Removable tinted glass roof panel, with cover for stowage behind the engine (a feature not available on standard production Turbos until 1985); individually blueprinted and optimized engine; individually tested and matched suspension ride control units; air conditioning; comprehensive security system; hallmarked English silver plaque on the steering wheel, personally engraved for the driver; exclusive two-tone Silver/Chrysler Steel Gray color scheme, with red pinstripe, and silver/gray Connolly Leather interior with red stitching; and upgraded Blaupunkt stereo and speakers. Again-the colors used was completely up to the owner/investors.

Incredibly fun car to drive, these vehicles have plenty of power and little to no turbo lag because of the extreme quality in these individually hand-built engines. Each vehicle has dyno-sheet details for each engine. We currently have tremendous documentation on this vehicle including the heritage certificate detailing the vehicle.
