Porsche calls it, "The sportiest of all Panamera models." That claim seems odd given the Turbo's spot at the top of the horsepower and image list, but once you've driven the GTS, Porsche's pronouncement makes sense. What differentiates the GTS? Porsche started by upping the horsepower of the S from 400 to 430 for the GTS, taking torque from 369 lb.-ft. to 384, with a huge well of it between 2500 and 5800 rpm. Much of that added power comes from a specific cam design and improved breathing on both intake and exhaust. The latter has a snappier note, which can be made even more via the push of a button. Match this engine to Porsche's all-wheel-drive chassis and the PDK gearbox and you'll see 60 mph in 4 3 seconds and a top speed of 179. That knocks a half second of the normal Panamera S, and puts the GTS just 0 3 sec off of the Turbo, which is 10 mph faster on the top end. With the added horsepower come suspension changes, beginning with a 10-mm lowering. Shocks on the Porsche Active Suspension Management system have been firmed, and the rear track has been increased by 10 mm. Those are just a few of the changes, but as one Porsche engineer explained, when the suspension is on its normal setting, the GTS is actually firmer that the Turbo. In Sport Plus, the cars are very similar. To go with this sportier approach, Porsche fits the GTS with the Turbo's braking system. Even with all this discussion about the GTS being flatter and firmer, it does not hand back a rough ride. Porsche adds the Sport Design front to the GTS, which looks as though it is properly gulping the air needed to develop its 430 bhp, not sipping the air too delicately as some Panameras appear to do. Detailing includes high-gloss black detailing and the Turbo's bi-xenon headlamps. Out back are special exhaust pipes for that added snap, plus the Turbo's 4-piece articulated spoiler. Inside, the GTS has 18-way sports seats that beg the question: "How many ways can you adjust a seat?" Leather or Alcantara is found on most every surface that's not glass or metal. A nice place to be.but that's true of all Panameras.
