1995 North American Specification (NAS) Land Rover Defender 90
Black/Black NAS D90, one of only 1190 Soft Tops made in 1995 for the US market - '95 being the lowest production run of the three years (94,95, and 97) NAS D90s - and the Black Defenders seem to be the toughest color to find.
Exterior
Given the age and mileage of this Defender, I’ll be the first to admit the vehicle is NOT perfect. With just over 200K miles on the odometer one would assume its seen some wear and tear over the years. The paint is somewhat faded over the entire body but a decent paint correction guy might be able to breathe life back into it. The hood and upper portion of the front fenders have faded beyond the clear coat. The body also has some dings and dents here and there. In an effort to disclose these imperfections, I’ve made a quick list of the damages below:
Exterior Damages:
Passenger’s Side Door- Dent w/paint damage, 2in
Passenger’s Side Door- Scratch Heavy, 3in
Passenger’s Side Door- Scratch Light, 1in
Right Rear Fender- Dent w/paint damage, 5in
Windshield- Star in Glass, 1in
Windshield- Pitted
Left Rear Fender- Ding w/paint damage, <1in
Driver’s Side Door- Ding, <1in
Interior
The interior of this Defender 90 is in decent condition overall. The first thing you’ll notice are the tears in the driver’s side seat cushion. The door panels and windows are in excellent condition and function properly. All Switches, knobs and gauges function properly including AC controls (AC works great BTW). There are no signs of smoke or other foul odors. The floor boards look good but the driver’s side shows some signs of wear. Also, the radio was removed from the center console. Overall the interior is not a bad place to be.
Mechanical
This Defender 90 was purchase brand new off the showroom floor in 1995. This is a one-owner vehicle with a clean title. At just over 200K miles and counting this D-90 has proven its worth as a dependable and durable workhorse. In terms of mechanical condition everything remains stock expect for the ARB bumper and Warn Winch. The transmission shifts smoothly with the exception of 2nd gear (small noise when 2nd is engaged). The clutch pedal is firm and operates with precision when needed. Steering is spot on and the vehicle tracks nicely on all types of roads. Tires are brand new including alignment and balance. Brakes operate well with no signs of pulling under braking. The driveshaft has a small “whine” when traveling at normal speeds under “low-load” situations. 4x4 transfer case hi & low all seem to work well. A fresh starter motor was just installed about 200 miles ago, battery is also in excellent condition. Underneath this D-90 you’ll notice how dry everything is with no signs of major leaks or drips.
In closing, this is a wonderful Defender 90 from someone looking for a dependable workhorse or future project car. Coming from an enthusiast, I’d love to see this D-90 end up in the hands of another Land Rover purist. If you have additional questions or concerns please let me know.
