History

The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It was initially based on the second generation North American Ford Falcon, a compact car. Introduced early on April 17, 1964, dubbed as a "1964 1/2 " model by Mustang fans, the 1965 Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model A. The model is Ford's third oldest nameplate in production and has undergone several transformations to its current fifth generation.

The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobiles, sports car-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks, and gave rise to competitors such as GM's Chevrolet Camaro, AMC's Javelin, and Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracudas and Dodge Challengers.

This stunning 1969 Mustang Mach 1 went through a full restoration in 2008. It is a true R Code 428 CJ car with just over 2,000 miles since the restoration was completed. No expense was spared on this restoration! It has been garage kept since being completed. It originally came from the factory as a custom purple color but is now red.  She runs and drives as good as she looks.

This car was originally painted Purple, as a part of the “Rainbow of Colors” Mustang sales promotion that ran between 1968 and 1969 in the western United States. It allowed new Mustang owners to order a car in one of several special factory colors with wild names. The promotion was heavily advertised in the Los Angeles, San Jose, Honolulu, Salt Lake City areas from February through June of 1968 but its colors and options continued well into 1969.

At the bottom of the Marti report you will notice a “Purple, Ford Special Paint Code WT9106”. Some of the original newspaper ads for the Rainbow Sale indicated a color called Powerful Purple or Flower Orchid. Marti Report, spare key, photographs, receipts and manuals for the restoration are included in the sale.
