OVERVIEW
I have recently purchased a collection of cars from an AACA Senior Member, and I am excited to share them with my Worldwide clientele!
This stunning 1957 Volkswagen Beetle is the 2011 AACA National 1st Prize Champion, and due to the owners health, it was the last time the car was shown formally.
It is my hope that the new owner will continue to give the car the care and reverence it is due, and will allow to enter the 2015 event so that it might take the championship all over again!
Please take a moment to read the detailed listing, look over the 100 extra-large detailed photos, and then call me to make it yours before someone else does it first!
THIS VEHICLE HAS A CLEAN AND CLEAR FLORIDA TITLE IN OUR POSSESSION, AND IS NOT A CONSIGNMENT VEHICLE.
DESCRIPTION
This is one of the nicest VW Beetles I have ever had the pleasure of owning, and I have had a bunch of them! No matter how radical a custom build is, or how overly restored a car might be, the originality that someone has bothered to maintain for over 57 years is something that can’t be bought regardless of your checkbook balance.
This machine is the perfect blend of originality and careful refurbishment that allowed it to be crowned the 2011 AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) National 1st Prize winner!
The finish on the car is simply beautiful. The L378 Prairie Beige exterior is correct to what the car was born with, according to the VW AutoMusem Certification that comes with it.
The paint is not original, but great pains were taken to make sure it was the correct color, application, and finish out that the vehicle should have when it was refinished in 2009.
It is still glossy and clean throughout, and although it has a handful or so miniscule marks from being driven and enjoyed the past five years, it still shows to be “show car ready” from every angle. Imagine how great it will look after you get it home and have it detailed? You are seeing it just the way I got it, sans a quick wipe down with Turtle Wax Quick-shine and a cloth. A professional detail and buff would make this car ready to claim its AACA Championship once again.
Front and rear bumpers on the car are in exceptional condition, and show only the faintest signs of use.
Trunk and hood pulls look excellent, and function as they should.
Rear vent trim is in excellent condition.
Window trim bright work is original to the car, and shows above average.
Window seals/rubber trim is in excellent condition, with no dry rot or issues.
Glass is in exceptional condition, and has no cracks or chips.
Side trim and running board trim is in exceptional condition, as is the rubber covering on the running boards.
Headlight rings, horn vents, and signal trim and lenses are all in excellent condition, and issue free.
A WOLFSBURG hood crest caps off the hood trim, and looks wonderful.
All emblems look fantastic on the car as well.
Wiper arms are average in condition, but were left on because they were original to the car. Easy and inexpensive to replace if you so desire.
The outside mirror shows wonderfully, and is also original to the car.
Door handles and cups are in very good condition, with a light age patina showing from normal use.
Rear fender trim is in excellent condition.
An EMPI roof rack is in very good condition, and looks great on the car.
The car rides on VW steel rims properly finished and fitted with VW center caps. They are wrapped in FIRESTONE Wide Whitewall tires size 5.60-15, and it all looks amazing on the car.
Overall, the outside of the car is worthy of being crowned the 2011 AACA National Champion, and a professional detail and clean when you get it home will make it look even nicer!
Opening the doors reveals an interior that is so nice, you would swear it was all new!
The German Square Weave carpeting looks fantastic in the car, and covers the front panel, kick panels, sides, and rear cargo area behind the back seat. It is all in excellent condition, with no stains or tears.
The headliner and surround panels are in great condition, are original to the car as well, and show only the lightest patina from normal use and age. There are no rips or seam pulls evident.
Seats are the original Red Leatherette style the car was born with, and they look magnificent from front to back, along with the door panels and rear side panels.
The rubber mat flooring is like new, with no rips or tears.
The armrests, door handles, window rollers and rear ashtrays are all in exceptional, original condition.
The dash is beautiful in its simplicity, and it houses an ashtray, functional speedometer with odometer, switches for lights and wipers, radio delete plate, and the functional and lined glove compartment.
The lights, signals, and horn all work, but the wipers do not currently function. I will look into it if I have time, and will update the listing when and if I do.
The steering wheel, shift lever, emergency brake handle, and turn signal switch are all beautifully finished in an original off-white that still looks fresh today. They all function like they should.
The speaker trim plate is chrome and stunning, but no speaker exists behind it because it was not born with a radio.
A unique 1-piece sun visor and rear view mirror glare visor are installed, and show very light original patina.
Heck, even the original driver side map light still works!
Overall, the interior of the car is just stunning, and is befitting a car of this stature.
Open the front bonnet, and you are met by a super clean lined inner storage area with full size spare tire on matching rim and center cap wheel. The whole area under the bonnet is neat, clean, and show ready right now.
Open the rear hatch, and you will see the clean and original 1.2L 30DIN ps motor that the car was born with, serial number 3330929. It is clean, original, and has been painstakingly preserved so that it is representative of that era.
The CARB tag # is 111129c23, and as you can see in the detailed engine photos, the previous owners worked hard to preserve, refurbish, and restore as much of the cars powertrain components as humanly possible.
The engine itself is impressive, as it fires up with a turn of the key and a mild bit of choke when cold. Idle is smooth and silky, and once the car warms to operating temperature, the power is seamless and smooth.
It is a joy to drive, because with smooth and sure clutch take-up working in synch with the 4-speed transmission and solid engine, the car almost becomes an extension of you while you are behind the wheel.
I have personally driven the car about 40 miles, and find it to be as solid and confidence inspiring as I am sure it was in 1957. There are no odd sounds, pulling, wander, or issues to contend with. It is almost like it was 1958 and you were shopping for a year old Beetle at the local VW store.
The Volkswagen AutoMuseum decoded and certified the car, and the information sheet is shown below. The original seal copy is included in this transaction at no additional charge.
It shows that the unique and extra options the car had at birth were as follows:
M018 LARGER REFLECTOR IN BRAKE/INDICATOR LIGHT
M020 MPH SPEEDOMETER
M067 77ah BATTERY, 6 VOLT
M089 LAMINATED WINDSCREEN
M094 LOCKABLE REAR FLAP HANDLE
M104 UPHOLSTERY – LEATHERETTE RED
M107 BUMPERS WITH GUARDS
The car is ready to go as it sits, and has been safety checked as well.
There are NO known mechanical, operational, functional, electrical, or operational issues OTHER THAN WHAT HAS BEEN DISCLOSED ABOVE that I am aware of after driving it.
In the area? Come see it. If not, fly down here for a personal showing! I am willing to bet that the first person who comes here to see the car in person will buy it.
MILEAGE ON THE ODOMETER IS BELIEVED TO BE TRUE AND CORRECT, HOWEVER IT IS BEING SOLD AS MILEAGE EXEMPT ON THE FLORIDA TITLE.
The title is in the dealerships name, and this is NOT a consignment car.
It is ready for transfer to the next owner, and is eligible for export sale as well.
If you are seriously interested in the car, and require more information, feel free to call me at (941)286-0889 for a complete phone walk-around description of the vehicle, and to answer any questions or concerns you may have about it.
I strongly encourage a personal showing of the vehicle, or an inspection by a 3rd party, as that will only serve to help me sell the car quickly. If you see the car in person, you will buy it. That simple.
