MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer yet another timeless Cadillac with a story greater than most. This museum quality 1920 Cadillac Victoria Coupe Type 59 has been continuously driven and enjoyed since new while being in well-preserved original condition.

The Victoria featured here is unusual and perhaps unique among 1920s Cadillacs, as it has been continuously enjoyed since the day it was built. It was shipped from the factory on June 10, 1920, and delivered to Claude Nolan Cadillac, of Jacksonville, Florida, where it went unsold. The car was then transferred north to George Blakeslee, a dealer in Hackensack, New Jersey, who sold it to L.K. Scudder, of Glen Cove, New York, in 1921. It was driven by the Scudder sisters until the beginning of World War II, at which point the body was removed and the chassis was put into military service as a truck.

After the war the Cadillac was acquired by William Walker, a well-known early enthusiast in upstate New York. Mr. Walker reinstalled the Victoria body on its original chassis and proceeded to extensively tour with this car for over 40 years! The engine was rebuilt at least once during this time, and safety glass was installed to suit the safety standards of the day.

Only in 1985 did Mr. Walker part with his beloved Cadillac, selling it to Maureen Jones, who brought it back to Long Island and enjoyed it until her passing in 2004. It was then acquired by Richard Hendrickson, of Bridgehampton, New York, from whom it was acquired by the most recent owner. During Mr. Hendrickson’s care, the car was featured in The Ultimate History of American Automobiles by Frederic Winkowski and Frank D. Sullivan, which was published in 2006.

This handsome Cadillac retains all of its original charm from 1920 all the way down to the paint and metal. The body paneling is original 14 gauge sheet aluminum, as it was safely preserved and stored during the war when the body was removed from the chassis. Aluminum and steel were both in very short supply during World War II and the Scudder family was very wise to perpetuate this rarely seen Cadillac’s aluminum body while still allowing the chassis to serve! The chrome also appears to be original and looks fantastic with a brilliant shine to this day. The paint is very original and shows very well to be 94 years old! The body itself is painted blue with black fenders and top. There is also a white pinstripe going all the way around the Victoria right below the window line. The paint does show its age with a bit of cracking and chipping here and there but overall, you seriously cannot ask for a better looking 94 year old paint job! Wow!

The interior of the Victoria is just as stunning as the exterior. As it is described in historical Cadillac documents; “Only those who own a Cadillac Victoria can appreciate its wide utility. Many a professional man would find himself lost without one. Busy women, with a daily round of home and social duties, find it indispensable. Its roominess is unappreciated until four are seated comfortably. A week-end trip is often necessary to convince one of its touring comfort.”

The seats, door panels and headliner are all finished in beautiful Mohair upholstery and look absolutely spectacular while being extremely comfortable. There is also an extra folding seat, stowed away under the dash that is also well upholstered and fitted with arm rests. There are no major signs of wear or tear to be found. One special feature rarely seen today that this Cadillac possesses is the tri-vent front window to allow air to pass through the cabin and keep all passengers cool while driving. The dashboard is painted black and houses the original and correct 1920 Cadillac gauges that are absolutely timeless. Even the finest detail was put into all the German silver appointments and the breathtaking wood steering wheel. Taffeta sunshades can be pulled down over the rear and rear quarter windows to give privacy and protection from the sun. There are also corner reading lights and a cigar lighter. This Cadillac is absolutely one-of-a-kind today and extremely special!

The Victoria is powered by a 314 cubic inch V8 engine with an L-shaped cylinder head. This engine is capable of producing upwards of 79 horsepower. Mated to the engine is a 3-speed selective sliding gear manual transmission with chrome nickel steel gears and shafts. The Cadillac sits upon a solid front axle and full floating rear axle with rear wheel mechanical brakes. The posture of the car is excellent upon a set of blue 12-spoke wheels with white hand-painted detail on each spoke and chrome Cadillac center caps. The wheels are wrapped in 35x5 wide white wall tires that look absolutely spectacular on the car.

The car comes with TONS of documentation and literature such as: a copy of the original Owner’s Manual that is protected by laminated sheets in a binder, two vintage plates (one New York plate, one 1920 plate), “A Guide for the Cadillac Enthusiast” by G.L Wallace of Cadillac Historical Services out of Warren, Michigan, receipts dating all the way back to February 1965, personal handwritten and typed letters to automotive companies requesting restoration parts or answers to restoration questions, newspaper clippings, old photos, a handwritten copy of “Record and Equipment of Cars” directly from the Cadillac Motor Company and a handwritten letter from the GM Heritage Center concerning the history of the Victoria being recorded in a leather bound book that is deteriorating and that the Heritage Center had to bring in an outside source to contract getting the records safely out without damaging the books. This is all ultra cool, RARELY SEEN documentation! There is also two show boards about the car and a post card with the car on it that was used by the Long Island Auto Museum in 1976!

All disputes arising out of or resulting from this sale shall be finally determined by binding arbitration in St. Louis, Missouri in accordance with the commercial rules of arbitration of the American Arbitration Association. The arbitration shall be carried out by one or more arbitrators in accordance with said rules. Any award shall be enforceable in any court of competent jurisdiction in the same manner as judgments. This agreement to arbitrate shall survive the sale of the automobile described herein. Buyer and Seller hereby agree that Missouri law shall control for all purposes under this Bill of Sale. Buyer and Seller hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction of the state and federal courts of Missouri to specifically enforce the agreement to arbitrate and to enter judgment of and enforce the award of the arbitrator. All above terms and conditions are applied to vehicle sales, whether through EBay or otherwise.

Payment Terms

Payment must be made by Cashiers Check, Money Orders or Wire Transfers payable in US Dollars. A Refundable deposit in the amount of $500.00 must be received within Twenty-Four (24) hours of the auctions close either by Master Card, Visa, Discover or PayPal (Credit Cards or PayPal for deposit only NOT for full payment). Purchaser cannot make any claims of ownership to said vehicle without payment in full. The buyer has seven (7) days from close of auction to inspect the vehicle. If an inspection or decision takes longer than seven days and you find the vehicle not to your liking, your deposit will be forfeited and the car will be relisted. Final payment must be received within ten (10) days of the auction close. The refundable deposit only applies if you or an agent inspect said vehicle in St. Louis and find it not to your liking. Documentation Fee: There will be a $195.00 fee added to each car sold. This includes title transfer, inventory tax, holding costs, vehicle preparation, storage and priority documentation delivery.

We will not be responsible for buyer’s remorse or problems found to said vehicle once they have left our property. We are just being realistic; most of the cars we deal in are vintage and by their very nature will need TLC and some degree of attention sooner or later. These are not new cars and your expectation should not be of a perfect, new car. Once full payment has been received, Seller will email or fax a copy of clear title, Bill of Sale, Buyers Guide and additional DMV forms to the Buyer to sign and return via email or fax. The fully-executed forms must be returned to the Seller prior to the shipment of said vehicle. Original paperwork will be sent to Buyer via USPS Priority Mail within ten (10) days from date of final payment.

I encourage a physical inspection strongly to avoid any misunderstandings or representations. All used vehicles should be assumed to have some degree of wear. No vehicle is perfect to everyone. Each vehicle has its strengths, styles, tendencies and shortcomings. Therefore, despite our best efforts to verify a vehicle’s mechanical condition, we are not able to warranty a manufacturer’s workmanship or previous owner’s diligence in care. It is for this reason that all vehicles are sold ”WHERE/IS, AS/IS”. We have described the above mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability. However, with all classic and exotic vehicles, the condition is subjective. Please be advised that no oral or written statements concerning any vehicle constitutes a representation or warranty of the condition of the said vehicle.

INDUSTRY UNIQUE RETURN POLICY: If for any reason you receive your vehicle and have buyer’s remorse, are not happy with the vehicle or just don’t want it for any reason we will purchase the car back from you. We must be notified in writing of your decision to return the vehicle within seven (7) days of your receipt of said vehicle. The vehicle may not have more than 75 additional miles on the odometer from the time it left our possession and be returned in the same condition that it left. You WILL be responsible for a restocking fee that will equal 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, no exceptions. You will also be responsible for shipping the vehicle back to our shop at your expense.
