For 7 years and 70,000 miles my wife and I drove this truck. I bought it in April 2007 on Ebay and never had a single regret. Still like it a lot. Personally, I think this generation of BMWs from the late 90’s-early 00’s was the best, and I owned earlier and later Bimmers as well. Alas, the BMW is no longer the "ultimate driving machine" for my taste, so this E53 will be the last in my household, for some time at least.

The truck was always well-maintained. I have all the service records from BMW dealers and a local auto shop specializing in European cars. (You can see a picture of them)

  1. A lot of these records are for oil changes - I always follow a simple rule with all my cars - twice a year, on average every 5-7K miles.
  2. Most of the rest is  for wear and tear - brakes/rotors, various filters, sensors, gaskets/hoses, spark plugs, suspension pieces, battery, etc.
  3. I only had a couple of unexpected repairs - alternator has been replaced with a new (not rebuilt) Bosch OEM unit and the instrument cluster lost some of its pixels so it had to be swapped.
  4. The good thing is that no major work on the engine or transmission was ever needed. My E53 is still an old-school, naturally aspirated, high-revving BMW gem, paired with a silky-smooth tranny.

My last visit to a BMW shop was just a month ago (oil change). I've included a picture of their condition report - all good except for the side thrust rod bushings and perhaps wheel alignment. The tires have 20K miles on them and they still have a lot of thread left. Also the A/C unit was getting weaker over the summer and now it mostly blows outside air.  Otherwise, the car is SOLID. Driving it, you still feel like you are in a bank vault - unlike some cheaper cars which by this age start rattling like a rolling trash can.

Now the hard part - exterior dents. The one on the right rear quarter (pic included), below the tail lamp is
from a minor fender-bender on a parking lot. I had it for some time and never paid too much attention to it - its not easily noticeable and the paint wasn't damaged at all.  The left side dents came more recently. Apparently I store too much junk in my garage, so some odd piece dented the side of my car as I was entering.  I've figured instead of fixing all this for $1000-$1500, I will just sell the car cheaper in its current condition (all original paint, perfectly drivable) and let YOU decide whether you can live with these dents or not. If the car goes to a young driver - and why not – it’s cool, safe and cheap - then you definitely won't need to worry about fixing these dents right away :)

And to make you feel better about the dents, I will also include a set of BMW OEM 17" wheels with winter tires (on one of the pictures). Even on all-season rubber this truck is pretty good in a snow. Winter tires just make it unstoppable....

You can also connect your iPhone/iPod (old-style connector) to listen to your favorite tunes. The cable was professionally installed and goes to the CD-changer location in the trunk. It is possible to have USB port as well, but you'd need to route another cable for that.

This is a NO RESERVE auction which I start at a low $3000. The car's original MSRP was almost $47K (original sticker included with all the books). This is $61K in today's money, so getting it for a small fraction is pretty good. The highest bidder wins. The only reason I might stop the auction earlier is if I sell the car locally.

E-mail me for a Carfax report.

Happy bidding!
