Simply put, this 1972 Road Runner is a no-stories, low mileage, investment grade B-body, and presents today as a stunning lesson in Mopar technology and assembly techniques from over 40 years ago. It starts with the original sheetmetal that recently was recently recovered with a correct B5 Bright Blue Metallic paint by the talented crew at Hayes Motor Car in Kenmore, New York. And when you step up close to that glossy blue, you'll find clean gaps that are devoid of any sloppy patches or second-rate finishing work. It all boils down to one unique, fully detailed pavement pounder that inspires comments and elicits stares under our showroom lights.

Every bit of this Mopar's bright ornamentation is extremely clean and looks excellent against Plymouth's glossy Blue Metallic paint. 1971 brought a new "fuselage" body design that was even more perfected in 1972 to create a very aggressive looking Road Runner. At the front of the car, a fully restored grille hangs an off-set "Road Runner" script between four halogen headlamps, a good looking chrome bumper and crystal clear parking lights. Behind that grille, a correct air grabber hood centers an otherwise wind-cheating scoop between two correct pins, loud "400" decals and wipers. Above that hood, like-new glass rides between pristine stainless trim, new chrome drip rails, a chrome driver's mirror, and traditional Chrysler door handles. And at the back of the car, a second chrome bumper centers crystal clear reverse lamps below an offset pristine road runner decal, factory fresh tail lights, and spotless stainless exhaust tips.

Make good use of the aforementioned hood pins and you'll find the original numbers matching 400 cubic inch Chrysler block that, thanks to a complete rebuild, looks as if just rolled off the showroom floor. Introduced as a means to standardize the bore of all Ma Mopar's V8s, this coupe's mill was designed to offer a nice mix of performance and streetability in an era of ever-increasing regulation. Oxygen whips through the car's 'Air Grabber' hood to a Hemi Orange cleaner that feeds a big Holley carburetor and beefy Weiand intake. At the sides of the blue cap distributor, the stock heads hang chrome valve covers and what appear to be the factory exhaust manifolds. Cooling is supplied by a correct Chrysler radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses, an aluminum water pump and simple squeeze clamps to send water past fresh V-belts, rebuilt ancillaries and a reproduction Mopar battery. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its fresh decals and Blue fenders all the way to its old school fluid reservoir and familiar horn. And functionally, a quick turn of the car's ignition results in a rumbling, high-performance idle, hot or cold.

Under this impressive Mopar you'll find a fully sorted chassis that's road worthy and ready for you to drive it home. At the center of over-restored floors, the original A833 4-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear axle that houses highway ready 3.23 gears. Holding that stellar drivetrain in place is the standard Mopar setup of Torsion bar front suspension and leaf spring rear. Exhaust floats from the aforementioned manifolds to a true dual exhaust, which is outfitted with correct chambered mufflers. Power flows from attractive Rallye wheels to Firehawk Indy 500 Tires. Behind those tires, stopping power comes courtesy of 4-wheel manual drum brakes.

Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience, it seems old school American muscle cars only needed black vinyl, a bit of stainless trim and essential instrumentation to strike a perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. And when you open this Road Runner's solid doors, you'll find a cockpit that still houses the original black vinyl interior. It was obviously stored indoors as there is no UV damage to the black vinyl, leading many eyes to confuse it for a restoration. At the center of the car's floors, firm front bucket and rear bench seats have been stuffed with fresh padding and topped with correct Plymouth-embossed covers. At the sides of those seats, weather-free door panels hang chrome-trimmed armrests under bright stainless trim and correct black frames. At the bottom of those door panels, like-new carpet is protected by heavy duty floor mats. On top of that carpet, a wood-trimmed console anchors a pistol grip shifter between bright courtesy lamps. And opposite that console, a tight black headliner is stretched around fresh roof bows and a fully functional dome light. The car's expertly restored dash hangs factory gauges beside the original AM/FM radio player that's complete with Chrysler's super cool thumb-wheel knobs that send tunes to the original speakers. In front of the driver, a three spoke black steering wheel spins a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the cockpit, the car's fully restored trunk is authentic all the way down to its full-size spare tire, refurbished jack and centered decklid decal.

Included in the sale of this gorgeous '72 Road Runner is an original build sheet, original owner's manual, and vintage sales brochure.
