GM recalls Chevy Impala, Cadillac XTS for braking problem
Sun, 21 Sep 2014Back in April, General Motors launched an investigation into braking issues affecting the 2014 Chevy Impala. Now there's a recall of both the Impala and the Cadillac XTS with which it shares its Epsilon II platform.
The issue apparently revolves around the electronic parking brake, which may not properly disengage. As a result, the rear brake pads could rub the rotor even while the vehicle is in motion, causing "significant heat, smoke and sparks." The earlier investigation had been launched following a complaint regarding the forward collision avoidance system, which is now either appears to have been unrelated or possibly a symptom of this larger issue.
The recall affects 2013-15 XTS models manufactured between February 14, 2012, and August 22, 2014, as well as 2014-15 Impalas manufactured between January 15, 2013, and August 22, 2014. The total number of affected vehicles reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration comes to precisely 132,921 units, while The Detroit News reports a higher total of 205,000 units - the difference potentially coming down to the scope within the US and more broadly across North America. Dealers will contact owners to update the software in order to fix the problem.
Cadillac caught testing the upcoming XT3 SUV again
Mon, Feb 20 2017Days ago, the Cadillac XT3 was caught covered in more black plastic bags than an average Home Depot can hold. Now, more photos have surfaced of the compact crossover doing cold weather testing, still wearing binliner camo. There are still details that can be detected from underneath all the make-up, as the car wears a familiar Cadillac grille and edgy LED headlights. The rear shots do show tail lights fashioned into the camouflage, but those might be there just to throw everybody off: the C-pillars have lights way up from the usual spots, and that might be the location for the actual tail lights, giving the car characteristically narrow Cadillac style lighting in the rear. To match the German competition in this segment, it is likely that the XT3 will be powered by four-cylinder turbocharged engines, and the intercooler under the front bumper can be a confirmation of this. 2014 Cadillac CTS images leak from somewhere
Sun, 24 Mar 2013The redesigned 2014 Cadillac CTS will be unveiled this Tuesday on the eve of the New York Auto Show, but as often happens, some images of the car have leaked onto the web a few days early. Previously, the only information we had on the 2014 CTS concerned the all-new twin-turbo V6 engine that will be found underhood, rated at 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
While none show the new car in its entirety, the images do show much of the front end, particularly the headlights that feature vertical bars of LEDs that start down low as foglights and continue up to the top of the front fenders. They're similar to the lighting design first shown on the XTS and ATS, except the lower portions are much taller.
There are also views of the rear end and one of the taillights, as well as an interior shot of the front passenger door. The latter image has us most intrigued, as it shows some very high end materials being used in the new CTS interior. The low-gloss wood trim, in particular, looks very premium.
