Cadillac mulling CTS Coupe successor after all

The 2014 Cadillac CTS made a big splash last week at the New York Auto Show, but now that we've seen the sedan, we can start to wonder about whether coupe and wagon versions are in the cards. According to Edmunds, Cadillac is at least considering bringing back the CTS Coupe for a second generation, which seems like an even better chance since the brand's global marketing director, Jim Vurpillat, was quoted as saying that the car was the top-selling luxury coupe in the industry.
Of course, this goes against reports we heard last year that Caddy's coupe and wagon would live on just not under the CTS name, but the interview with Vurpillat has us hopeful for a next-generation CTS Coupe. If it does come to fruition, we would expect the new two-door to have a largely unique exterior design like the current CTS Coupe, to echo that of intended rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and even the high-dollar BMW 6 Series.

2017 Cadillac XT5 will debut in Dubai

Cadillac confirmed the 2017 XT5 crossover – the replacement for the SRX – will officially debut at the Dubai Motor Show in November. The XT5 will then make its first North American appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show later that month. The current SRX is a hugely important vehicle for Cadillac – it's still the company's best-selling product worldwide. But it's pretty old now, having launched in 2009 as a 2010 model. The XT5 will bolster all of the good things about the SRX while finally bringing that product up to date. Above, you can see a spy shot of what looks to be the new XT5, caught during a photo shoot. "The XT5 will be the cornerstone of a series of crossovers bearing the 'XT' designation," Cadillac said in a statement. We've long known that Cadillac wants to add a CUV between the XT5 and its flagship Escalade. But we think there's also room for something smaller – a proper fighter to the expanding entry-level luxury crossover segment that includes the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, upcoming Infiniti QX30, and more. The biggest gas-guzzlers of 2024: 'The Meanest List' is the opposite of greenest cars

In some circles — especially some automotive circles — bigger is better. This explains the Hummer, for example. In its so-called “Meanest List” of a dozen models, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) makes no apologies for berating “the worst-performing mass market automobiles” sold in 2024 in the U.S. The most diminutive car on the list is a Chevy Corvette Z06. At the top of this particular heap is the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, a gas-powered SUV that the environmental agency says was “the worst-performing vehicle of the more than 1,200 models assessed by Greener Cars and has an annual fuel cost over $4,000.” Not to mention its MSRP of around $184,000. Lonely at the middle of the list is the sole electric, the GMC Hummer EV, which weighs in at 9,000 pounds.
