1959 Cadillac Eldorado Seville Fully Restored on 2040-cars
South Eastern, ACT, Australia
Offered for sale is my 59 Cadillac Eldorado that has undergone the most meticulous restoration with over 3500 hours of painstaking attention to detail. It is a numbers matching car with all of the power options that Eldorado's were known for including power windows, power door locks, power trunk release and pull down, power vent windows, 6 way seat, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, power antenna, autronic eye, fog lights, Cadillac Q engine with tri power carbs, fully rebuilt air ride suspension. Every single part has been carefully cleaned and re-plated, re-upholstered, chromed, rebuilt, painted or polished to perfection. Nothing has been overlooked down to the smallest part that you cannot even see and I have tried to restore the car back to be totally original with a number of minor enhancements that cannot be detected unless I pointed them out. The car is currently registered, drives great and is a real head turner. I have receipts for over $230K so this gives you some idea of the extent of this incredible restoration. I have accumulated quite a collection of manuals, parts books, brochures, cd's etc, and a 5 layer car cover which will go with the car. If you are looking for the best, then you will not be disappointed. I have been asked several times about the materials used in the restoration and the differences that are unique to Eldo's. The interior leather is the correct Cardiff and Florentine grain metallic blue with the correct seat buttons. Gorgeous. The padded vinyl roof is the correct colour and grain Vicodec material as fitted from the factory. The headliner is the correct pattern vinyl in light blue with matching sun visors. The trunk area has the correct colour lining material for the padded floor mat as well as the sides and spare wheel cover. It even have the proper thatched material for the rear parcel shelf. That is a nice finishing touch. There are a few other Eldorado items to mention that are unique to Eldo's like the "lightning bolt" door lock knobs only for power door locks, rear trunk lip bar with the "Eldorado" script, 3 row rear grille, reversing light chrome "V"s, as well as the unique polished stainless side trim, and the Eldo only door trims that really look classy with the brushed stainless trim panels. These door trims have 3 courtesy lights in them, the rear one on the arm rest is red while the other 2 are the round white type and with the rear quarter panel lights, roof lights and dash light give 11 lights when the door is opened. It also has a 45 amp generator to keep the batter charged! Even the front seat is unique to Eldo's with chrome trim on the back and sides of the seat, along with map pockets and rear passenger knee pads. Other Eldo unique parts are the power brake pedal stainless trim and script, along with the stainless trim on the park brake pedal and the accelerator pedal. This is build number 216 out of a low total of 975 and first delivered to Fort Smith, Arkansas. I have the full build sheet details from Cadillac archives which lists every option that the car was built with and is very interesting. I can be contacted on +61 411 108 433 or email tpseddon@bigpond.net.au for any further information. Can assist with shipping if required. Well worth a look if you are serious and want the best. Vehicle is advertised elsewhere and may be withdrawn if sold prior to auction end. |

2016 Cadillac ATS-V First Drive [w/video]
Sun, Apr 26 2015If you get hot and bothered for hot-rodded sedans and coupes, you probably know that Germans have long dominated that cutthroat scene. For years, the Audi RS/BMW M/Mercedes-AMG triumvirate has ruled the microcosm of grunty, mid-level luxury cars. But a funny thing happened when Cadillac's first V car hit the market in 2004. Since the CTS-V crashed the high horsepower party, German tuning houses started thinking less about the "Daddy's Caddy" stereotypes and more about the next imminent threat – in this case, the inevitable high-horsepower spinoff of the smaller, nimbler Cadillac ATS. The standard ATS' defense against the German triad hasn't been triumphant so far (GM's Michigan plant was idled for three weeks in 2014 due to excess inventory), but the souped-up 2016 Cadillac ATS-V presents a fresh bid to put the Teutonic competition on alert. The ATS-V's flared bodywork and quad exhaust pipes offer bits of visual shock and awe, but significant hardware upgrades back up the go-fast looks. Front and center is a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V6 with reworked internals including a charge-air cooler, titanium connecting rods, and titanium-aluminide turbines. The new engine produces 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, up a staggering 262 hp and 173 lb-ft compared to a base, four-cylinder ATS. Those output figures eclipse the BMW M3/M4 (425 hp, 406 lb-ft) and Audi RS5 (450 hp, 317 lb-ft), but lag slightly behind the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG C63 (476 hp, 479 lb-ft), and more so the C63 S (503 hp, 516 lb-ft). The chassis benefits from several structural braces, most notably a shear panel intended to boost front-end stiffness. Extra poundage from the add-ons are minimized through lighter-weight materials – in the case of the shear panel, stamped aluminum. Cadillac says though it intended to make the ATS the quickest car in its segment (stated 0-60 mph times between 3.8 and 3.9 second virtually match the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63 S' 3.9 figure), the development team says they also focused on subjective qualities like turn-in quickness and steering response. As such, toe links have been replaced with ball joints, mounts have been retuned, and reworked magnetic damping offer greater responsiveness. Six suspension bushings have been stiffened and ten have been completely redesigned, and the Performance Traction Management system that tames beasts like the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 also helps lay down power in the ATS-V.
Combine a self-driving car with V2V, and here's what happens
Sat, Dec 12 2015Transportation engineers have started laying the groundwork for a traffic world in which cars communicate with other cars and infrastructure like bridges and traffic lights. How about an environment in which cars talk to pretty much everything and everyone? In a preview of its offerings at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, Delphi Automotive will deploy just such a concept. Engineers have designed a system that communicates with traffic signals, street signs, pedestrians, cyclists, even to fry pits and parking garages along a driver's route. To date, engineers and researchers across the auto industry have focused on the technical and safety-oriented foundation of future vehicle-to-vehicle communications, which could help cars share information about everything from traffic tie-ups to upcoming road hazards. Beyond those building blocks, many have projected that V2V could also include more consumer-focused features. Delphi's system, dubbed V2Everything, might be the first that combines those sorts of features in a tangible package. At CES in Las Vegas, scheduled to begin the first week of January, company officials say they'll demonstrate in real-world conditions how V2V technology can be used in an autonomous vehicle to provide a range of critical safety information and leisure and convenience options for riders. The first V2V technology installed on a production car is slated to appear on the 2017 Cadillac CTS. "We imagine a world with zero traffic accidents," said Jeff Owens, Delphi's chief technology officer. "To get there, we will need a convergence of active safety, sensor fusion, connectivity platforms and advanced software." Such software might allow a vehicle to start searching for and reserving parking spots at a programmed destination long before arriving. It could allow riders to place their McDonald's drive-through order from the road and have the food ready for pickup along the route. For the drive itself, the Delphi-equipped car can stay updated on the status of traffic lights around Las Vegas, and can anticipate yellow and red lights. Using smart-phone technology, the car can detect pedestrians and cyclists that may otherwise be hard to see. It can send messages to friends or family to notify them of a driver's location. Some of those features have been available on third-party apps or individually developed by automakers. But this system marries them together in a single system that is tailored for use in self-driving cars.
Cadillac tipped to call flagship something other than LTS
Sun, 21 Sep 2014Cadillac wouldn't be Cadillac without large sedans in its lineup, and while the XTS has had to hold down that end of the fort all on its own, it won't have to for too long. That's because the luxury brand in the General Motors portfolio is preparing to roll out its new LTS, stylistically previewed by the Elmiraj concept pictured above. Only now, the latest thinking is that the upcoming flagship model may not be called LTS at all.
As Automotive News points out, Cadillac's naming scheme is all over the place at the moment. The ATS slotting below the CTS makes sense (alphabetically), but where do the ELR, SRX and especially the Escalade fit into that naming hierarchy? And how would LTS - as the project has been known until now - sit above the XTS?
Fortunately, Cadillac may be on the case, as two of the division's most recent senior appointments seem keen to rationalize the naming scheme. One is Uwe Ellinghaus, who joined Cadillac as chief marketing officer late last year. Speaking of the brand's nomenclature last spring, Ellinghaus was quoted as saying, "We are aware that this is currently a weakness of the Cadillac brand." And his new boss is bound to agree.
