1981 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Sedan with 107,480 miles. This is a well-cared for example that has always been garaged and properly maintained. If you know Cadillacs, you know that this was the final year for the "good" Cadillac engine. This ’81 Fleetwood has the 6.0 litre/368 cubic inch V8-6-4 big block cast iron fuel injected Cadillac engine based on the same architecture as the 425.

This Fleetwood is an original paint car in a beautiful color called Waxberry Yellow. As these Cadillacs become more and more rare, this is one of the nicest 1981 Fleetwoods still in existence and given the mileage; it is also an affordable way to obtain a very nice unmolested example.

Below is a full list of the options and many standard features.

·         Leather seating area

·         Rear Window Defogger with heated outside mirrors

·         Illuminated Visor Vanity Mirrors –driver and passenger

·         Electronic Level Control

·         Wire Wheel Discs with locks and key

·         Twilight Sentinel

·         AM/FM Stereo with 8-track player and power antenna

·         Integrated Garage Door opener

·         Cruise Control

·         Electronic Climate Control

·         Tilt-Telescoping Steering Wheel

·         6-way power seats for passenger and driver with passenger recliner

·         Power trunk release and pull down

·         Carpeted Floor Mats – front and rear

·         Trunk Mat

Now here is where it gets even better, what is not seen on the surface is the carry over of the heavy duty hardware from the 70s such as the TH400 transmission that was indestructible along with the big block engine - these cars would last forever.

The powerful and high torque 6.0 accelerates to near modern expectations and fuel economy is 18-19 miles per gallon on the highway.  The car drives straight and shifts smoothly. The correct Coker tires have approximately 5,000 miles. The air conditioning works as new as expected on all settings and speeds on a car of this caliber. The hard to replace bumper extensions (fillers) that always crack have been replaced and have the correct matching color and pin striping. The cornering light lenses are crystal clear, and many this age typically show fogging. The rear leveling suspension works perfect. The Electroluminescent Opera Lamps work great. The plastic chrome on the dash is like new – bright and clear like it should be. The leather looks great and it still supple, and not dried out. All weather stripping is mint, pliable and good as new. This car has been kept right, then some. The vinyl top is excellent – you can even see the sheen of the vinyl is like new and this is without any products to add a sheen. There is no sun fade or heat damage to take away from this car. It even has its original factory floor mats with Cadillac crests which would be impossible to replicate given the rare one year only color of this car. Everything works like it did when in 1981 with the exception of the 8 Track player and the left LED digit on the radio does not illuminate.  These are easy to fix either by swapping out the radio, and/or having these corrected on the original radio.

The car is equipped with the 8-6-4 modulated displacement feature that works as originally intended and designed, and alternates cylinders based upon demand.  Drivability is excellent!

The car was fully serviced (November/December, 2013) by a certified Cadillac Master Technician locally and the following was performed:

·         Full oil and filter service – AC Delco oil filter

·         Full reseal of upper and lower engine – including valve cover gaskets and rear main oil pan seal.

·         Full reseal of Rear Differential – Fluid change

·         Full reseal of Transmission Pan and replacement of gasket

·         Adjustment of belts to ensure they are quiet.

·         Replacement of all filters, including air and fuel.

·         Check of battery connections and terminals, including cables.

·         Replacement of power antenna with GM replacement part.  Antenna goes up and down as it should when you turn the radio on.

·         Service / cleaning of the cylinder valve actuator solenoids to ensure correct operation.

·         Inspection of all hoses and connections within the engine compartment to ensure perfect operation.

As a result of the above, the car starts, runs, and drives great!  There are absolutely no leaks of any kind on my garage floor, something I like!

It is obvious this car was truly cherished throughout its life.

Ok, you get the picture this car is near perfect....... Well, not really....

As with any car, there are flaws... There are always flaws....! Not many to pick on here, but there are some chips on lower portions of the car from gravel that kicked up on the paint. They’ve been touched up by the prior owner.  There is minor rust on a couple of the doors at the weep holes which can only be seen if you crawl down to look under the door – I’ve been told by those from snowy climates that this is considered “no rust”, especially considering its age. Finally, the headliner has begun to bubble in the center – as I’m into originality, I’ve left it as is, but a new owner may wish to replace it.  If you prefer to replace it, I have the source for the correct original material, and can assist you with finding it and obtaining it quickly.   The driver’s side seatbelt retracts very slowly, not fast, but it does work, just a bit slow!

Despite the above, you will probably find this car 100% acceptable the way it is and it is still is better than most any 1981 Cadillac you will ever see!

I have many of the original documents and receipts that provide the history of this Fleetwood from its purchase on 17 July 1981 through today.

This Cadillac will make a great addition to any collection and needs to go to great home with someone who will continue to preserve it as it has been throughout its life. Please feel free to email me so we discuss the details further. Inspections are welcomed prior to the sale. I can also provide more photos of any specific area of the car if you need more.

The car is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and I can facilitate shipping as may be necessary, and/or if it is a local area sale, the car can definitely be driven anywhere.  If this car goes to Germany, Scandinavia or other locales in Europe, I am happy to help facilitate the shipping process from the US side.

Good luck!

This is a NO RESERVE auction.   I reserve the right to end the auction and the car is for sale locally also.  Thank you!

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R named Road & Track Performance Car of the Year

Mon, Nov 9 2015

With a 526-horsepower, 5.2-liter V8 that roars to 8,250 rpm, it's really hard to consider the 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R an underdog in any fight. However, the Shelby held the lowest as-tested price and was only middle of the pack in terms of power in Road & Track's 2016 Performance Car of the Year challenge. The 'Stang's numbers clearly didn't tell the whole story about the potent coupe because Ford's muscle car grabbed the title in this year's test. A model needs to be new or significantly updated to be eligible for the honor, and R&T found an impressive slate of eight candidates this year. The challengers included the Bentley Continental GT3-R, Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper ACR, Mercedes-AMG GT S, and Porsche Cayman GT4. The Ferrari 488 GTB was the most expensive of the bunch with an as-tested price of $347,942, which is five times more than the Shelby. Once the group was together, R&T hustled them over curving roads and on the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. There was a lot to love about the Shelby, even in this impressive crew. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," editor-in-chief Larry Webster said in the announcement of the results. The GT350R joins some great company. Past winners include the Porsche 911 GT3 last year and the Corvette in 2013. For some fantastic photography and the complete appraisal of these performance machines check out R&T's website for the full story. The article appears in the December/January issue, on newsstands November 17, and on RoadandTrack.com. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," said Larry Webster, editor-in-chief of Road & Track. "Not only does the car have soul and harness so much firepower with such ease, but the real achievement here is that it's so approachable. It's a car you can't help but love." The Mustang Shelby GT350R was the winner by a runaway vote.

Fixated By Europeans, GM Ensures The Third Time Is A Charm
Few things are better for consumers than competition raising the bar. And no campaign seems fiercer than the one currently underway in the midsize sport-sedan segment now that Cadillac has introduced its all-new 2014 CTS to go head-to-head against the benchmark Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
While the CTS has been on the market for slightly more than a decade, up until this third-generation, Cadillac hasn't truly had the proper high-performance rear-wheel-drive architecture to build a genuine world-class fighter, both inside and out. And now that the American automaker has successfully mirrored Audi, BMW and Mercedes in overall vehicle size, engine output and cabin appointments, the first shots have been fired.

Meet the mother-daughter team that's worked on almost every Chevy Volt

Sun, May 11 2014

It's Mother's Day, and we're soft enough we love our mothers enough to share a new video from General Motors with you. In it, we meet Monique Watson (left) and Evetta Osbourne, a mother-daughter team that works at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly where GM makes the Chevy Volt (along with all of GM's other plug-in hybrids: the Opel Ampera, Holden Volt and Cadillac ELR). The two work side-by-side and have installed the lithium-ion battery pack on almost all of those vehicles - nearly 80,000 of them - since GM started making the pre-production Volts in 2009. In a prepared statement, Watson said that she likes working next to her mom, day in and day out, and they the two are totally in sync when it comes to putting the 400-pound, 16.5-kWh packs into the vehicle undersides. They two can also share stories throughout the day, and Watson said, "The arrangement has absolutely improved our relationship." Osborne started working at Detroit-Hamtramck in 1999, Watson since 2006. If you're driving a Volt today, you probably have them to thank for doing a bit of the work putting your car together. See a short video of them in action below. It's Always Mother's Day for Detroit-Hamtramck Duo Mother, daughter install lithium-ion battery pack in nearly all GM electric vehicles 2014-05-08 DETROIT – For Detroit resident Evetta Osborne, every day is Mother's Day. That's because she literally works side by side with her daughter, Monique Watson, at General Motors' Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. They have installed the lithium-ion battery pack on nearly every Chevrolet Volt, Opel Ampera, Holden Volt, and Cadillac ELR since production began. In fact, apart from vacation days and an occasional sick day, the mother-daughter duo has installed almost every battery pack since the Volt was in pre-production in 2009. The ELR launched earlier this year. All told – including Ampera – that's more than 80,000 electric vehicles. "We're a good team and our relationship is secondary when it comes to performing our jobs – but it's great to work alongside my daughter, said Osborne, a mother of five. Because the battery packs weigh more than 400 pounds each, automatic guided vehicles – robotic carts that use sensors to follow a path through the plant – deliver them just as the vehicle body structures glide into position overhead. The carts then lift the T-shaped packs, and Osborne and Watson guide them into the chassis and secure each one with 24 fasteners.
