BELOW IS A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE 1989 CADILLAC COUPE - SEDAN  DE VILLE OF WITCH IS HIGHLIGHTED IN RED.

The Cadillac Coupe de Ville and Sedan de Ville shared a distinctive new interior and exterior appearance as well as a more spacious passenger compartment and increased trunk capacity for 1989. The overall length of the coupe increased 5.8 in. to 202.5 in. while that of the sedan moved up 8.8 in. to 205.2 in. The sedan's wheelbase was also expanded 3.0 in. to 113.8 in. The front overhang of both models increased 2.4 in. to 44.1 in. Their rear overhang was increased 3.4 in. to 47.2 in. New front sheet metal, grille quarter panels and hood were used. A new fascia was used to improve air flow. Both the front and rear bumpers made greater use of chrome and were fitted with an accent-colored rub strip. Bright headlight bezels and cornering lights were also featured along with a rear-mounted power antenna. At the rear a new deck lid, tail lamp and fascia were adopted. Highlighting the 1989 model's profile were new rear wheel "eyebrow" openings and lower body side color accent moldings. The sedan, in addition to having new rear doors had an integrated center high-mounted stop light. If the sedan was ordered with the optional full padded vinyl roof, an electro-luminescent wreath and crest sail ornament was installed.

Beginning with a new seat design with a Primavera cloth trim, numerous interior changes and revisions accompanied the 1989 de Ville's larger and restyled exterior. Many changes were noticeable in the front seat. These consisted of wider headrests, a storage-type center armrest with a flip-open lid and a cup holder option, and manual driver and passenger seat recliners. The sedan's rear compartment had raised rack bolsters with integral headrests, increased lower cushion length for improved thigh support and a reduced corner radius for fuller seat appearance and improved passenger comfort. Three-point shoulder belts were installed along with a raised rear package shelf/storage compartment. The sedan's longer wheelbase provided additional interior space. Rear leg room was increased 3.0 in. to 43.3 in. Knee clearance increased 3.1 in. to 6.1 in. Trunk capacity was increased from 16.1 cu. ft. to 18.4 cu. ft. on the sedan and 18.1 cu. ft. on the coupe. The jack was relocated to a position under the trunk floor which now had a flat surface area. A new trunk trim, Tyger, replaced the Teton material used in 1988. A "Tiffany" carpeting was used for the trunk.

The de Ville models now had new front and rear reversible and washable floor mats with a new retention device. A driver side express-down window was standard as were electrically operated outside car-colored mirrors, front license plate mounting provisions and an AM/FM stereo signal seeking radio with scanner, digital display, cassette player/ five-band graphic equalizer and extended range front speakers. A new Delco/Bose II Symphony sound system was optional as was a digital compact disc player integrated with the Bose II radio. Other new options included an electrochromic automatic day/night rearview mirror with three-position sensitivity switch and a heated windshield. Fifteen inch wheels with Michelin P205/70R15 tires-were standard. Aluminum touring wheels were now available as an option.

One of the world's largest muscle car museums is auctioning off its cars

Mon, Jan 11 2021

Rick Treworgy's Muscle Car City is one of the biggest collections of high-performance American cars in the world. With over 200 cars of mostly GM makes, it's a mecca for fans of the golden age of Detroit iron. Unfortunately, the museum will be shutting its doors for good on Jan. 17 and auctioning off most of its assets with no reserve. The collection is, to put it bluntly, astounding. Advertised as a combined 65,000-plus horsepower, it occupies a 60,000-square-foot retail space in Punta Gorda, Fla., in a former Walmart store. It make sense when you learn that founder Rick Treworgy made his fortune in the commercial real estate business. As a hobby, he began to amass a truly jaw-dropping collection of muscle cars, filling out a collection that often has every year of a particular model represented, or a grouping of the rarest and highest-performance option packages of that year or model. Often, Treworgy bought placeholders while scouring the country for even rarer versions. It helps that Muscle Car City also houses a showroom where unwanted cars are sold, as well as its own speed shop that stocks plenty of parts. There's even a '50s-style diner called Stingray's Bar and Grill. According to a 2014 episode of Car Crazy, Treworgy has 80 Corvettes alone, more than the actual Corvette Museum. Among them are 20 models from 1967, one of Treworgy's favorites. The rest span the decades from 1954 (he once had a '53 but sold it) to a recently acquired 2020 C8, which, according to The Drive, has only 300 miles on the odometer. You like Impalas? There are models of every year from 1958 to 1969. El Caminos? He's got 'em from 1964 to 1972. Novas? Every year from 1963 to 1970 is represented. Most are the more desirable examples of each breed, with four-speed transmissions, the biggest blocks, and unicorn option packages like a factory 1965 Z16 SS396 Chevelle, one of 200 that were ordered off-menu at Chevy dealerships. And don't even get us started on the Camaros, which include not one, but two COPO 1969s. Treworgy even owns the only known surviving example of a 1936 Chevrolet Phaeton, of which only seven were built. On top of it all, many of these cars are concours quality and have won awards at prestigious car shows. While it's sad to see a collection like this broken up, Treworgy told The Drive that he'd been planning to retire next year anyway. However, the COVID-19 pandemic sped up those plans, greatly reducing the number of visitors to his museum.

Consumer Reports loves the 2014 Cadillac CTS

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

Our first drive of the 2014 Cadillac CTS was just published today... we really liked the Vsport version. And Consumer Reports has some even stronger words of praise for the all-new luxury sedan. We already knew that Cadillac had stepped up its game with the third-gen CTS, but CR bluntly states that the sedan drives better than its German luxury counterparts.
While CR shows plenty of love for the new CTS, the outlet still takes issue with some of the in-car technology including the CUE infotainment system - no surprise there. The testers' offer all manner of positive comments where the impressive handling capabilities of the sedan are concerned, with lots of drifting around CR's private test facility in evidence to bear them out. Scroll down to watch the CTS get put through its paces.

Mixed sales results, but automaker stocks rise on need for cars in Houston

Fri, Sep 1 2017

DETROIT — The Big Three Detroit automakers on Friday reported better-than-expected August sales and issued optimistic outlooks for demand as residents of the Houston area replace flood-damaged cars and trucks after Hurricane Harvey, sending their stocks higher. General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler posted mixed August U.S. sales, with GM up 7.5 percent and Ford and Fiat Chrysler down. Japanese automaker Toyota improved sales by nearly 7 percent, while Honda fell 2.4 percent. Still, analysts focused on the potential for Detroit automakers to cut inventories and stabilize used vehicle prices as residents of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, are forced to replace tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of vehicles after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Mark LaNeve, Ford's U.S. sales chief, told analysts on Friday that following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 "we saw a very dramatic snapback" in demand. That said, Ford sales fell 2.1 percent in August. It sold 209,897 vehicles in the United States, compared with 214,482 a year earlier. Sales were down 1.9 percent in the Ford division and off 5.8 percent at Lincoln. Demand was down for cars, crossovers and SUVs. It was not clear how many vehicles in the Houston area will be scrapped, LaNeve said, saying he had seen estimates ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 to 1 million. Ford's Houston dealers may have lost fewer than 5,000 vehicles in inventory, he said. Ford is the No. 1 automaker in the Houston market, with 18 percent share, according to IHS Markit. The company plans to ship used vehicles to Houston dealers and has "every indication we would have to add some production" of new vehicles to meet demand, LaNeve said. Investor concerns about inventories of unsold vehicles and falling used car prices have weighed on Detroit automakers' shares most of this year. Now, automakers can anticipate a jolt of demand from a big market that is a stronghold for Detroit brand trucks and SUVs. "It's got to be a positive for the industry," LaNeve said. Investors appeared to agree. GM shares rose as much as 3.3 percent to their highest since early March. Ford increased 2.8 percent at $11.34, and Fiat Chrysler's U.S.-traded shares were up 5.2 percent $15.91, hitting their highest in more than five years. GM reported a 7.5 percent increase in U.S. auto sales in August, helped by robust sales of crossovers across its four brands.
