1984 Cadillac Limousine on 2040-cars
Fairfield, California, United States
This Limousine was originally purchased by Industrial Indemnity Insurance Co. of San Francisco for the CEO. There were only 1,839 Limousines built by Cadillac at the factory in 1984 and this is one of them. This was the last year of the full length, rear wheel drive limousines built by Cadillac. In 1985, Limousines were outsourced to Limo companies that cut the cars in half and lengthened them, and they used front wheel drive cars that were smaller and less stately looking. The Chauffeur was instructed to purchase a new Limo for the CEO and he got all the bells and whistles. From my research, only the Formal Limousine could get the six-way power seat, but this car has the six-way power seat. It also has a reading light for the CEO that was added but it has stopped working recently. The car was repainted by the previous owner who was going to use it for livery services. The paint was faded when I bought the car and I buffed it out to get a shine. I replaced the right taillight housing as it was slightly dented from an accident. I replaced taillights and also the molding below the grille and front bumper. The vinyl top is in decent shape. There are bubbles beginning to develop below the sail panel at the belt line. I have kept the car garaged during my possession. I've replaced the plastic bumper to fender extensions at the front. The right side needs to be painted to match the paint on the car. Pictures show this. I recently replaced the drive coupler on the front seat motor as the original disintegrated from age, so the power seat now works fine. The driver door window is a little noisy, it works but isn't as quiet as the rest. There is a foot wear spot on the driver side original floor mat. There are cigarette burns, one on the driver door and on the seat, pictures show these. The car is leaking some oil, transmission fluid and differential oil. The cruise control works, but gets an attitude occasionally by surging. I've not used the cruise control much, so maybe it's from the lack of use. I put new tires on the car during ownership. They have low miles on them but are a few years old now. I have all the receipts for the work I've had done to the car as well as the 1984 Cadillac Shop Manuals that will come with it. IT came with the V8/6/4 system but that has been disabled and runs on all eight cylinders all the time. The car needs to go to someone who can maintain it and keep it up. It's a rare car in my view with only 1,839 built and the last of the Limos built at the Cadillac factory. If you have any questions let me know and I will answer them to the best of my ability. The car easily passed emissions within the last month for it's registration. Buyer to arrange for pickup and shipping. |

2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe
Thu, 30 Oct 2014Cadillac has become a very, very different company since the dawn of the new millenium. Its turn-of-the-century lineup, consisting of staid offerings like the Seville, DeVille and Eldorado, represented the Old Cadillac. These cars were plagued with Old GM quality issues and catered to a more elderly audience. Since the company's Art and Science design language arrived, though, we've seen Cadillac flesh out its lineup in a big way, introducing notable and (so far) enduring products, like the the CTS, SRX and most recently, the ATS.
With the CTS tackling the 5 Series segment and the SRX duking it out with the Lexus RX and its classmates, the ATS has been left with the tough task of battling the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, among others. Critically, at least, it has excelled in this role, but it's still working on finding its feet sales-wise. On paper, broadening the model range by adding a two-door personal luxury coupe could help.
After a week with the ATS Coupe, though, we've found a car that, while retaining the standard model's excellent driving character, doesn't quite offer enough visual excitement to stand up to other cars in its segment.
7 major automakers to build open EV charging network
Wed, Jul 26 2023A new joint venture established by BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis will build a new North American electric vehicle charging network on a scale designed to compete with Tesla's industry-benchmark Supercharger network. The 30,000-plus planned new chargers will accommodate both Tesla's almost-standard North American Charging System (NACS) and existing automakers' Combined Charging System (CCS) options, effectively guaranteeing compatibility with the vast majority of current and upcoming electric models — whether they're from one of the involved automakers or not. "With the generational investments in public charging being implemented on the Federal and State level, the joint venture will leverage public and private funds to accelerate the installation of high-powered charging for customers. The new charging stations will be accessible to all battery-powered electric vehicles from any automaker using Combined Charging System (CCS) or North American Charging Standard (NACS) and are expected to meet or exceed the spirit and requirements of the U.S. National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program." Critically, the automakers involved will have a say in how the charging tech is implemented, guaranteeing that the hardware will play nicely with each automaker's in-house charging systems. Hyundai and Kia, for example, were hesitant to jump on board the Tesla NACS bandwagon earlier this year over concerns that the Supercharger network is insufficient for powering the two automakers' 800-volt charging systems; similar tech is used by Volkswagen and Porsche. In addition to providing much-needed capacity and high-output charging for America's growing fleet of electric cars and trucks, the new network will integrate seamlessly with each automaker's in-app and in-vehicle features, rather than forcing customers to use third-party tools and payment systems, as is the case with some existing public charging infrastructure. "The functions and services of the network will allow for seamless integration with participating automakersÂ’ in-vehicle and in-app experiences, including reservations, intelligent route planning and navigation, payment applications, transparent energy management and more. In addition, the network will leverage Plug & Charge technology to further enhance the customer experience," the announcement said.
Looking back on our favorite cars of Mad Men
Tue, Apr 7 2015The second half of the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuted this week, set to cap a run of public and critical acclaim. A decade's worth of interesting cars also made for good television, if you were paying attention. Vehicles didn't often steal the spotlight from Don, Betty, Roger, Joan and the gang, but they added meaningfully to the tone and beauty of the series. We sorted through the wheeled extras from Mad Men's archives, and choose some of our favorites to highlight. The list consists of cars that had at least a small impact on the plot of an episode, though certainly there are worthy gems hiding in just about every street and driving scene. Check out our subjective top five, and then let us know which of the Mad Men cars would be on your list. 1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille – Season 2 Don Draper's Cadillac Coupe DeVille, all 500 feet of it, shows up in a few seasons of the show, but it's the first appearance that sets the tone. A Cadillac salesman, cut from the same cloth as Draper, asks what Don drives right now. "A Dodge," Don admits. "Those are wonderful if you want to get somewhere," allows the salesman, "this is for when you've already arrived." For a man on the move up corporate and social ladders that's a powerful message, and a pitch-perfect car. 1961 Lincoln Continental – Season 3 The most stylish Lincoln Continental ever is perfect set dressing for the mod show, of course. Though it's interesting that the car isn't cast as dapper Draper's ride, but rather his father-in-law's. Grandpa Gene does what all great grandfathers are bound to: lets his granddaughter Sally drive the big Lincoln while he works the pedals. Generational bond secured, in fine fashion. When you go back through the first three seasons of the show, you'll notice that Continentals show up more than once, too. There's nothing quite like them to evoke the best of the early '60s. 1963 John Deere 110 – Season 3 The only non-standard passenger vehicle on the list, no self-respecting gearhead/Mad Men fan should quibble with the inclusion of the John Deere 110 riding mower. For starters, the Deere is lovely to look at; a miniature version of the American Heartland icon in its green and yellow duds. The 110 appears as if milled from a solid block of steel, just the opposite of today's sleek, plasticky lawn minders (we're scouring Craigslist for one to bring home). The John Deere also has dear ramifications to the plot, too.
