1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Station Wagon 7.7l 472 C.i. Thm400 Very Rare Classic on 2040-cars
Lafayette, California, United States
Here it is! Enveloped in History and One of the Rarest Cars on the Planet! With only 14 manufactured in 1969 it's said that only 6 still exist in the world today! Body by Fisher and Conversion by Custom Craft Division of Automobile Specialty, Detroit, Michigan. Other wagons were owned by Supreme Court Judges, Country Singers, Dean Martin and Jeff Dennis to name the few...A Factory 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood 9 Passenger Station Wagon with Sunroof and Luggage Rack 472 c.i. 375 h.p. @ 4400 rpm 10.5 to 1 Compression Ratio 525 Torque ft. lbs. @ 3300 rpm THM-400 3 spd. Trans. Rochester Quadra-Jet 4V Carb. 19'2" Over-All Length 130" w.b. 5200 lb. Gross Vehicle Weight, $10,961 MSRP in 1969 Jeff Dennis a Real Estate Developer and Founder of the R-Ranches of California purchased this "First and Favorite" of many Cadillacs for his Personal and Business Collection. Besides this 1969 Fleetwood Wagon he also owned a 1972 Fleetwood Wagon and a 1976 Fleetwood Wagon and several Eldorado Convertibles, this 1969 Station Wagon is the last from that collection. These vehicles were all purchased by Mr. Dennis for his personal use while on the Ranches and as Courtesy Cars to accommodate his prospective and current customers thus the Low Mileage on this Classic, they pretty much just stayed at home and on the range! In 1969 several Cadillac Fleetwood Wagons served as Indianapolis 500 Courtesy Cars to shuttle the V.I.P's of the Speedway, Racing Team Big Shots, Drivers, Team Members etc. to and from the Track, Hotels and Airports. It's been stated that up to 6 vehicles were in service and although the odds are good that this may one of those vehicles we have not as of yet been able to certify or document that. The reason for bringing this up is that there is a "Commemorative Plaque of Appreciation" mounted on the dash. With an Offical Seal of the Indianopolis Motor Speedway, saying "in Appreciation of Courtesty Service 1969". We have been trying and still are in touch with the Indy 500 museum and searching the internet to get this documented or at least a picture of it in service, but as of this writing all we have is the plaque on the dash. : FYI Mario Andretti in his Hawk III / Ford won that race over Dan Gurney with an average speed of 156.867 mph and paid $206.727 in winnings for his Victory... After spending most of it's traveling life in the state of California as a Courtesy Car for the R-Ranches it was taken out of service and stored back in 2001. Resting peacefully at one of the R-Ranches the R-Wild Horse Ranch in Redding, CA. Then around 2010 brought to Smith River, CA. to the home of Bill Dennis recently retired Drift Boat owner, Outfitter, Avid Fisherman and one of Jeff and Shirley Dennis' four children. There it has sat in storage, again peacefully resting in his garage until this July (2014). Bill contacted me to resurrect this last remaining Classic Wagon and get it ready For Sale. Stating he wanted the car to be driven and appreciated rather than just sitting in storage, he wishes he had the time to dedicate to this Rare One Owner Family Vehicle but recently admitted he just does not. Thus this "Once in a Lifetime" chance, your only chance to own and conduct the restoration of this Classic Historical American Road Ruling Timepiece! Why me, well Bill and I grew up together since back in the 50's and Bill knows of my experience with Classic Cadillacs, Performance Hot Rods and Show Cars. I know Hot Rods and I know Classics! My work on the Fleetwood thus far: Engine and Transmission both completely flushed, filters changed and worn gaskets replaced. Looking back on our favorite cars of Mad Men
Tue, Apr 7 2015The second half of the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuted this week, set to cap a run of public and critical acclaim. A decade's worth of interesting cars also made for good television, if you were paying attention. Vehicles didn't often steal the spotlight from Don, Betty, Roger, Joan and the gang, but they added meaningfully to the tone and beauty of the series. We sorted through the wheeled extras from Mad Men's archives, and choose some of our favorites to highlight. The list consists of cars that had at least a small impact on the plot of an episode, though certainly there are worthy gems hiding in just about every street and driving scene. Check out our subjective top five, and then let us know which of the Mad Men cars would be on your list. 1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille – Season 2 Don Draper's Cadillac Coupe DeVille, all 500 feet of it, shows up in a few seasons of the show, but it's the first appearance that sets the tone. A Cadillac salesman, cut from the same cloth as Draper, asks what Don drives right now. "A Dodge," Don admits. "Those are wonderful if you want to get somewhere," allows the salesman, "this is for when you've already arrived." For a man on the move up corporate and social ladders that's a powerful message, and a pitch-perfect car. 1961 Lincoln Continental – Season 3 The most stylish Lincoln Continental ever is perfect set dressing for the mod show, of course. Though it's interesting that the car isn't cast as dapper Draper's ride, but rather his father-in-law's. Grandpa Gene does what all great grandfathers are bound to: lets his granddaughter Sally drive the big Lincoln while he works the pedals. Generational bond secured, in fine fashion. When you go back through the first three seasons of the show, you'll notice that Continentals show up more than once, too. There's nothing quite like them to evoke the best of the early '60s. 1963 John Deere 110 – Season 3 The only non-standard passenger vehicle on the list, no self-respecting gearhead/Mad Men fan should quibble with the inclusion of the John Deere 110 riding mower. For starters, the Deere is lovely to look at; a miniature version of the American Heartland icon in its green and yellow duds. The 110 appears as if milled from a solid block of steel, just the opposite of today's sleek, plasticky lawn minders (we're scouring Craigslist for one to bring home). The John Deere also has dear ramifications to the plot, too.
GM laying off more than 4,000 workers Monday morning
Sat, Feb 2 2019According to reports from Automotive News, The Detroit News, and CNN, General Motors plans to begin laying off more than 4,000 salaried workers starting Monday morning. In a statement to AN, a spokesperson for the automaker said, "We are not confirming timing. Our employees are our priority. We will communicate with them first." We've been expecting layoffs at General Motors since November, 2018. At the time, the Detroit-based automaker announced it would seek to shed 8,100 salaried employees, shut down five assembly plants in North America, and kill off several slow-selling models. One month earlier, GM offered buyout packages to 18,000 workers and said it would seek to cut its global workforce by 25 percent. A spokesperson said at the time the moves were "proactive steps to get ahead of the curve by accelerating our efforts to address overall business performance." The cost-cutting moves are expected to save GM up to $2.5 billion in 2019 and as much as $6 billion by 2020. David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist of Mainstay Capital Management, referred to the impending culling as "Black Monday" and told The Detroit News that the layoffs would begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue in waves throughout the coming days and weeks. GM plans to deliver on its fourth-quarter and full-year 2018 earnings report on Wednesday. President Donald Trump plans to deliver the annual State of the Union address a day earlier on Tuesday. We expect to hear plenty more from both sides over the next several days.
Meet the other Cadillac wagon. It's as American as ABBA
Tue, Aug 16 2022The Cadillac CTS Wagon became a cult classic the second it went on sale. We all knew that it was never going to sell in anything approaching significant numbers, and if that "we" didn't include those actually working at GM, one would have to wonder what they were smoking. Cadillac was still having a hard enough time trying to convince people that it was now a BMW-fighting sport luxury brand rather than the purveyor of Grandpa-piloted land yachts. To many, a sport sedan like the CTS seemed like a stretch. But a CTS sport wagon? It sure seemed like GM was just doing things for funzies, an impression only enhanced by the CTS-V Wagon. Forget cult classic. That thing was an instant legend. And yet, the CTS wasn't the only Cadillac of that era offered as a wagon. It wasn't even the first. Before GM said "to hell with it, let's have some fun" on this side of the pond, over in Europe, it had already taken a page from its old badge-engineering playbook to create the 2006 Cadillac BLS Wagon. It was available as a sedan, too, but its awkward majesty is best enjoyed as the long-roof model. There's just something off about the whole thing, right? That's probably because it also looks vaguely familiar, as if you've seen it before. So where the hell does this thing come from? Sweden! Behind that Cadillac Art and Science face is a Saab 9-3, and in the case of the BLS Wagon, the Saab 9-3 Sport Combi wagon. The roofline is the dead giveaway, as no other wagon has ever looked like that. In fact, the roof and windows were the only exterior elements to copy directly over from 9-3 to BLS. No kidding. With the Cadillac front end, doesn't the Saab-funky-boxiness make it look like a miniature hearse? The answer is yes. GM's design team, led by Ed Welburn, was quite pleased with his work. Perhaps it even egged him on to create a real Cadillac sport wagon? "The whole team was very excited to apply Cadillac's design language to a wagon for the first time," said Welburn in a press release from the time. "The V-shaped chrome-plated grille, a Cadillac hallmark, is picked up again by the shape of the rear window, and the body side character lines make it unmistakably a Cadillac." The interior is surprisingly different from the 9-3, including the ignition switch migrating from the center console up to the steering column. It also wasn't exactly in keeping with the Cadillac norm of the time.
