1955 Cadillac Fleetwood, 40,000 original miles This car is one of the finest original cars I have seen in my 40 years in the hobby. It has a true 40,270 miles from new. The body still wears the original factory black paint that still looks wonderful owing to its having been garage kept all its life. It has the rare factory air conditioning that works as it should. The attractive chrome vents in the headliner direct the air as it moves from the AC unit in the trunk up through clear plastic vent tubes to be blown gently on the passengers. It has power windows and power seat for the expected luxury conveniences and they work as new. It has the wonderbar radio and of course power steering and power brakes as you would expect from the top of the line luxury sedan from Cadillac. The 331 cubic inch V8 engine starts instantly and purrs as it runs. It is smooth at all speeds. The automatic transmission shifts perfectly and it steers and brakes as it should. There is a newer dual exhaust system. It is a great driving car. For more photos please go to: http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AYtGrNk3ctWLI7A The interior of Cadillacs of this era have always been known for their opulence. The factory brochures had pages of fabric choices for the discerning customer to make their custom orders to suit their personal taste. The interior of this car is excellent. The dash is perfect with all the chrome in excellent condition and the dash pad is blemish free. The headliner is perfect as are all the gray cloth door panels. There is slight wear on the drivers side armrest. The carpets are original and are in great condition but are a little faded from their original gray. The seats are in excellent condition but appear to have seatcovers over the original upholstery that may have been installed when nearly new. The original upholstery may be intact under these attractive and correct looking covers. One interesting thing is that there were only two seatbelts originally installed, one for the driver and one for the right rear seat. This was likely a chauffeur driven car. The body is straight and damage free. I can find no evidence of any repairs or repaint. There are a couple of spots that have been dabbed with a brush and a few small door dings but overall the paint is excellent for having lived almost 60 years. It is way too nice to think about a repaint. All chrome is very nice original. This is a California car since new and there is no rust anywhere. It has been kept in a garage since new and I believe it has had only 3 owners from new. It was kept at a ranch estate here in Ventura county from new. It has been driven sparingly to keep the mileage low but has been exercised to keep everything working. Overall this is a wonderful original car that would suit any collection or Cadillac enthusiast. Feel free to call if you need more photos of specific areas. I have this car advertised elsewhere and reserve the right to remove it from ebay. As is. No warranty is expressed or implied. Thank you for your interest. |

Cadillac follows Lincoln in going back to proper names
Thu, Dec 12 2019Who else is excited for the 2025 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham? Right, don't all excitedly jump up and down at the same time. May make Earth wobble. In an interview with multiple outlets (and brought to our attention by Reuters and CNET Roadshow) that mostly covered Cadillac's electrification plans, Cadillac President Steve Carlisle indicated that the brand's Euro-style alphanumeric naming strategy will mercifully be coming to an end. CNET indicates it'll correspond with the rollout of new EV models, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it happen even earlier. Lincoln's similar decision has already proven to be successful, and it's always seemed like a matter of time before Cadillac followed suit given the two brands' similar history and market segments. The current naming convention of CT(number) for cars and XT(number) for crossovers was hatched in 2014 and is widely credited to former Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen, who had previously transformed Infiniti's naming convention into something similarly Germanic. That the man previously worked at Audi should be a surprise to no one. While people have generally been confused by the switch, we can't say it's any worse than the old CTS, XTS, ATS and SRX business that came before. At least de Nysschen's system had a hierarchy. Yet, for a brand once known for grand, stately cars and equally grand, stately names like Eldorado, Seville and, yes, Escalade, a European-style alphanumeric strategy never seemed right. It was at least indicative of Cadillac's constant attempts to emulate German brands rather than setting its own, uniquely American course (as Lincoln has done recently). That the most American and successful of its lineup, the Escalade, hung onto its name through thick-and-thin speaks volumes. So, will we really be seeing that '25 Fleetwood Brougham? That does seem rather doubtful. Beyond Eldorado, there's not a lot out there in the back catalog that doesn't reek of crusty old country club luxury. Or was garbage. Perhaps sampling from Cadillac's concept car file with something like Elmiraj? Whatever it comes up with, though, how could it be worse than simultaneously selling an XT5 and XTS? Cadillac moving to NY as separate business unit
Tue, 23 Sep 2014Cadillac is under new leadership, and the automaker is committed to turning itself (back) into a global luxury powerhouse. It's got a strong product offensive (of products currently in showrooms, and much more on the way), and now it will have a new location to call home.
Following earlier speculation, GM has confirmed that it is moving Cadillac's base of operations from Detroit to New York. Lest you think it might rent offices in the Chrysler Building (which is, after all, one of the tallest in the city), the new Cadillac global headquarters will be located in the Soho area with a "multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices." The company is still evaluating which staff will move along with it to Manhattan, and which will remain in Michigan where technical operations will still be based.
The move from Detroit to New York is the first major change being instituted by new Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen, who previously undertook a similar shift in moving Infiniti away from Nissan headquarters to its own facility in Hong Kong. Ford had attempted a similar move in relocating its luxury portfolio under the Premier Automotive Group (which then included Lincoln, Mercury, Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Volvo) from Dearborn to Irvine, CA, but ended up moving Lincoln (the last one still under the Ford umbrella) back to Michigan. Other luxury automakers like Audi (Volkswagen) and Maserati (Fiat) are headquartered away from their parent companies as well, but have a longer history of independent operation.
2020 Cadillac XT4 Sport Drivers' Notes | Worth a look, or two
Fri, Mar 6 2020The 2020 Cadillac XT4 is Cadillac’s smallest crossover in its burgeoning lineup of SUVs. Most of the attention is on the new Escalade these days, but the XT4 is where someone with a lighter budget might enter the Cadillac brand. Our tester happens to be the Sport model, giving it a distinctive appearance, separate from the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims. This one has a gloss black mesh grille, black trim throughout the exterior and Sport-specific wheels — the others rely much more heavily on chrome. Cadillac stepped it up in the design studio for the XT4, as one of its best qualities is the exterior design. It compares well to other small crossovers and doesn't look like your typical cookie-cutter crossover on the road. ThereÂ’s only one engine available, and itÂ’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. When the XT4 came out for the 2019 model year, this engine was brand new. Today, Cadillac is passing it around the lineup to vehicles like the CT5 and CT4. A nine-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission option, as well. Our tester has all-wheel drive, but front-wheel drive is standard on lesser XT4s. There isnÂ’t a whole lot changed for the 2020 model year, but Cadillac did add an “Off Road” mode and made a bunch of safety equipment standard. With our test car being a Sport trim with all-wheel drive equipped, the base price is $42,295, a fair bit greater than the $36,690 standard car. After options, our XT4 totaled $48,310. The most expensive extra is a $1,500 Bose Centerpoint audio system, combined with navigation. An $1,100 Driver Assistance package brought adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking and reverse automatic emergency braking. A Cold Weather package added heated seats all around and a heated steering wheel for $850. Finally, the $470 Driver Awareness package brought automatic high beams and lane-keep assist. Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder: This one grew on me the more I drove it. I was unconvinced for the first part of my drive, but then things started to feel more well-though-out as I used them. For instance, the line of buttons across the center stack looks daunting, until you turn the car on and their labels are illuminated. Then everything is easy to find thanks to the lighting, symmetry and the fact that you only have to look down a single line of buttons rather than hunt around a grid pattern.
