GM recalling Cadillac ATS, XTS, Chevy Impala over faulty brake lamps

General Motors has issued a recall covering 1,627 sedans over faulty brake lamps. Both the 2013 Cadillac ATS and XTS are affected by this problem, as is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala.
According to an official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, "the brake lamps may intermittently flash without the brakes being applied and the cruise control may disengage" on these vehicles. The report does not state that the brakes themselves are faulty, but rather that "if the brake lamps flash when the vehicle is not slowing, a following driver may not adjust vehicle speed when the vehicle is in fact braking."
This marks the first recall for the 2013 Cadillac ATS, as well as the recently introduced 2014 Chevy Impala. In late 2012, over 12,000 Cadillac XTS models were recalled due to a head restraint issue.

Cadillac ELR getting massive discounts, some up to $14,000

Well, that didn't go as planned. General Motors had marketed the Cadillac ELR extended-range plug-in as a premium version of the Chevrolet Volt with some Caddy refinements. Now, it looks like that premium, at least from a price standpoint, is shrinking. Shoppers in a number of states are reporting that GM and its dealers are discounting the ELR in order to move more off dealer lots. The issue is that few people are biting at the official price tag of about $76,000, so GM has started offering as much as $8,000 worth of dealer and customer incentives, Transport Evolved reports. More recently, dealers in states such as Florida, Texas and Maryland are offering discounts in the $12,000-to-$14,000 range, and that's before any federal and state plug-in incentives kick in. It's not difficult to guess why. Through the first half of the year, GM sold fewer than 400 ELRs. Last month, Caddy moved just 97 units, or about as many as Tesla sells of its Model S in a day. Perpahs recent spy shots that reveal a test ELR that appears to up the sportiness quotient, with touches such as larger wheels and brakes, will also help sales. Cadillac Offering $100 For Test Drives

Cadillac is hoping to jumpstart sluggish sales with a generous offer to customers to get them into dealerships and perhaps behind the wheel of their very own Caddy. Cadillac is giving a $100 gift card to any insured car owners age 21 or older who drive non-GM vehicles built after 2004, WDIV reported. If you buy a Cadillac, the automaker is offering an additional $1,500 plus other incentives. Such sales promotions have worked well in the past, analysts told The Detroit News. Cadillac had strong sales last year, but sales are down 7.3 percent this quarter compared to the first quarter last year. Cadillac will run the promotion until the end of the month.
