1985 CADILLAC ELDORADO

TOURING COUPE CONVERTIBLE

By Hess & Eisenhardt

THIS CAR IS THE RAREST 79-85 ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE ON THE PLANET

585 TOURING COUPES WERE BUILT IN 1985, BUT ONLY 5 KNOWN CONVERTIBLES WERE BUILT

This car is restored to factory built specs, low mileage, runs and looks like new.

True Mileage 67,300 Miles Since New

This is not one of the 2300 "Factory" built Biarritz Convertibles

This is an extremely unusual car, please read...

In the 1980's, Cadillac realized that they were losing sales to many of the European car manufacturers and came up with a special Eldorado model that was called the Eldorado Touring Coupe.  There were MANY differences between the standard Eldorado, the Eldorado Biarritz, and the Eldorado Touring Coupe.

The engine and drive train were the same, but there were differences in the suspension, specifically different springs and shocks, as well as larger anti-roll bars front and rear.  As far as appearance, The Touring Coupe had color keyed headlight and tail light trim, color keyed wheel opening moldings, a sporty ribbed rocker and lower fender trim, and a special medallion on the hood instead of the normal stand-up wreath and crest.

The biggest difference was in the interior.  All Touring Coupes featured a luxurious roll and pleated bucket seat interior with large floor console.  This particular car was purchased new by a Cadillac salesman in New Jersey and sent to famous coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt in Cincinnati, OH for conversion.  I have the window sticker for the car as well as documentation from Hess & Eisenhardt.  Please examine the photos to see the superb condition of this car.

Lets start off with some basic photos of the car:

This was a no-rust, no-hit car, but when Hess & Eisenhardt does their convertible conversions, they paint the car from the doors back.  In the 1980's GM was still using acrylic lacquer paint on these cars and due to the excessive paint build up, the paint on the trunk and quarter panels was cracking.  The car had all trim removed, and was taken down to bare metal and repainted in the original Bordeaux Red Metallic in a high quality base-coat clear-coat finish at a cost of $7000.00.  A brand new top was fitted, and since I wanted everything painted properly, the windshield was removed and replaced with a new one.

Some more photos...

The photos were taken on a mainly overcast day.  In direct sunlight, the Bordeaux Red really "pops".

Wheels are correct and original.  Tires are new.

Some interior shots... Taken at different times of the day, lighting differences make the tan interior look different in different lighting.  It is really excellent.

No real wear on the interior.  Door panels arm rest and switch areas have no cracks or splits.

Edges of seats are not warn, plastic seat trim is mint.

Original boot still fits perfectly, not shrunken or torn.

Tilt/Tele Steering wheel and dash pad are beautiful, all dash items function 100% radio plays well, cruise works,

ICE COLD Air Conditioning with full R-12 charge

Standard Eldorado Coupes had the anodized aluminum trim on the top of each door, and the ones on this car are fine.  The trim that went from the door, across the bottom of the fixed quarter window and turned up to meet the roof is diecast and they usually are pitted even on low mileage cars.  Although it pained me to do it, I took an NOS pair and cut them down just like Hess & Eisenhardt did and installed them on the car after the car was painted. The rubber parts are all new too. All of the windows line up correctly and they were all lubed and adjusted when the car was apart for paint.  See below:

Now for the mechanical parts of the car...

This is a NO Rust Garage Kept Car.

Floorpans are excellent, suspension, brakes, exhaust excellent, new Goodrich Radial T/A's with 50 miles on them.

I have owned about 6 of the 84-85 Biarritz convertibles throughout the years, and also own a 1980 Hess & Eisenhardt Convertible and this car is the nicest riding 85 Eldorado I have ever owned.  The touring suspension really makes a difference.  This is a rattle-free convertible and is the only Touring Coupe Convertible known.  The condition is outstanding, dazzling paint and chrome, beautiful interior, everything on the car is working 100% including the radio, cruise control, climate control, level ride, digital dash, and power top.

Your personal inspection or inspection representative is welcomed.  You are welcome to test drive the car.  I am located in Huntingdon Valley, PA, just outside of Phila, PA.

Convenient to the Phila Airport, PA Turnpike, or I-95.  Inexpensive delivery available.

Please contact me with any and all questions, and thank you for looking!

Cadillac calling in 4,900 CTS-V models for brake issue

Fri, Apr 24 2015

General Motors is recalling just over 4,900 first-generation Cadillac CTS-V sedans built between September 6, 2003 and June 11, 2007. The affected vehicles are largely registered in cold weather states where rock salt is used on roads. The salt could corrode the front brake hose's fitting in the brake calipers, which could lead to a brake fluid leak, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's bulletin reads. Needless to say, that would make slowing down the Corvette-powered Caddy a challenge. The affected vehicles were registered and/or sold in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. GM is set to begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles, who will need to report to dealers to have both front brake hose assemblies replaced. Repairs are, naturally, free of charge. Scroll down for the official NHTSA bulletin. Report Receipt Date: APR 15, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V225000 Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Potential Number of Units Affected: 4,907 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V vehicles manufactured between September 6, 2003, and June 11, 2007, currently registered, or originally sold, in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, snow or water containing road salt or other contaminants may corrode the front brake hose fitting at the caliper. CONSEQUENCE: Corrosion may cause the brake system to leak which could lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace both front brake hose assemblies, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15149. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 10V-105. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Cadillac considering ultra-luxe, $100k+ Escalade

Tue, Sep 22 2015

The Cadillac Escalade has pushed incrementally up-market over the years. From its humble Chevy/GMC truck underpinnings, the latest Escalade starts at $72,970 and tops out at $96,940. But according to the latest reports, Cadillac is weighing an even more upscale version. Though the exact nature of the upgrades that would push the Escalade further up-market remain unknown – and perhaps undecided at this point – the impetus for such a move is crystal clear. European luxury SUVs keep getting more and more expensive, both from established players and new challengers. Bentley just launched the Bentayga, and other luxury marques like Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Maserati, and Lamborghini are all getting into the game. All the while manufacturers like Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz keep rolling out ever more expensive offerings, like the Range Rover Autobiography and anticipating forthcoming Maybach sport-ute. To challenge those European imports with their astronomic price tags, Cadillac could go with an even higher trim level than its existing Platinum spec – or it could go with a more powerful, performance-oriented Escalade V or Vsport. Getting that big a vehicle to hustle would require a lot of power, but then General Motors has never been one to shy away from slotting a bigger engine into its vehicles. One thing's for certain though, and that's that Cadillac isn't quite done with pushing the Escalade higher up the market.

de Nysschen pushes to separate Cadillac, GM

Wed, Aug 12 2015

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen continues his push to separate his brand from General Motors. After controversially picking up shop and moving to New York's trendy SoHo neighborhood, de Nysschen has now gone on record as saying that within two years, the brand will enjoy "a far higher degree of autonomy and self sufficiency." That autonomy will include the brand reporting its own financial results, independent of GM. But what would such a move do for Cadillac? Well, as de Nysschen explained it to Automotive News, "Cadillac at this state makes a very sizeable contribution to the overall profit at General Motors." If that's truly the case, separating financial announcements serves to emphasize the prosperous character de Nysschen seems so keen on attaching to his brand. But that's only one phase of Cadillac's push to distance itself from GM. De Nysschen is eager to revamp the company's dealership model so that it stands out from other GM brands, calling it a "very profound focus." Those moves, according to AN, including a change to the current dealer incentive model with a particular emphasis on building the brand rather than nailing sales figures. "If you aren't strengthening the brand perception, you should have less reward," de Nysschen told AN. While his goals seem clear, de Nysschen's statements have left us wondering whether they're also somewhat counterintuitive. Emphasizing Caddy's prosperity to potential consumers while incentivizing dealers to move less metal seems more like a tactical move rather than a strategic one. And there's no telling how the new dealership model will impact de Nysschen's goal to hit 500,000 global sales by 2020. Related Video:
