1984 was the first year that an option of RPO-YP8 was offered from the factory on the Cadillac Eldorado via the dealerships. Cadillac didn't actually build the convertibles in-house and, instead, contracted ASC/McLaren to convert the cars to fulfill the orders received via the dealers.

ASC is best known for being the same company that built the Buick GNX and special edition Ford Mustang, in addition to many other specialty-optioned cars. ASC also pioneered and developed the factory sunroof for most American cars.

There were 3,300 produced in 1984 and only 2,300 in 1985. Most of the cars were ordered with nearly every single dealer option prior to being delivered to ASC.

Some of the notable examples were an upgraded, heavier version of the "touring suspension," to compensate for the extra weight of the convertible as well as a 3:15 axle ratio to make it a bit quicker. It also features a heavy duty cooling system that has an upgraded intercooler for the engine and transmission. The only 2 options that the Convertibles could not get were the Bose sound system and memory seats. The buttons that would control the seats were, instead, used to lower the rear windows and the Bose package featuring enlarged speakers was omitted due to the fact there was no room in the rear for the larger speakers due to the convertible mechanisms.

The car also received several modifications to reinforce the frame, subframe and support beams. This makes the underbody of the convertible more durable than the coupe as well as create a near 50/50 weight distribution.

This particular car is originally from California and wears its original dealer bezel from Symes Cadillac around the license plate. At a staggeringly low 32,334 miles, (a few may be added prior to the sale due to weekend cruising) this car is virtually new.

There are a few flaws to the car, however. The most noticeable is that the bumper fillers are missing; they succumbed to dry rot and haven't been replaced yet. Other faults include a few minor tears in the driver's side arm rest and a bad muffler. Otherwise, there is no rust on this car.  You can see, via the spots where the bumper fillers go, that there is no rust behind any of the panels and that the car is as solid as when it left the factory.

The paint is original to the car and it has never been repainted; barring the touch-up work that ASC did after they cut the roof off of the car when they built it.

It runs and drives like a Cadillac should. The brakes were recently redone and the tires replaced before it made the trip down from Wisconsin. I have full receipts for around $2,000.00 worth of brake work to verify this.  It has a clean Wisconsin title and is located in Tomball, TX; always stored indoors with the top up.

The pictures speak for the quality of this car. It's nearly all original with only rubber components (belts, hoses, tires, etc) and brake parts being replaced.  It's hard to find a car from this era in this condition, let alone one with so few miles.

I have significantly lowered the reserve and, if the car doesn't sell this time, there will be no more eBay listings.  I have the car listed locally on Craigslist and reserve the right to end the listing early if I get an acceptable offer.

Shatner's Rivet motorcycle to enter limited production with CTS-V engine [w/video]

Sat, Apr 11 2015

William Shatner has entertained the world for decades, from playing Captain Kirk on Star Trek to covering songs like Rocket Man and Common People. Now in his 80s, Billy Shatz has embarked on one of his weirdest projects yet: helping to design the wild Rivet One trike with motorcycle fabrication company American Wrench. Now, you can order one too with power as crazy as the three-wheeler's design. We last saw the Rivet One's aluminum body with the styling like a menacing, art-deco easy chair a few months ago, but now Shatner has started talking about the trike's powerplant, which is based around the heart of a Cadillac CTS-V. "It's a beast with advanced guts. It's powered by an all-aluminum, computer-controlled, supercharged and intercooled V8 engine – producing over 500 HP," Shatner said to Gizmag. Keep an eye out because Shatner intends to captain the Rivet One from Chicago to Los Angeles later this year. Also, if you want a ride like Captain James T. Kirk, the company is taking requests for the trike, made on a build-to-order basis after completing Shatner's job, according to Gizmag. Prices aren't announced yet but expect the number to be as out of this world as a voyage of the Enterprise. The video below provides a further look at the Rivet One's unconventional design. GM to announce second U.S. battery plant, in Tennessee, with LG Chem, sources say

Wed, Apr 14 2021

General Motors and South Korean joint-venture partner LG Chem will announce a second U.S. battery cell manufacturing plant on Friday, revealing plans for a $2.3 billion factory in Spring Hill, Tennessee, three people familiar with the matter said. The plant will use a different, more cost-effective battery chemistry than the one the companies will offer from the joint-venture plant they are building in Lordstown, Ohio, the sources said on Wednesday. The battery will be for the Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover vehicle that GM will begin building at its nearby Spring Hill assembly plant next year, the sources said. The timing of the Tennessee battery plant's opening is unclear, but there will be a period when the battery is supplied for the Lyriq by another LG facility until the Tennessee plant opens and it will not come from Lordstown, one of the sources said. GM would not confirm the details and declined further comment, and a spokesman for LG did not have an immediate comment. A Tennessee economic development spokeswoman also declined to comment. The No. 1 U.S. automaker previously said it was exploring the feasibility of another U.S. battery cell plant with LG's battery unit, LG Energy Solution, via its Ultium Cells LLC joint venture. Sources previously told Reuters that GM and LG Chem were in advanced talks with Tennessee officials, and that the plant there would be similar in scope to the $2.3 billion Lordstown plant. GM said in October it would invest $2 billion in Spring Hill to build EVs. The Detroit automaker said last year it was investing $27 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles over the next five years. Sources previously said GM would need more battery plants beyond the Tennessee one to meet aggressive EV targets. GM has set a target in January of halting sales of light-duty gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles by 2035. LG Energy said last month it planned to invest more than $4.5 billion in U.S. battery production over the next four years, including plans to build at least two new plants. LG had been embroiled in a high-profile dispute with rival South Korean firm SK Innovation in the United States after LG alleged SK stole trade secrets, but the companies settled that and other disputes with SK agreeing to pay $1.8 billion to LG. Cadillac will expand its range of high-performance Blackwing models

Mon, Mar 1 2021

Cadillac proved the American sport sedan isn't dead when it introduced the Blackwing variants of the CT4-V and the CT5-V (pictured) in February 2021. Launched to denote a short-lived V8 engine, the nameplate will appear on other go-fast members of the company's range in the coming years, but there's at least one model it will steer clear of. "Blackwing is reserved for really the pinnacle, the purest expression of performance and track capability, and that's what it's going to stand for going forward. [The CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing] won’t be the last Blackwing cars that we do, but you wonÂ’t see one on every vehicle. ItÂ’s not appropriate. I couldnÂ’t imagine doing an Escalade-V Blackwing," said Cadillac engineering boss Tony Roma in an interview with enthusiast site GM Authority. His comments are reassuring, because they confirm that Cadillac won't water down the Blackwing badge by putting it on sporty-looking models that are more show than go. What's next remains up in the air. The CT4 and the CT5 are Cadillac's only sedans as of writing, so the next Blackwing-badged model will either be an electric car, a crossover, or both. Regardless, it should arrive as a truly track-capable hot rod developed for hardcore enthusiasts. For others, Roma also suggested more V-badged cars are in the pipeline, though he stopped short of listing the models the emblem will appear on. Demand for quick crossovers is growing steadily in America, so it's not difficult to imagine an XT4-V, for example. And, an unverified report published in February 2021 claims the Escalade's 6.2-liter V8 will soon receive a 200-horsepower bump thanks to a factory-backed, dealer-installed supercharger. If the rumor is accurate, the 600-plus-horse Escalade could be the V-branded model that Roma alluded to in the interview. "The V-Series lineup has expanded," he said. "You're going to see more of that in the future. We're going to do more V-Series. It's important to our brand, and you'll see it on other products." Related video:
