1985 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible 2-door 4.1l on 2040-cars
Tomball, Texas, United States

1984 was the first year that an option of RPO-YP8 was offered from the factory on the Cadillac Eldorado via the dealerships. Cadillac didn't actually build the convertibles in-house and, instead, contracted ASC/McLaren to convert the cars to fulfill the orders received via the dealers.
ASC is best known for being the same company that built the Buick GNX and special edition Ford Mustang, in addition to many other specialty-optioned cars. ASC also pioneered and developed the factory sunroof for most American cars. There were 3,300 produced in 1984 and only 2,300 in 1985. Most of the cars were ordered with nearly every single dealer option prior to being delivered to ASC. Some of the notable examples were an upgraded, heavier version of the "touring suspension," to compensate for the extra weight of the convertible as well as a 3:15 axle ratio to make it a bit quicker. It also features a heavy duty cooling system that has an upgraded intercooler for the engine and transmission. The only 2 options that the Convertibles could not get were the Bose sound system and memory seats. The buttons that would control the seats were, instead, used to lower the rear windows and the Bose package featuring enlarged speakers was omitted due to the fact there was no room in the rear for the larger speakers due to the convertible mechanisms. The car also received several modifications to reinforce the frame, subframe and support beams. This makes the underbody of the convertible more durable than the coupe as well as create a near 50/50 weight distribution. This particular car is originally from California and wears its original dealer bezel from Symes Cadillac around the license plate. At a staggeringly low 32,334 miles, (a few may be added prior to the sale due to weekend cruising) this car is virtually new. There are a few flaws to the car, however. The most noticeable is that the bumper fillers are missing; they succumbed to dry rot and haven't been replaced yet. Other faults include a few minor tears in the driver's side arm rest and a bad muffler. Otherwise, there is no rust on this car. You can see, via the spots where the bumper fillers go, that there is no rust behind any of the panels and that the car is as solid as when it left the factory. The paint is original to the car and it has never been repainted; barring the touch-up work that ASC did after they cut the roof off of the car when they built it. It runs and drives like a Cadillac should. The brakes were recently redone and the tires replaced before it made the trip down from Wisconsin. I have full receipts for around $2,000.00 worth of brake work to verify this. It has a clean Wisconsin title and is located in Tomball, TX; always stored indoors with the top up. The pictures speak for the quality of this car. It's nearly all original with only rubber components (belts, hoses, tires, etc) and brake parts being replaced. It's hard to find a car from this era in this condition, let alone one with so few miles. I have significantly lowered the reserve and, if the car doesn't sell this time, there will be no more eBay listings. I have the car listed locally on Craigslist and reserve the right to end the listing early if I get an acceptable offer. |

GM winding down Chevrolet brand in Europe
Thu, 05 Dec 2013If you've taken even a cursory look at GM's European strategy and wondered how it can target the market there with both Chevrolet and Opel/Vauxhall, you're not alone. In fact General Motors itself has found it difficult to justify the two-pronged approach. That's why it's essentially pulling Chevy from the European marketplace.
Instead of trying to ply European buyers with what are mostly former Daewoo products rebadged as Chevys, GM will now let Opel (or Vauxhall in the UK) represent its mass-market aspirations. Chevrolet will keep its presence in Russia and other former Soviet markets, and will continue selling certain niche products in Eastern and Western Europe. The Corvette, for example, has long been sold in Europe through Cadillac dealerships, which for its part is currently "finalizing plans for expanding in the European market".
While the shift in strategy is expected to help GM get a stronger foothold in the European market in the long run, in the short term the restructuring will cost it dearly: between $700 million and $1 billion, according to its own estimates, split between the last quarter of this year and the first half of the next. GM says EVs are the future — but trucks are going to take it there
Fri, Jan 11 2019In the PowerPoint deck for the General Motors Capital Markets Day presentation, one of the more disturbing things comes early on, during GM President Mark Reuss' initial remarks, in an area where he is discussing the company's overall strength in trucks. The point being made is that GM has a truck for all and sundry. And there it is, a phrase on a slide that should send chills up the spines of those who still pine for the old Bob Seger "Like a Rock" Silverado ads: "Little bit country. Little bit rock 'n' roll." That's right. Donny and Marie. Somehow the Denis Leary snark in the F-150 ads is all the more appealing. The Capital Markets Day presentation was chock full of observations about electrification and automation (Reuss and CEO Mary Barra both noted that the corporation's vision is one of "Zero Crashes. Zero Emissions. Zero Congestion." Dan Ammann talked about the progress being made at Cruise Automation; Reuss rolled out the plan for an array of electrified vehicles, with a luxury EV and a compact SUV being the "Centroid Entries" for the modular bases of many others). But it is worth noting that there is no getting away from the power of pickups in the U.S. market, as that was the central topic in Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara's comments, with "Truck Franchise" being flanked by "Key Financial Priorities" and "Financial Outlook." Clearly, to gloss the old phrase, the truck segment is where the money is. Suryadevra enumerated how the truck segment is significantly different than other types of light vehicles. Among her points: GM, Ford and FCA have more than 90% of market share. The truck parc has been growing and aging over the past 10 years. Customers are fiercely loyal to the segment—as in 70% of truck buyers are truck buyers. A good number of the vehicles are for commercial use (40 percent). Trucks are "less prone to. . .mobility disruption." Trucks offer high margins. Translaton: The segment is one that they're solidly positioned in. There are lots of old trucks on the road that will need to be replaced by new ones. Perhaps buyers may switch from a Sierra to a Canyon, but it will be a truck. If your livelihood depends on that type of vehicle, even if gas prices go up or the economy begins to go south, you're going to stick with it. Most of the country isn't San Francisco, so trucks will continue to be essential. And, well, they're profitable in the extreme.
This dream home theater and office happens to be in a Cadillac Escalade [w/video]
Fri, Dec 19 2014Need to take a ride cross country in the lap of luxury while still getting some work done? Short of a tour bus, the Concept One Curve from Lexani Motorcars might be one of the most comfy options imaginable. Lexani is usually known for creating opulent armored vehicles, but for the Concept One Curve it focuses on converting a 2015 Cadillac Escalade into a place for work or play. The company strips out the standard passenger compartment to install a higher ceiling with LED lighting, two leather-upholstered power captain's chairs and jump seats. However, the real highlight is a 48-inch curved 4K television mounted against the driver's partition. Don't worry about missing your favorite shows because there's a TracVision Satellite, too. The driver gets a re-covered seat of their own up front. If business needs to get done, the vehicle also includes a Mac Mini computer, tables stowed in the seats and connections for video conferencing. Of course, if you're riding in something this lavish, security might be a concern too. In addition to the window shades, the Concept One Curve features cameras to know what's going on outside. A touchscreen management system lets occupants control the whole setup from the luxurious chairs. Lexani claims that if all of this somehow isn't enough for a buyer, it offers even more options to fit their needs. Scroll down to watch a video tour and read more about this rolling home theater. {C} Lexani Concept One Curve Lexani Motorcars, a boutique luxury conversion company receiving vast international praise, has produced the Concept One Curve - the world's first 2015 Escalade with a built-in 48" 4K Technology Curved Smart TV. Lexani Motorcars is constantly pushing the boundaries of possibility for luxury transportation in everyday vehicles. The Curve is a revisited version of their latest model, the Concept One, with a television upgrade and electronic rear curtains; it is unmatched in its ability to be a premier theater one minute and a five-star mobile office the next. The curved smart TV-which rests on a proprietary electronic partition-is indeed impressive, but it is just one of the numerous amenities this discreet masterpiece boasts.
