1979 Cadillac Eldorado Base Coupe 2-door 5.7l on 2040-cars
Bay Shore, New York, United States
1979 CADILLAC ELDORADO 2-DOOR COUPE YOU ARE LOOKING AT A 1979 ELDORADO. THE 1979 IS A VERY SOUGHT AFTER YEAR WITH THIS SPECIFIC CAR BECAUSE IT HAS A 350 CUBIC INCH STEEL BLOCK ENGINE AND IT IS ALSO THE VERY FIRST YEAR OF THIS BODY STYLE. THIS ENGINE IS ONLY FOUND IN THE 1979 ELDORADO. IT IS NOT ONE OF THE TROUBLESOME HT 4100 ALUMINUM BLOCK ENGINES FOUND IN THE 1982-1985 BODY STYLE. THIS CAR IS NOT AT ALL PERFECT BUT I AM GOING TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST WITH THE DESCRIPTION. THIS CAR IS A VERY DESIRABLE TRIPLE WHITE, WHICH MEANS WHITE EXTERIOR PAINT, WHITE INTERIOR LEATHER, AND A WHITE ONE QUARTER LANDAU ROOF. WHAT MAKES THIS CAR VERY VERY RARE IS THAT IT HAS BLACK RUGS AND A BLACK DASH, SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT FIND VERY OFTEN IN THESE ELDORADO MODELS. I HAVE DONE A COMPLETE NEW WHITE INTERIOR IN THIS CAR WITH BLACK PIPING AND GOLD EMBROIDERED CADILLAC EMBLEMS ON BOTH FRONT SEATS AND BOTH REAR SEATS. THERE IS A BRAND NEW BLACK RUG AND A BRAND NEW BRIGHT WHITE HEADLINER AND BRIGHT WHITE QUARTER SAILS ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO CRACKS IN THE BLACK DASHBOARD AND THE REAR SIDE ARMREST AND THE FRONT DOOR ARMREST ALSO HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY DONE. THERE IS A BRAND NEW WHITE (ELK GRAIN) QUARTER PADDED ROOF ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR ADORNED WITH GOLD EMBLEMS. THE CAR'S ENGINE HAD 176,000 MILES ON IT - IT HAS SINCE BEEN REBUILT AND THE NEW REBUILT ENGINE HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT. THERE IS A BRAND NEW BATTERY, BRAND NEW CAP, ROTOR, AND WIRES AND 8 NEW PLUGS. THERE IS ALSO A BRAND NEW FUEL PUMP. THE CAR RUNS SMOOTH AND STRONG. THE EXTERIOR PAINT IS WHITE AND GLOSSY BUT NOT PERFECT. IT SHOWS EXTREMELY WELL. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BROKEN FILLER PIECES ON THE CAR. I HAVE BRAND NEW FILLER PIECES IN THE TRUNK TO GIVE TO YOU ALONG WITH A BRAND NEW POWER ANTENNA THAT WILL ALSO GO WITH THE CAR. THE NEGATIVES WITH THIS CAR ARE THAT IT IS IN NEED OF A POWER DOOR LOCK MOTOR, POWER WINDOW MOTOR AND IT HAS A NON WORKING A/C. THIS CAR SHOULD NOT NEED MORE THAN $1,200 WORTH OF TLC, WHICH INCLUDES PAINTING AND INSTALLING THE FILLER PIECES (WHICH ARE INCLUDED) , FIXING THE A/C, AND INSTALL OF THE POWER RADIO ANTENNA (WHICH IS ALSO INCLUDED). ALL 4 TIRES ARE GOOD WITH MUCH TREAD AND ALL 4 WIRE WHEEL HUBCAPS ARE ON THE CAR. THIS CAR WAS A PROJECT OF MINE WHICH I NOW NEED TO SELL BECAUSE I WANT TO USE THIS MONEY TOWARDS THE RESTORATION OF MY 1967 ELDORADO. THIS CAR WILL BE SOLD AT A VERY VERY LOW PRICE, SO BID WITH CONFIDENCE AND BID TO WIN BECAUSE THIS TRIPLE WHITE BEAUTY COULD BE YOURS. THIS CAR LIKE ALL USED CARS OF THIS AGE ON EBAY DOES NOT COME WITH A WARRANTY SO PLEASE READ EVERTHING I HAVE WRITTEN IN THIS LISTING VERY CAREFULLY AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE. THANK YOU. |

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. GM laying off more than 4,000 workers Monday morning
Sat, Feb 2 2019According to reports from Automotive News, The Detroit News, and CNN, General Motors plans to begin laying off more than 4,000 salaried workers starting Monday morning. In a statement to AN, a spokesperson for the automaker said, "We are not confirming timing. Our employees are our priority. We will communicate with them first." We've been expecting layoffs at General Motors since November, 2018. At the time, the Detroit-based automaker announced it would seek to shed 8,100 salaried employees, shut down five assembly plants in North America, and kill off several slow-selling models. One month earlier, GM offered buyout packages to 18,000 workers and said it would seek to cut its global workforce by 25 percent. A spokesperson said at the time the moves were "proactive steps to get ahead of the curve by accelerating our efforts to address overall business performance." The cost-cutting moves are expected to save GM up to $2.5 billion in 2019 and as much as $6 billion by 2020. David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist of Mainstay Capital Management, referred to the impending culling as "Black Monday" and told The Detroit News that the layoffs would begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue in waves throughout the coming days and weeks. GM plans to deliver on its fourth-quarter and full-year 2018 earnings report on Wednesday. President Donald Trump plans to deliver the annual State of the Union address a day earlier on Tuesday. We expect to hear plenty more from both sides over the next several days.
Cadillac's Super Cruise — look, Elon, no hands!
Fri, Aug 4 2017Cadillac is about to start selling vehicles with an autonomous driving mode and TechCrunch got an early look at the technology in a production car. "Wait for the green light and let go," the Cadillac engineer instructed. That's it. The car was driving itself. I, the person behind the steering wheel, was no longer the driver. Cadillac's Super Cruise system was driving. The 2018 Cadillac CT6 sped along U.S. 23 under the direction of Super Cruise. Traffic was light and the weather was perfect. The system held the Cadillac sedan in lane and responded appropriately to traffic. I spent an hour on the expressway and touched the steering wheel and pedals only a few times. Super Cruise made the drive boring. I think that's the point. Here's how it works Super Cruise is available once the driver navigates the vehicle onto an expressway. When ready, a little icon is displayed by the speedometer and the driver hits a button on the steering wheel to switch it on. Once the light bar on top of the steering wheel turns green, the driver can let go. Super Cruise is driving. This steering wheel light bar is key to the operation. When green, the driver knows Super Cruise is in control. Blue means the driver interrupted the system to change lanes and red means Super Cruise needs the driver to confirm they're paying attention and not checking Twitter. When active, Super Cruise controls the steering and speed, but again, only on an expressway. This is done through onboard sensors and using GPS and mapping data. GM employed GeoDigital, a startup in GM Venture's portfolio, to map 160,000 miles of expressways in the U.S. and Canada. The car company then used Super Cruise-equipped vehicles to test each mile. This combination of onboard systems combined with map data makes the system feel polished and sophisticated. During my admittedly limited time in the vehicle, the CT6 precisely held its position in the lane and confidently handled sweeping curves at speed. There was no wiggling or squirming — from the Cadillac or myself. The car was in control, and I felt safe. Although the driving conditions were perfect for my test ride, during adverse weather, the system will work normally until one of the key systems is unable to operate.
