1971 Cadillac Eldorado Base Convertible 2-door 8.2l on 2040-cars
Masury, Ohio, United States
You are looking at a rare investment grade Eldorado 1 of 1600. Want to know why? Let me share with you the long and short of this vehicle. I purchased this vehicle for my father as his 60th birthday gift. I sought out a rust free car and when it comes to these cars, that is a task. I found this car in Schaumburg, IL and had it shipped to my home in Ohio. After looking at it and the months I had before his birthday I decided I wasn’t satisfied with the interior or the top. So I spent thousands replacing the carpet, mats, leather, and top. That was just the beginning. If you are considering purchasing one of these vehicles and you choose not to buy this one, I hope you have a fist full of cash! All of the money has already been spent and I have the receipts to document every penny. New carburetor, fan clutch, fan shroud, POA valve, air conditioner compressor, 4 new tires, alignment, wiper blades, battery, alternator, belts, heater core, thermostat, drive axles, AC receiver drier, master cylinder, plugs, wires. I’ve established that the interior is new, the exterior is obviously sweet. Well the underside looks just as good. More money was spent there with Por 15, which is a rust inhibitor, look it up. Included is a book full of all receipts, photographs of what has been done, a $300 custom car cover. This is not a museum piece, but it is far from a “20-footer.” It is in excellent overall condition. Number matching original car that has less than 80,000 miles on it. My dad gave the car back to me about a year ago because he doesn't drive it and only has a one car garage. It just sets in my garage under a cover. I change the oil every six months and drive it about every other month just to put a smile on my face. I am not a mechanic, but I can tell you that I know of absolutely nothing mechanically wrong with this car. Every dollar spent on it mechanically was performed by an ASE certified automotive technician. Forgetting about how rare the car is and I will get to that in a minute, do your research. The reserve on this car is well below high retail and if there was ever a car that deserved high retail, this is one. You can look at cars at fancy dealers who will put lipstick on these cars and ask for top dollar. All of the money that was spent on this car, you will probably have to spend on one if you don’t buy this one or one from somebody who has the documentation that it has already been done. As for the rarity of the car: After setting a new production record in 1970, Cadillac Division was looking forward to another good year in 1971, especially since every model in the line was completely restyled. But that was not to be. Just about the time the 1971 models were announced in late September 1970, the United Auto Workers Union went on strike. The nationwide strike hit General Motors hard and lasted three months. In mid-December, the strike was settled and the assembly lines began moving again. Only 1,600 Eldorado convertibles were built after the strike ended. Only the 1,600 Eldorado’s built after the strike had only two columns of lovers on each side across the trunk, with solid metal towards the center of the trunk. This is one of those 1,600. Original Cadillac 8 track and bug deflector, both pretty rare. Bid with confidence, this car is right. On Jul-20-14 at 15:05:08 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I BUSTED HER OUT AND GAVE HER A QUICK WASH. Actual mileage is 72704. I can tell you after a quick wash, she needs a real wash. Like buff and polish the paint wash. I am not taking that on this week! IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS BIDDER AND A HINT THE RESERVE IS A LITTLE OVER 16k AND YOU WANT TO SEE OVER 130 PICTURES OF THIS CAR, EMAIL ME I HAVE THEM ALL ON A PDF. KARLKAMPLAIN@GMAIL.COM |

The 2016 Pebble Beach Concept Lawn was nuts as always
Mon, Aug 22 2016The Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is like the smallest, most expensive car show you can imagine. A bunch of unobtanium concepts and almost-production models line an irregularly shaped putting green for people to stare at while on their way to see other, older insane cars. This year's crop was a particularly good one. We'll walk through the gallery above in order: That's a new Ford GT. Not quite a concept, but it's not in production yet, so we'll let it slide. Then there's the one-of-a-kind Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo that was recently bought by a Saudi Prince along with a matching Chiron. Next up is the Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, which was unveiled last week and is already sold out. This orange automobile is BMW's 2002 Hommage with its latest livery, a Jagermeister-themed affair called Turbomeister. This silver Infiniti, the Q80 Inspiration Concept, is an oldie but a goodie. It first appeared in Paris in 2014. The extremely long automobile after that is the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which was unveiled in Monterey this year. The 6 in the name is because it's 6 meters, or about 18 feet, long. Most of that's the hood. Next we have the one-of-99 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato coupe, which continues to be beautiful. After that is a Fisker Karma with a V8, the VLF Destino. Thank you, Bob Lutz. The black sedan you see after that is the Cadillac Escala Concept, which also made its debut in Monterey this year. Then we have a Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge. Not a concept, but exclusive enough to join the others. Next is the McLaren 570GT customized by MSO that arrived for Pebble 2016. It has special design touches plus an electrochromic panel to replace the normal glass roof. The light blue car is the Genesis New York concept. The name didn't change even though it was in Monterey. Then we have the large and in charge Lincoln Navigator concept, taking up two regulation concept spots. The red car with suicide doors is Acura's Precision Concept, which we first saw at the Detroit show this year. Another non-concept, the Lexus LC 500h at least looks futuristic enough to be a show-specific car. And here's a 2017 Maserati Quattroporte, which is definitely not a concept. A Bentley Mulsanne EWB, because why not? It's not available in the US, so that almost qualifies for concept status. Then there's a reproduction Lister Knobbly, which we could stare at all day.
GM CEO Akerson calls out Tesla, says Cadillac will compete on EVs
Tue, 24 Sep 2013Cadillac will be taking on Tesla Motors, the underdog EV manufacturer that's seen heaps of critical acclaim and stock market buzz with its most recent sedan, the Model S. "If you want to compete head-to-head with Tesla, and we ultimately will, you want to do it with a Cadillac," Dan Akerson, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, told media in Washington, according to The Detroit News.
Akerson continued, telling The News, "We'll sell more Volts and lose less money on the Volts than they'll lose on the Model S." He also took time to point out that Tesla getting vehicles out to customers isn't a guarantee of success or permanence, using Fisker as an example, saying "Does anybody even remember Fisker? I mean, there were a number of them; they are all gone."
This strong talk from Akerson comes after Doug Parks, another GM exec, let slip that the Detroit-based manufacturer has an EV in the works that will cover 200 miles per charge and only cost about $30,000, a massive upgrade over similarly priced EVs that struggle to top 100 miles per charge. Until that vehicle arrives, though, GM is preparing the Cadillac ELR, a small coupe that, like the Volt with which it shares technology, uses a gas engine as a mobile generator to recharge the batteries. Akerson took aim at Tesla again, saying, "But I do think when the ELR comes out late this year, early next - it's certainly the same postal code as Tesla, but now we're going to move up. It's not going to be a mass-produced car."
Cadillac's CEO on Apple CarPlay: ’extremely clunky’
Thu, Jan 18 2018In this new world of advanced in-car infotainment and connectivity, car and tech companies alike are creating interfaces with mixed success. Apparently one system has annoyed Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen enough he's openly griping about it. In an interview with our friends at Yahoo Finance, the CEO had a number of complaints about Apple CarPlay, a system that, along with Android Auto, is rapidly becoming a staple of automotive infotainment. Though he acknowledged the system's potential, de Nysschen said CarPlay "is extremely clunky." He highlighted issues he's had with Apple Maps reacting too slowly for turn-by-turn navigation on the highway, app transitions that weren't smooth, and some quirks he found when using voice commands. While we won't say Apple CarPlay is perfect by any means, we're also not so sure it's deserving of such high-profile criticism, particularly from Cadillac. This is because Cadillac's own infotainment system CUE, has not been loved by those of us at Autoblog. And while Cadillac has announced it has a new version of CUE that might fix our issues with it, it's not exactly rolling it out expediently. So before ripping on other infotainment, de Nysschen, maybe make sure your own system in order. Related Video:
