THERE ARE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE TOP AND WINDOWS. THERE ARE RUST ISSUES ON THE SIDES, BUT THE FLOORS AND FRAME ARE IN GOOD RUST FREE CONDITION."

1966 CADILLAC DEVILLE CONVERTIBLE.  THIS IS A RUNNING, DRIVING, CADILLAC.  I HAVE A CLEAR TITLE IN MY NAME. IT SHIFTS SMOOTHLY, AND STOPS AS IT SHOULD.  THE ENGINE SOUNDS GOOD, BUT SMOKES WHEN FIRST STARTED.  IT HAS POWER WINDOWS, POWER TOP, AND POWER SEATS.  SOME OF THE WINDOWS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, AND THE POWER TOP DOES NOT WORK.  THE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, HORN, AND POWER STEERING WORK PROPERLY.  THE AIR CONDITIONING IS COMPLETE, BUT DOES NOT WORK.  THERE ARE RUST ISSUES ON BOTH SIDES THAT IS CLEARLY SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS. ALL OF THE GLASS, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL REAR WINDOW GLASS, IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL OF THE PHOTOS.  I WANT TO BE SURE ALL BIDDERS KNOW EXACTLY THE CONDITION OF MY CADILLAC.  WITH THIS IN MIND I WILL ATTEMPT TO DETAIL THE PROBLEM AREAS:

1. THE FLOORS AND FRAME ARE DRY AND RUST FREE, BUT THE SIDE BODY PANELS AND TRUNK HAVE RUST BUBBLES SHOWING THROUGH THE ORIGINAL PAINT.  (AGAIN LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PHOTOS)
2. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDS ATTENTION.  THE POWER WINDOWS AND TOP DO NOT WORK PROPERLY.  THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WINDOW WORKS AS IT SHOULD.  THERE IS A NEW SET OF POWER TOP RUBBER SEALS, AND USED POWER WINDOW MOTORS THAT COME WITH THE CAR.
3. THE CENTER CENTER SECTION OF THE GRILLE HAS BEEN DAMAGED.  BOTH SIDE SECTIONS OF THE GRILLE ARE GOOD.  THERE IS A MINOR DENT ON ONE SIDE OF THE REAR PANEL, ABOUT THE SIZE OF MY HAND.   OVER ALL THE BODY IS STRAIGHT.
4. I RECENTLY DROVE THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES IN 95 DEGREE HEAT, IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND THE ENGINE DID NOT OVERHEAT.  AS I MENTIONED, THE ENGINE SMOKES.  I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS BECAUSE THE CAR HAS SET FOR A LONG TIME, OR IF IT NEEDS A RING AND VALVE JOB.
5.  THE INTERIOR, PARTICULARLY THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR PANEL, NEEDS ATTENTION.  THE FRONT SEAT ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, BUT THE REAR SEAT APPEAR TO SUN DAMAGE.  THERE IS A BOLT OF ORIGINAL SEAT MATERIAL THAT COMES WITH THE CAR.  A TONNEAU COVER FOR THE TOP BOOT IS ALSO INCLUDED.

A $500 PAYPAL DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE CLOSE OF THE AUCTION, UNLESS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS ARE MADE.  PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME TO END THE AUCTION EARLY.  IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 5 POSITIVE EBAY FEEDBACKS, PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING.  I WANT THIS TO BE A GOOD, STRAIGHT FORWARD, AUCTION.

Frustrated GM investors ask what more Mary Barra can do

Mon, Oct 22 2018

DETROIT — General Motors Co Chief Executive Mary Barra has transformed the No. 1 U.S. automaker in her almost five years in charge, but that is still not enough to satisfy investors. Ahead of third-quarter results due on Oct. 31, GM shares are trading about 6 percent below the $33 per share price at which they launched in 2010 in a post-bankruptcy initial public offering. The Detroit carmaker's stock is down 22 percent since Barra took over in January 2014. After hitting an all-time high of $46.48 on Oct. 24, 2017, the shares have declined 33 percent. In the same period, the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 7.8 percent. Several shareholders contacted by Reuters said GM could face a third major action by activist shareholders in less than four years if the share price does not improve. "I've been expecting it," said John Levin, chairman of Levin Capital Strategies. "It just seems a tempting morsel to somebody." Levin's firm owns more than seven million GM shares. Barra has guided the company through the settlement of a federal criminal probe of a mishandled safety recall, sold off money-losing European operations, and returned $25 billion to shareholders through dividends and stock buybacks from 2012 through 2017. GM declined to comment for this story, but the company's executives privately express frustration with the market's reluctance to see it as anything more than a manufacturer tied mainly to auto market sales cycles. GM's profitable North American truck and SUV business and its money-making China operations are valued at just $14 billion, excluding the value of GM's stake in its $14.6 billion Cruise automated vehicle business and its cash reserves from its $44 billion market capitalization. The recent slump in the Chinese market, GM's largest, and plateauing U.S. demand are ratcheting up the pressure. GM is one of the few global automakers without a founding family or a government to serve as a bulwark against corporate raiders. In 2015, a group led by investor Harry Wilson pressed GM to launch a $5 billion share buyback, and commit to what is now an $18 billion ceiling on the level of cash the company would hold. In 2017, GM fended off a call by hedge fund manager David Einhorn to split its common stock shares into two classes. Einhorn, whose firm still owned more than 21 million shares at the end of June, declined to comment about GM's stock price. Other investors said there were no clear alternatives to Barra's approach.

Here's what else you could buy for the average new-car price of $40,573

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. The average price of a new car in America hit a new record in December 2020: $40,573. Not that we're surprised — the average has been over $35,000 for the past few years — but seeing that baseline figure crest 40 large is still a sticker-shock to the system. So, as we do every once in a while, we put our collective heads together and came up with a list of alternatives that you could choose to buy for that sum, new or old, classic or practical. Now, let's be crystal clear about one thing here. We're not actually recommending you make this type of decision. That said, we wouldn't blame you if you did. Managing Editor Greg Rasa: $40,000 will buy a fully loaded Camry or moderately equipped crossover. Or, for $39,997, to be exact, one could go motoring in a fine British automobile. This 2006 Aston Martin DB9 Volante in Alabama has 21,452 miles on it, and depreciation has worked its cruel magic: It is listed for less than one-quarter of its $168,000 starting MSRP when it was new. A check of other used DB9s nationwide indicates this is a fair price. This Aston's CarFax reveals two owners. (One, really, as the second was a dealership. Looks like it got traded in for a Porsche.) If you're understandably concerned about reliability, its service history indicates no surprises to date. Remember, it has a 450-horsepower 5.9-liter V12. And spring is coming. Of course a used Aston Martin is riskier than a new Camry. But as Louis Prima sang, "Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think." What price beauty? Less than $40 grand. Associate Editor Byron Hurd: This price point opens up a ton of options in the "nearly new" luxury space, including a few good enthusiast picks, but my nod here goes to the Cadillac ATS-V. The discontinued, M3/M4-rivaling, 465-horsepower sport sedan and coupe can be had all day long in this price range with low miles. In fact, the real challenge is finding one in the spec you want, since it's one of those old-fashioned cars that actually presented the buyer with choices. Here's a clean, six-speed sedan in an actual color for less than our target price, for example. Coupes are more plentiful than sedans, especially in interesting colors, but there are plenty of them out there.

Weekly Recap: Lincoln Continental serves up the style, Cadillac CT6 delivers the substance in New York

Sat, Apr 4 2015

Lincoln and Cadillac grabbed the spotlight this week at the New York Auto Show in a dramatic fashion that evoked the brands' glory days. America's two luxury carmakers went toe-to-toe with their glittering reveals and plans for ambitious expansion. Both were selling their technology, style and the promise of a better future. Cadillac vs. Lincoln. At the Javits Center, 2015 seemed a lot like 1956. Neither company was interested in drawing comparisons with the other, which is fair, and accurate. They're in vastly different places in terms of sales and the pace of their turnarounds, but they hope to reach the same eventual destination at the pinnacle of the luxury-car world. Lincoln used the element of surprise to great effect with the Continental concept. A production version is still at least a year away, and the company was vague on details. Officially, we don't even know if it is front- or rear-wheel drive, though speculation abounds. Who cares? The seats can be adjusted 30 ways! The Continental also showed off a bold chrome grille that will be the new face of Lincoln. The blue bomber also rolled on blinged-out 21-inch polished aluminum wheels, used a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine and had huge LED head lights with "laser-assisted" high beams. All of this resulted in almost blinding attention. The concept drew rave reviews, stirred controversy with Bentley designers who argued Lincoln ripped them off, and most importantly, pointed a way forward for the newly determined brand that hopes to compete with Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Cadillac and Lexus. View 32 Photos Meanwhile, Cadillac showed the CT6, a finished product that will top its range and is loaded with the best and latest technologies General Motors has at its disposal. With production starting late this year, Cadillac had more specifics at the ready. Engines? Cadillac has a couple V6s and a turbo four for sure. It's working on a hybrid, and has considered a V-Series variant. It's based on a new rear-wheel-drive, aluminum-intensive chassis called Omega, features an advanced collision-mitigation system with automatic braking and has a cabin that's laden with "leathers, exotic woods and carbon fiber." It will be assembled at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck factory and goes on sale next year. At this point, Cadillac is more than willing to talk about every except for the price. The devil was not in the details for Cadillac, as evidenced by the CT6. But it wasn't for Lincoln either.
