Know-How Ultimate Town Car The 1969 Deville took many styling cues from the successful and critically acclaimed El Dorado from 1967. This vehicle is loaded with V-Shapes, angles and lens work that were dropped just one year later – what a shame. The hood and trunk come together in a “V” shape. Views from above demonstrate “V’s” at the end of the front and rear fenders. The rear tail light lenses and bezels are a study in industrial design and again abound with the shape that puts the V in Deville. The Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac family crest is proudly on display all over this vehicle. The trunk lock cover snaps open with the weight and quality of all trim work on this car – heavy and purposeful. The Cadillac logo is also the center piece of the wheel covers that suit this car so well -- another industrial design achievement of the brand that ruled the road with so much authority at the time. Fins & Flair (Link to more photos) The front turn signal bezels hold lenses with vertical bevels etched into them. Each one is a stand-out piece of rolling art. Together, they almost give a chandelier effect. The same is true for the rear tail lights. The front head lights were integrated into the grill for 1969 which allowed for the very rare and highly stylized turn signals. In 1970 these lenses were gone for good. https://www.flickr.com/photos/105315473@N02/ Float Like a Butterfly Cadillac engineers of the time must have had a goal relating to fingertip control of an immense mass of rolling metal. That’s just what this car begs of the driver. The arm rest on each side is comfortable and the overall feel and nature of the driver’s cabin encourages reaching highway speeds and keeping this beauty rolling with just a couple of fingertips on the wheel. Maybe the typical distractions of the time required occupied hands? This may just be the longest hood on a production car of all time. It was lengthened 8.5" in 1968 to accommodate the space-age recessed "hidden" wipers. They extended it 2.5" in 1969 just for good measure. Similarly, the waist line of the Deville was “raised” for 1968. This was to provide the rear passengers more “privacy”. A quaint sentiment to say the least, but another industrial design cue indicative of a time long past and one we will likely never see again. What exactly was going on in those back seats anyways? Ah, the stories they must hold! Restored for Parading About This vehicle underwent a full restoration in the mid 1990’s. The owner of the car had a passion for Cadillac’s and restored one white one and one black one for each of his sons. They stayed in his possession for quite some time and were only used in parades in his small home town. He feels this one has less that 1,000 miles sense the restoration. The intended recipient of the black one simply never came along proper storage for the vehicle. The father is now quite advanced in age and needed to let it go. It was restored to very presentable driver condition. The paint has held up well, but is not of concours quality – was not meant to be. The interior shows some wear, but again has held up nicely. The passenger side rear inside door panel has a few cracks. Of all interior work, this is probably the most pressing should you decide to take it up a notch. The white vinyl top has also held up well. There are a couple of small imperfections near the rear window on the passenger side (see photo). The owner during restoration decided to pull the motors for the power top. It wasn’t going to be used often enough to need it. So, the power top is not functioning. He said the wiring is all there so, it should be as easy as sourcing a motor to get it running again. He also did not bother to fill the air conditioner with Freon. The compressor sets right on top of the engine and seems to spin and work just fine. There is a brand new exhaust system including muffler. She purrs like a kitten – albeit a very large
kitten! Pretty important function for
such a stately car. BTW, mileage is what it read on odometer. The previous owner could not verify even back in the 90's when he restored it. Cadillac goes white-out on social media as prelude to Oscars announcement [w/video]
Fri, Feb 13 2015Cadillac appears to be in a very odd place at the moment. On one hand, Johan De Nysschen is pushing the company towards a much more luxurious image that includes converting 700 dealers into boutiques, and a blitz of new products is also supposed to be on the way in the coming years. However, at the moment sales aren't necessarily keeping pace with production, and there are reportedly heavy incentives available on some models. Now, we're seeing the earliest hint at the next strike in the brand's strategy as its social media presence goes white across the web. Go check out Cadillac's official pages on the major social media hubs, and all you can find is blank space. There's just a period on Twitter, a blank box on Facebook, another one on Instagram and the company logo is even gone from Pinterest. Perhaps most bizarre is YouTube, where Caddy is showing five minutes of absolutely nothing (embedded below) with no sound at all. The video description is only a period. All of this nothingness is supposed to be a lead-up to Cadillac unveiling a completely new advertising campaign during the Oscars on February 22. This method of blanking everything out beforehand could suggest a minimal, to-the-point message in the future. While it wouldn't be shocking for a few teasers to come out in the meantime, Caddy is keeping quite a secret before the big reveal.
2016 Cadillac ATS-V First Drive [w/video]
Sun, Apr 26 2015If you get hot and bothered for hot-rodded sedans and coupes, you probably know that Germans have long dominated that cutthroat scene. For years, the Audi RS/BMW M/Mercedes-AMG triumvirate has ruled the microcosm of grunty, mid-level luxury cars. But a funny thing happened when Cadillac's first V car hit the market in 2004. Since the CTS-V crashed the high horsepower party, German tuning houses started thinking less about the "Daddy's Caddy" stereotypes and more about the next imminent threat – in this case, the inevitable high-horsepower spinoff of the smaller, nimbler Cadillac ATS. The standard ATS' defense against the German triad hasn't been triumphant so far (GM's Michigan plant was idled for three weeks in 2014 due to excess inventory), but the souped-up 2016 Cadillac ATS-V presents a fresh bid to put the Teutonic competition on alert. The ATS-V's flared bodywork and quad exhaust pipes offer bits of visual shock and awe, but significant hardware upgrades back up the go-fast looks. Front and center is a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V6 with reworked internals including a charge-air cooler, titanium connecting rods, and titanium-aluminide turbines. The new engine produces 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, up a staggering 262 hp and 173 lb-ft compared to a base, four-cylinder ATS. Those output figures eclipse the BMW M3/M4 (425 hp, 406 lb-ft) and Audi RS5 (450 hp, 317 lb-ft), but lag slightly behind the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG C63 (476 hp, 479 lb-ft), and more so the C63 S (503 hp, 516 lb-ft). The chassis benefits from several structural braces, most notably a shear panel intended to boost front-end stiffness. Extra poundage from the add-ons are minimized through lighter-weight materials – in the case of the shear panel, stamped aluminum. Cadillac says though it intended to make the ATS the quickest car in its segment (stated 0-60 mph times between 3.8 and 3.9 second virtually match the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63 S' 3.9 figure), the development team says they also focused on subjective qualities like turn-in quickness and steering response. As such, toe links have been replaced with ball joints, mounts have been retuned, and reworked magnetic damping offer greater responsiveness. Six suspension bushings have been stiffened and ten have been completely redesigned, and the Performance Traction Management system that tames beasts like the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 also helps lay down power in the ATS-V.

Tue, Sep 30 2014A Kentucky man has converted his 1939 Dodge pickup to an electric vehicle. Al Gajda of Lexington built the electric truck, which he now uses as his daily driver. "I take advantage of any excuse to drive it; just banging around town, errands, short runs on the interstate, delivering my granddaughter to school in the morning," he says. It is powered by a lithium-ion phosphate battery, which is mounted in a wooden box on the truck bed, and gets about 100 miles per charge. Read more at the Lexington Herald-Leader. Elon Musk will speak at the Automotive News World Congress in January. The Tesla CEO is a featured speaker for the program, "Setting the Pace in a Thriving Market." Production of the Toyota Rav4 EV has ended. The shipment of the final Toyota EVs concludes Toyota's deal to source batteries from Tesla. Cadillac will likely show an improved version of the ELR at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The 2016 ELR will include unspecified "engineering enhancements," according to Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell. Uber executives, along with Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, have announced a major expansion of the ride-hailing company's Chicago headquarters. Uber also plans to add 420 jobs by the end of 2016. "Uber's new expanded headquarters will allow the company to continue its rapid growth and serve its riders and drivers throughout Illinois," says Governor Quinn.
