I AM NOT PARTICULARLY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT DOING THIS LISTING FOR MY 1966 CALAIS COUPE. YOU SEE, I HAVE A SMALL COLLECTION OF CLASSIC CARS AND I'VE BEEN DRIVING MY CADILLAC HERE FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS AS MY DAILY DRIVER TO MAKE SURE IT GETS EXERCISED PROPERLY, AND EVERY DAY I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT I FALL DEEPER AND DEEPER IN LOVE, SO THAT UNLESS I MAKE A SALE EFFORT, I WILL END UP KEEPING IT FOREVER. THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL, BUT STORAGE BECOMES AN ISSUE WHEN YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH TOO MANY CARS. WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE. SO HERE IT IS UP FOR SALE, AND ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT IT SIMPLY CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AND AMAZE ME EVERY DAY, AND I BELIEVE THAT IT WILL DO THE SAME FOR YOU. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT THE BLACK EXTERIOR WITH BLUE INTERIOR IS AN EXTREMELY UNUSUAL AND STRIKING COMBINATION, BUT WHAT DOES NEED ARTICULATION IS THE FACT THAT THE TEMP GAUGE, GAS GAUGE, FM RADIO, POWER ANTENNA, WINDOWS ALL WORK INCREDIBLY WELL. SHE STARTS, RUNS, DRIVES AS IF THE SUN WERE RISING ABOVE THE HORIZON EVERY TIME I SLIDE MYSELF IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. HER 429 PUTS OUT TORQUE AND POWER APLENTY, SO SHE MOVES LIKE AN OLYMPIC GYMNAST BETWEEN THE WHITE LINES. FOR ME, TURNING THE KEY IS AN INSPIRATIONAL EXPERIENCE. THERE'S NOT A THING I WOULDN'T DO WITH THIS CADILLAC OR A PLACE I WOULDN'T DRIVE. I'D THROW A BAG IN THE BACKSEAT AND DRIVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN A HEARTBEAT. ASK ME WHAT YOU'D LIKE, BUT KNOW YOU'RE LOOKING AT ONE HECK OF A CAR. PLEASE DON'T BID SO I GET TO KEEP HER! |

Cadillac boss: We will have diesels
Tue, Aug 18 2015Johan de Nysschen doesn't usually mince words about his plans, and the Cadillac boss says that diesel-fueled models are on the horizon for the luxury brand in the US by the early 2020s. The four- and six-cylinder engines under development would launch first in Europe about 2019. "We will definitely bring them to the US," de Nysschen said during a press event, according to Automotive News. Unfortunately, the Cadillac president isn't saying which models would get the diesels, yet. This plan has been in the works for at least several months, and Cadillac made mention of the two oil-burners earlier this year during the unveiling of its new V6 engine. De Nysschen broached the possibility during an interview at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and he also referred to the inclusion of hybrids and plug-ins into the company's lineup at that time. Last year, a rumor suggested the addition of a V6 turbodiesel into the Escalade range. There were also rumblings of an oil-burning ATS during that model's launch. While Cadillac is no stranger to offering diesels in Europe, the decision to develop these new ones could come at an inopportune time. Governments there are rapidly moving against the fuel in favor of electrification. Tighter emissions regulations could also be on the way for the EU. Related Video:
2016 Cadillac ATS-V blasts into LA
Tue, 18 Nov 2014The first details about the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V recently hit the web ahead of the official debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Now, the latest model to wear Caddy's high-performance V moniker is officially official, and the specs are even better than initial rumors suggested.
The latest figures actually give the ATS-V a hair more power than first believed, with 455 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque pumping out of the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6. With a standard electronic limited-slip differential keeping rear wheels in check, Cadillac claims that the model sprints to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 185 mph. Buyers have two transmission choices that both offer launch control: a six-speed manual featuring Active Rev Match and no-lift shifting, or an eight-speed automatic.
Thoroughly revised suspension and braking systems should also mean that the ATS-V excels at more than just going in a straight line. The chassis itself receives extra bracing to boost overall stiffness by 25 percent over lesser ATS models. On top of that, a host of suspension upgrades front and rear, including third-generation Magnetic Ride Control dampers, mean quicker steering response and a tighter ride. Plus, Brembo six-piston calipers up front and four-pistons in the rear should bring rapid deceleration. To tune it all to the driver's whim, the Performance Traction Management system gives five settings to choose from for stability and traction control.
Question of the Day: Worst year of the Malaise Era?
Thu, Jun 23 2016The Malaise Era for cars in the United States spanned the 1973 through 1983 model years, and featured such abominations as a Corvette with just 205 horsepower (from the optional engine!) and MGBs with suspensions jacked way up to meet new headlight-height requirements. There were many low points throughout this gloomy period, of course. The horrifyingly low power and fuel-economy numbers for big V8s during the middle years of the Malaise Era make a strong case for 1974 or 1975— the years of Nixon's resignation and the Fall of Saigon, respectively— as the most Malaisey years. But then the GM-pummeling debacles of the Chevy Citation and Cadillac Cimarron could make an early-1980s year the low point. 1979, the year of the ignominious Chrysler bailout? You choose!
