1998 Cadillac Deville D'elegance Sedan 4-door 4.6l on 2040-cars
Stuttgart, Arkansas, United States
This 1998 Cadillac DeVille D'Elegance is from the estate of a lifelong friend who passed away in January 2014. Purchased brand new in late 1997 from the local Cadillac dealer, this one-owner beauty has been meticulously maintained by the same owner and same dealer since new. It is a non-smoker car that has been garage kept its entire life, and it shows. When I pulled it out of the garage, I rinsed the light dust off of it and that's all I did. She was so particular about her car that she has rubber mats over the carpeted mats. The interior is immaculate. Close inspection shows some very slight wear on the driver's seat bolsters (outside edge) from getting in and out, but you've got to look close. There is no interior odor and, again, I didn't touch the interior prior to taking the photos.
On the outside, it's unbelievable for a '98 model car. There are a few slight pecks and dings, but hardly noticeable. That's the beauty of a White car. Curiously, the thin bright silver trim that circles the car within the side molding has some spots on some of the pieces, most noticeable on the left rear door, but I really don't think it's a distraction to the otherwise stunning appearance. The Michelin tires look nearly brand new and the thin White stripe really sets off the dazzling chrome aluminum wheels. Unlike the faux chrome wheels that automakers use today, these are genuine chromed aluminum wheels, exclusive to the d'Elegance model, and none have any curb damage. Mechanically, it starts and runs perfectly. The battery looks fairly new, but I can't be sure how old it is. I only drove it a few miles, but checked everything out that I could. The HVAC system operates great, all of the instrumentation is bright and functioning properly, the radio and CD player sound beautiful. I didn't have a cassette to try, however, but would guess it works fine, too. The d'Elegance model has rear seat sun visors and I did notice that the vanity mirror light didn't work on the left rear one. There could be other things wrong with the car, as would be the case with any used vehicle, but you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer 1998 model car of any description, in my opinion. Automakers don't make roomy, great riding, comfortable cars like these anymore. For the money, this is a lot of car! Of course, it is being sold As Is, Without Warranty. Buyer assumes all risks. It is impossible to know everything about a used car, or what might happen to it in the future, but from what I know about this one, who owned it, and how it was taken care of, I would not hesitate to load my family in it and go anywhere. You are welcome to have it inspected by anyone you choose. It has a clear, open title. The title shows the previous title number to be the MSO. The title was issued on 12/04/1997 and it had 89 miles on the odometer. It has all of the original owner's manuals and glove box materials. It has the two original ignition keys (one gold) with built in chip and several door keys (one gold). It has one remote fob, and it works fine (the family could only find one fob). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I would like to be paid within 3 days of auction close. Cash, cashiers check or wire transfer preferred. Buyer is responsible to pick up the car. It is located in Stuttgart, Arkansas 72160. Thanks so much for looking! |

Texas sues GM, saying it tricked customers into sharing driving data sold to insurers
Wed, Aug 14 2024Texas filed a lawsuit Tuesday against GM over years of alleged abuse of customers' data and trust. New car owners were presented with a "confusing and highly misleading" process that was implied to be for their safety, but "was no more than a deceptively designed sales flow" that surrendered their data for GM to sell. The suit contends that at no point was selling driving data ever even suggested as a possibility, putting GM in violation of the state's consumer protection laws. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking a jury trial and at least $10,000 per offense (every GM car sold in the state since 2015) and a hefty add-on of $250,000 in cases where the victim was over 65. Texas seems to be flying high after a recent $1.4 billion settlement from Meta over other privacy concerns. This may well be a way to solve any pending budgetary issues in the Lone Star State.
Cadillac issues stop sale on ATS to recall 82k units
Wed, Jul 29 2015Cadillac is issuing a recall on 82,620 examples of the 2013-2016 ATS worldwide to fix a compliance issue with the sunroof controls. Until a service bulletin goes out to take care of things, there's also a stop sale on the luxury compact in the United States, The Detroit News reports. Of the affected models, 63,665 are in the US, according to a statement sent to Autoblog, and 7,922 of them are in Canada. The problem is actually the same issue as a recall on nearly 59,000 examples of the 2013-2015 ATS in the US in February. In them, the controls for the tilt and slide of the roof aren't recessed enough to meet government standards for the force necessary to operate the buttons. The Feds believe that someone could accidentally activate the auto-close and potentially be at risk. At the time, Cadillac dealers installed a new trim plate to add the needed clearance. In the latest update, the company is adding the 2016 model year, and according to The Detroit News, 70 percent of the cars from the original campaign also need another new trim plate. Unsurprisingly for such a minor defect, there are no known crashes, injuries, fatalities, or customer complaints related to this issue, according to the announcement by General Motors. Cadillac ATS Statement: General Motors is recalling 63,665 Cadillac ATS sedans in the United States from the 2013-2016 model years because the power-operated roof panel systems on these vehicles will auto-close when the non-recessed portion of the "Slide" or "Tilt" switches are pressed and the roof panel is open. Because these switches are not fully recessed, they can be actuated with less force than required to comply with applicable federal standards. GM knows of no crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this issue and has received no customer complaints. The total population of the recall including Canada, Mexico and exports is 82,620. Junkyard Gem: 1983 Cadillac Cimarron
Wed, Jul 26 2017Ah, the Cadillac Cimarron. Conceived during a time when oil prices were zooming upward and smallish luxury imports such as the Datsun 810 and BMW 320i were stealing Detroit's customers, the idea of a fuel-efficient compact Cadillac made sense. Unfortunately for GM, the Cimarron was an image-tarnishing disaster. Here's a fairly well-preserved '83 that I spotted in a Phoenix self-service wrecking yard. In the words of Pulitzer-winning Dan Neil in his 50 Worst Cars of All Time: "Everything that was wrong, venal, lazy and mendacious about GM in the 1980s was crystallized in this flagrant insult to the good name and fine customers of Cadillac." The Cimarron was a Chevrolet Cavalier with a bit of added bling and a fatter price tag. The Chevrolet Nova-based Cadillac Seville had sold pretty well during the late 1970s, so there was precedent for a small, Chevy-based Cadillac. The hood latch mechanism was broken (of course), so I couldn't shoot any photos of this car's 2.0-liter pushrod four-cylinder engine, rated at 86 horsepower. Here's a GM-produced documentary touting the futuristic design of the '83 Cimarron. The Cimarron Dream.
