Absolutely no rust, original California car has been with me in Eastern Washington two years stored inside."

This 1963 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan DeVille has lived all but the last two years in Southern California. I have owned it 6 years and other than detailing engine bay, installing custom air ride system (2-5 gallon tanks, 4 compressors) and new 20 inch chrome wheels and low profile tires, along with regular maintenance, have had to do nothing mechanical to this car (upgraded alternator and heavier battery) other than install a new heater core (what a job!). This car drives and rides great and I have taken it on many freeway and other roadtrips en route to car shows and NEVER broken down. Again, it is a 51 year old car but I honestly have never felt uneasy about jumping in it and driving it 200 miles in one day. It never runs hot, it doesn't burn oil, it really doesn't even leak with the exception of minor transmission fluid leakage if it sits for weeks without being driven, despite the new pan gaskets I installed two years ago.

The paint is a repaint from about 10 years ago, and while it wasn't a high dollar job it really is good looking and in great shape, painted to the original Benton Blue Cadillac color code. Even up close a non-discerning eye doesn't see flaws. The glass is all original and in great shape. The chrome is still bright and other than some pitting on the year bumper and around the rear tail lights and some "haziness" on one of the front buckets, it is in overall great shape. The interior is very decent, and every time I tell people I'm going to redo it they almost universally say they love it, even though to me it looks like grandma's drapes! The door lower carpet kick panels have some staining but there are no rips, tears or worn spots anywhere. The dash and instrument panel and steering wheel are all nice, although there is a cracked spot above the drivers array that has been "heat sealed" but still shows. The power windows all work great, the power seat tilts forward and back and up and down but the direct back and forward hasn't worked since I bought the car (you can hear the motor, but it doesn't move on the track). The car was an original factory AC car, however after spending thousands of dollars getting it working and it never really staying working I disconnected it while I was detailing engine bay and doing bags. The heater core is only 3 years old, however about a year ago the blower stopped working and I'm pretty sure it's the fan itself because when I jumper it to direct power it still doesn't blow. I think a new blower is about $150.

The bag system is awesome. Built by a friend of mine in Cadillac Kings car club of San Bernardino, CA who specializes in Cadillac bag systems, it has Slam Technologies bags, 4 Viar 380C compressors and two parallel 5 gallon tanks with 3 switches on dash for front, rear, pancake action. Also includes a very cool key fob for remote operation of bag system which is great fun at car shows when you can raise and lower car from afar! Set up with individual compressor fuses in trunk and breaker main on fender wall near battery. The alternator has been retrofitted to handle the compressors, however given the nature of how the original system works, if you run the compressors while at idle the charge rate will not keep up long term with heavy compressor use. At idle the alternator really doesn't charge and you either keep the revs above idle while compressing, or remember to recharge the battery after a heavy usage outing.

I had a customized dual exhaust installed 3 years ago with some light glass packs, so the car sounds throaty without being overboard. The key was rerouting the exhaust over the axles (with heat shielding for gas lines) so that when the car is dropped to the ground it actually rests on the frame and there is no contact with exhaust to ground.

The signals, lights, cornering lamps, tail and brake lights, reverse lights all work well. The engine has great compression and the transmission works exactly like it's supposed to. I replaced the power steering unit a few years ago and it works great with no leaks. The brakes are drum but in great shape. The weather stripping is decent but could use replacing around the windows and doors. I have always stored it inside and never driven it in rain or snow, so it was never a priority to replace. The trunk weatherstripping is great and there are no leaks other some minor ones around windows when spraying with high pressure during washing, etc.

Other Known Issues: One center cap is missing off one of the chrome wheels. I mentioned the pitting and hazing on chrome, weather stripping, blower fan. There is also a discolored section on the rear package tray and one broken rear courtesy lamp lens cover, although the lights all work. The package tray is $90 and a lens cover is $6.00. With 4 other vehicles I just never got around to replacing those items and had planned to do it all when I re-did the interior. The only other issue might be in the near future the bushings on the rear "A-arms" may need replacing. At low ride height there is some side to side movement of rear end, but at full ride height it isn't an issue. Car is safe to drive, fun to drive, never fails to draw admiring comments and attention.

Mixed sales results, but automaker stocks rise on need for cars in Houston

Fri, Sep 1 2017

DETROIT — The Big Three Detroit automakers on Friday reported better-than-expected August sales and issued optimistic outlooks for demand as residents of the Houston area replace flood-damaged cars and trucks after Hurricane Harvey, sending their stocks higher. General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler posted mixed August U.S. sales, with GM up 7.5 percent and Ford and Fiat Chrysler down. Japanese automaker Toyota improved sales by nearly 7 percent, while Honda fell 2.4 percent. Still, analysts focused on the potential for Detroit automakers to cut inventories and stabilize used vehicle prices as residents of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, are forced to replace tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of vehicles after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Mark LaNeve, Ford's U.S. sales chief, told analysts on Friday that following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 "we saw a very dramatic snapback" in demand. That said, Ford sales fell 2.1 percent in August. It sold 209,897 vehicles in the United States, compared with 214,482 a year earlier. Sales were down 1.9 percent in the Ford division and off 5.8 percent at Lincoln. Demand was down for cars, crossovers and SUVs. It was not clear how many vehicles in the Houston area will be scrapped, LaNeve said, saying he had seen estimates ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 to 1 million. Ford's Houston dealers may have lost fewer than 5,000 vehicles in inventory, he said. Ford is the No. 1 automaker in the Houston market, with 18 percent share, according to IHS Markit. The company plans to ship used vehicles to Houston dealers and has "every indication we would have to add some production" of new vehicles to meet demand, LaNeve said. Investor concerns about inventories of unsold vehicles and falling used car prices have weighed on Detroit automakers' shares most of this year. Now, automakers can anticipate a jolt of demand from a big market that is a stronghold for Detroit brand trucks and SUVs. "It's got to be a positive for the industry," LaNeve said. Investors appeared to agree. GM shares rose as much as 3.3 percent to their highest since early March. Ford increased 2.8 percent at $11.34, and Fiat Chrysler's U.S.-traded shares were up 5.2 percent $15.91, hitting their highest in more than five years. GM reported a 7.5 percent increase in U.S. auto sales in August, helped by robust sales of crossovers across its four brands.

Fixated By Europeans, GM Ensures The Third Time Is A Charm
Few things are better for consumers than competition raising the bar. And no campaign seems fiercer than the one currently underway in the midsize sport-sedan segment now that Cadillac has introduced its all-new 2014 CTS to go head-to-head against the benchmark Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
While the CTS has been on the market for slightly more than a decade, up until this third-generation, Cadillac hasn't truly had the proper high-performance rear-wheel-drive architecture to build a genuine world-class fighter, both inside and out. And now that the American automaker has successfully mirrored Audi, BMW and Mercedes in overall vehicle size, engine output and cabin appointments, the first shots have been fired.

2016 Cadillac CTS-V to hit dealers this summer, start at $83,995*

Wed, Apr 29 2015

Cadillac has announced pricing for the 640-horsepower CTS-V, and not only will the new super-sedan outgun its heartiest German rivals, it'll undercut them on price, too. Kicking off at $83,995 (not including a $995 destination charge), the CTS-V is nearly $10,000 less than the 560-hp BMW M5, almost $18,000 less than the 577-hp Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic, and is nearly $25,000 less than the 560-hp Audi RS7. So in case you were wondering, yes, the CTS-V will continue to be one of the auto industry's very best high-performance bargains in its third generation. "V-Series represents the pinnacle of Cadillac, a brand that now makes drivers' cars at the highest level," Cadillac's head honcho Johan de Nysschen said in a statement. "The new CTS-V is essentially two cars in one: a luxury sedan with sophisticated road manners and a track-capable sports car with awe-inspiring performance. This type of car is exclusive, the domain of the few who can access this level of incredible capability. V-Series matches or overtakes the finest cars in this elite class, while being more accessible." As for when you can get your hands on bargain-priced beast, dealers are now accepting orders, with deliveries slated to begin late this summer. Scroll on down for the official release from Cadillac. Next-Generation 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V Launches This Summer U.S. DEALERS BEGIN ACCEPTING ORDERS NOW FOR CADILLAC'S UPCOMING PERFORMANCE ICON DETROIT – Cadillac announced today that U.S. dealers will begin accepting orders for the next-generation 2016 CTS-V, the all-new high-performance sedan that launches in late summer. The 640-hp CTS-V is the second of two all-new V-Series models to come to market in 2015, following the smaller ATS-V coupe and sedan, which launches in late spring. Cadillac's new 2016 V-Series models represent a significant expansion of the brand's elite, high-performance line. Not only are the new V-Series cars elevated in terms of performance, they now reach a broader spectrum of drivers by presenting two distinct personalities, size categories and price points. With a top speed of 200 mph and 0-60 performance in 3.7 seconds, the CTS-V is the most powerful car in Cadillac's 112-year history. The 2016 CTS-V is priced from $83,995. Customers can place orders now with dealers and view additional product information at Cadillac.com. The CTS-V elevates into the elite group of the world's highest-performing sedans.
