1957 Cadillac Convertible Series 62 Original Black Car Paint Code 10 Unreal Body with No Rot

(The car in 2009 before it was dismantled for parts)

This car is a very solid and desirable car.  A good friend of mine had a mint condition 1957 Eldorado that was burnt in a fire. He wanted to restore his burnt Eldorado, and purchased this excellent Series 62 to pull some parts. The Series 62 was a running and driving car that was 100% complete in 2009, but is now stripped, and just a shell of what it used to be. I have been waiting to purchase this car, and since I have a Cadillac scrap yard, I was able to gather a lot of parts in anticipation of receiving it. Unfortunately, I have too many other projects and I can't go forward with this one. Instead, I am offering it on eBay with no reserve and can eventually help someone restore the car with the parts I had originally gathered. Pieces that I had gathered include some of the stainless trim pieces that are rare. Some are from the Eldorado that burned and may some windshield trim has a "smoke stain", but they can be flash plated and are fortunately not warped or bent. These parts are very rare, so plating the smoke stained parts are one of the few routes to take with this restoration. As stated earlier, the cleanest parts went to the Eldorado show car. I have a Cadillac scrap yard with parts ranging from 1950-1964. We have tried to add in as many parts as we have here. Please call for more details anytime 301 672 1000. If the car is not paid for within 72 hour of the end of the auction, it will be for sale at Carlisle and Hershey car shows.

One of the main challenges for the new owner of this 1957 Series 62, will be finding a rear speaker, rear view mirror,  the sun visor brackets (repo on EBAY), and the rear interior panels that hold the ash tray right and left) reproduction from Classic Fabrication out of New England.

Key points of the car:

  • Sabre Wheels (4)
  • car was running and all together in 2009 (See pictures)
  • nice solid body, no rust issues, very SOLID well preserved car
  • solid body mounts and rockers, solid body parts all the way around, no filler in panels
  • V's and crests intact
  • Clear title in hand
  • Original lube tag in door jamb
  • Original cowl tag never removed, pictured below
  • Power trunk option, with cover included, the glove box button was from burnt Eldorado, so its not perfect
  • May deliver as far as Miami, FL or New England for a fee, please inquire
  • Many extra parts and misc hardware go with the car....extra front grill, nice extra gas tank, extra seat track, the Vert is LOADED with parts that will help your restoration. These parts are not pictured
  • Some upgraded parts are included for the restoration, most parts will be shrink wrapped together ..... lefts and right etc. wrapped up
  • Free storage for up to 60 days, able to hold till Hershey car show if needed but payment must be made in 72 hours of winning bid
  • Used windshield included, nice inner rockers as well
  • Very solid floor pans and trunk
  • Back seat is from the burnt Eldo, but impossible to find otherwise - useable neverr rusted  top and bottom
  • Correct carburetor included  for 1957
  • This Convertible was originally black (Paint Code 10 Trim Code 29), which makes it very desirable, red interior
  • Passenger rear bumper end is soft in one spot will need obviously to be redone
  • .
Engine:
It ran in 2009 before it was dismantled for parts. We have not started the car. The carb was not with the car  so we set a correct carb core on the manifold.

Body:
Super solid. We do not see ANY rust on the trunk, floors and rockers. One the best I have ever seen. The BODY IS UNREAL.

Interior:
The back seats are very rare. They came from the Eldorado that was burnt. The top and bottom are in good shape, and were not rusty before the fire. For the front seat, I have nice tracks and side covers for the bottom with the switch. I have 2 sets of backs, I have a marginal seat bottom and center arm rest.  The dash pad needs redone, and the cluster is set in and not the original cluster from this car but reads 38.XXX miles. It's not pitted, and the front door panels are original red pieces to the car. We do not have the rear interior panels, but they are available. Also you can make them  We have the right and left UPPER interior trim for the rear, as they are hard to find elsewhere. They are screwed in.

Doors:
The doors are 1958 doors i put on the car, as I did not have nice 57 doors. I am including some rough doors from a 1957 that have the Convertible only vent windows and would be good to keep for a model for assembly.I may get some 1957 nice doors I primed the ones on the car and realized they were for 1958.

Transmission:
It is original.

Windshield Trim:
We have all the trim except the sun visors and brackets and rear view mirror assembly. Some was scorched by fire and will need to be flash plated as they are very rare and you will probably not be able to find others. I even have the small stainless in the center that acts as a cover. Most people loose this part.

Side trim:
It is nice but one of the long strips has screws on the driver side. I will include another one for spare.

Convertible parts:
The top frame is from the burnt car and was never rusty. It is amazing shape and set in the car , This series 62 has a 4 piece snap pinch well trim that is very nice. Rear quarter windows and regulators are included with tracks as pictured as well as some hardware.
Some rare convertible parts that will be included are pictured below:

No rust under hood lip.                 Thin molding is nice R & L          Beautiful inner rockers                  1958 doors primed in error, please call

We can assist with world wide shipping and transport for a fee.  Please inquire before bidding. The buyer is responsible for all costs related, but not limited to shipping, transport, customs fees, tags, and taxes.

GM announces 3 new recalls affecting 1.7M vehicles in North America [w/video]

Mon, Mar 17 2014

Still embroiled in the ongoing ignition switch recall, General Motors announced today three more discrete recalls, affecting a grand total of 1,546,900 vehicles in the US. The Detroit News reports that some 1.7 million vehicles are affected overall in North America. The first and largest of the trio of new recalls concerns some 1.18-million Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia crossovers from the 2008-2013 model years, Chevrolet Traverse from 2009-2013 (pictured above) and Saturn Outlook vehicles from 2008-2010. All of the crossover utilities may have an issue with the wiring harness for their seat-mounted side airbags. Apparently, the vehicles are equipped with a Service Air Bag warning light that, if ignored, "will eventually result in the non-deployment of the side impact restraints." Those restraints include the side airbags, a front-center airbag if the vehicle is so equipped and seatbelt pretensioners. Dealers of affected vehicles will be instructed to remove driver and passenger side airbag wiring harness connectors, and then "splice and solder the wires together." The second recall affects 303,000 Chevrolet Express (pictured right) and GMC Savana vans from model years 2009-2014, and with gross vehicle weights under 10,000 pounds. Said vehicles do not comply with a head impact requirement for unrestrained occupants, and will need a reworking of the instrument panel material to be sent back on the road. It doesn't sound as though there's a quick fix for this one, as the GM press release states: "Unsold vehicles have been placed on a stop delivery until development of the solution has been completed and parts are available." Finally, the third recall affects 63,900 Cadillac XTS luxury sedans from model years 2013 and 2014. A brake booster pump may be susceptible to corrosion by way of the relay, potentially causing and electrical short, overheating, melting of plastic components and even engine fires. GM says it is aware of two engine fires in unsold XTS models and two cases of melted parts. Repairs for the issues affecting the XTS have not not mentioned by GM in the release. The Detroit News is also reporting that along with news of the triple-recall, GM is taking a $300-million credit to help pay for the repair costs, and to deal with the ongoing costs associated with the ignition switch recall. In an attempt to explain just what GM has been doing in the face of these very serious issues, newly minted CEO Mary Barra has addressed the issues in a new video.

Lansing builds its millionth Cadillac

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Cadillacs are built at plants across North America. The Escalade is assembled in Texas, the SRX in Mexico and the XTS in Ontario. But the bulk of Cadillac's lineup - or the smaller members of the family, at least - are built in Michigan. And while the upcoming ELR will be built alongside the Chevy Volt at the Detroit/Hamtramck facility (which incidentally opened with the Cadillac Eldorado back in '86), the majority of those Cadillacs built in Michigan are handled by the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant.
In fact, Lansing Grand River just celebrated its millionth Cadillac built. The landmark millionth vehicle is a new 2014 CTS sedan in Red Obsession Tintcoat. The facility opened in 2001 and has built Cadillacs almost exclusively since then, assembling the CTS and ATS model lines, though in a couple of years it will also handle production of the Chevy Camaro.

Cadillac CT6 styling will be evolutionary, not like Elmiraj

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Well, this is at least a little disappointing. It turns out Cadillac's long-awaited flagship, the CT6, won't be ushering in a wholesale change in the company's design. That's coming from GM Design guru Ed Welburn, meaning it should be taken as gospel (unless of course he's just trying to hoodwink us). "It'll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio," Welburn told Automotive News. "But you won't see a real shift in direction." Instead, Art and Science will be shown in yet another new form, and will "continue to evolve," according to Welburn, although what that means is unclear. What we can say for certain, though, is that Art and Science on the CT6 will not evolve into the stunning Elmiraj Concept. "I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we're working on for Cadillac," Welburn said, we're guessing with a smirk and an air of mystery. Considering we have yet to see the CT6, it's hard to tell whether this will be good news or bad, although based on the critical reception to the Elmiraj, we're a little bit disappointed by Welburn's statements. Still, only time will tell whether the styling of the CT6 will really work out.
