1990 Cadillac Allante Convertible up for auction with NO RESERVE

4.5 V8, 112k original miles. With the overdrive transmission the Caddy will get over 20 mpg on the highway. This Allante is a late 1990 model, it has some improvements over the early 1990 models including convertible top release motors on top of the windshield and increased horsepower.

Mechanically: the Caddy has had a recent fuel injection service (cleaning and replacement of three injectors) and a tuneup, has a nice throttle response with impressive acceleration. The digital dash works properly but one side is a little dim at night. The driver's power seat doesn't move, the switch needs cleaning or or a seat motor replacement. The top and windows work properly. The exhaust is a bit loud, she could probably use a new muffler. The a/c doesn't blow cold, the dash display shows "Low Refrigerant" when you turn it on but the compressor does have a belt on it, probably just needs a recharge. The engine turns over easily, the fuel injection allowing a simple turn of the key to start the car.

Cosmetically the Allante shows very well, the original paint still in great condition, nice metallic pearl finish. The bumpers and grill are in good shape, no dents or scratches. The dash has some sun damage, it has a top of the line Suede Dashmat cover that matches the interior. The console, carpet, door panels and rear panels are nice, no cracks or damage. Modern CD/MP3/Ipod compatible stereo mounted in glove box with new speakers in the doors, sounds great when top down cruising. Glove box closes to hide stereo when not in use. Smal crack in the bottom left of the windshield, about two inches, it's always passed inspection. These are all the pix I have right now; some are the pix I submitted for Classic Insurance ($290 a year for full comprehensive), some are from a car show. This is a ten day auction and I'll have more shots (interior, engine)  when the weather clears up, probably Monday. If not, you can check my feedback- I'm a classic car nut with a particular fondness for Caddies and buyers have been pretty happy with the cars I've sold.

Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Engine starts easily, doesn't leak anything, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. Runs very strong, tracks straight as an arrow and is a pleasure on the highway. She idles well, shifts smoothly, stops easily and the suspension is sporty. Drives overall like a Cadillac Roadster should. She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work as well as the horn and wipers. The underside is solid as the Allante has always been a Garage Queen. I love driving the car but finances are what they are and I need to sell. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Caddy is for sale locally and I'm open to buy it now offers as well.

Modern classic Caddy convertible that will only appreciate in value. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230

Cadillac, Daimler execs take swipes at Tesla

Tue, Apr 22 2014

Despite the financial ties between Daimler and Tesla Motors, at least one Mercedes exec thinks the electric automaker doesn't have a bright future. And over at Cadillac, the message is that Tesla doesn't pose a threat but offers the luxury arm of General Motors more of classroom experience. The Mercedes story runs like this. Mercedes-Benz USA president and CEO, Steve Cannon, said at the New York Auto Show last week that Tesla has "no network" and only offers "little shops that don't have service capacity." He also said: "Folks are buying a Tesla now because they're kind of cool, but if you're a Tesla buyer, you have to have multiple cars. With Mercedes, you have a whole network. You've got no worries. ... Tesla is great, but you've got plenty of well-established brands that mean luxury, like Porsche or Mercedes-Benz, and how long do you think we're going to wait and let Tesla be out there alone [selling premium electric cars]?" "Treehuggers do not buy new luxury cars" – Uwe Ellinghaus For Cadillac's global chief marketing officer, Uwe Ellinghaus, Tesla's EV success represents little other than "a great opportunity and a learning exercise for all of us, and will help us traditional manufacturers to think twice about electric mobility." He added that, "I am not afraid of Tesla. ... There is no willingness to really sacrifice on the traditional qualities of a luxury car. These are not cars for treehuggers, as treehuggers do not buy new luxury cars." Ellinghaus made the comments during a panel discussion at the 2014 Automotive Forum. Perhaps the lesson of Tesla's offer of free Supercharging to Model S owners is what led to Cadillac to recently announce a deal with Chargepoint that gives ELR drivers access to that company's 16,500 charging stations. Read more details on that below. Cadillac and ChargePoint Bring EV Customer Luxury Driving Experience World's largest, most open electric vehicle charging network available to ELR drivers 2014-04-16 NEW YORK – Cadillac today announced a partnership with ChargePoint, the largest and most open electric vehicle-charging network in the world. The collaboration brings Cadillac ELR drivers immediate access to more than 16,500 charging locations on the ChargePoint network. The ELR electrified luxury coupe went on sale at the end of 2013. It embodies Cadillac's Art & Science design philosophy, combining provocative design with progressive technology.

Playboy reveals its 2013 Cars of the Year

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Vaunted men's magazine Playboy knows that its readers are nearly as interested in cars as they are in the female anatomy... sorry, we thought we could write that with a straight face. Anyway, the buff-book does occasionally fill some of its spreads with sexy metal, to accent all the rest of the sexiness.
To wit, the magazine has unveiled its feature on the 2013 Cars of the Year. Without giving us much in the way of criteria for the awards, nor a clear framing of the categories ("Responsible Ride" is a particularly challenging concept, especially when you consider that the Mazdaspeed3 was the winner), Playboy has nevertheless highlighted what we assume to be it's favorite 12 or 13 (depending on how you count) cars from the 2013 model year.
Headlining the class is the Porsche 911, which Playboy writers single out for having "remarkable electronic voodoo." BMW M5 is named "Slickest Sports Sedan" though the Cadillac ATS then follows on because "we couldn't resist giving the new Caddy a shout-out." The rest of the picks are pretty conventional (save, perhaps, the Honda Fit EV as "Ace Electric"), even if the categories and methodology are fairly wonky. Cruise through or gallery for a taste or check out the full list, here. The site is safe for work, and you can legitimately (this time) say that you were reading it for the articles.

GM recalling 2013 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac SRX over transmission software

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued recalls for the 2013 Buick LaCrosse and 2013 Cadillac SRX due to a problem with the software for the transmission controller. On about 27,000 SRX and LaCrosse models, the transmission could accidentally be shifted to Sport mode, which would reduce the amount of engine braking drivers experience.
NHTSA says this could increase the risk of a crash, but, fortunately, the required fix is simply an update to the software.
While we're on the subject of General Motors vehicle recalls, a small number (48) of compressed natural gas versions of the 2011 Chevrolet Express are also being recalled for a potential risk of fire or explosion. Yikes. Both official recall notices are posted below.
