Gorgeous 1961 Caddy Deville Convertible 

Here's my 61 Convertible Caddy, the one car I never thought I'd let go. It's won awards at car shows and will usually get at least one "Ok, how much do you want for the Caddy" at cruise nights. Fans of this body style Caddy know that the 61 is particularly stylish; the taillight treatments and "double fins" in the rear make this a uniquely stunning classic. According to Hagerty and several other classic car sources, a 1961 Cadillac Convertible in this condition is worth anywhere from $39,000 to $75,000, so my asking price is reasonable. The car is titled in my name, tagged, insured and on the road with a current NY state inspection sticker. I'm only selling due to finances.

84k, 390 V8. Options include six way power bench seat, power windows, power top with boot cover, color coded hubcaps, power brakes and power steering. Caddy convertibles from this era are steadily climbing in value, especially the 1961 and 1962 body styles. This is from Hagerty.com:

"Cadillac continued to list its premium Series 62 hardtops as "de Ville" models through 1964. While the spectacular ’59s entertained with their astounding tailfins, the ’60 Coupe de Villes exhibited exquisite form. From 1959 on, Sedan de Villes were offered in four-window and six-window models, with the four-window editions featuring especially attractive rooflines. The deeply sculpted ’61 de Ville models sported dramatic space-age styling with racy, thin-pillar rooflines and rocket-inspired fins, complemented by lower-body "skeg lines.” 1962 models were readily distinguished by their more formal rooflines. Smoothly unadorned flanks gave the 1963 editions a fresh infusion of what chief designer Chuck Jordan called ”the grace and spirit" of all great Cadillacs. Along with exterior refinements for 1964, a new 340-hp 429-cid engine replaced the 390-cid variants of 1959-63, and the Turbo-Hydramatic was introduced. With the exception of the universally cherished ’59s, de Villes of this era are relatively affordable today. Mechanical:  It's always been meticulously cared for, all service and regular maintenance have been performed on schedule. I bought the Caddy from a older collector in Connecticut, he's had it in a heated garage since the mid 70's. I was told the 84k on the odometer is original, my mechanic thinks it is genuine as well. The engine was rebuilt in the mid 90's, under 10k on motor. The engine compartment was painted when the rebuild was done. Recent work includes front end work, brake system gone through, rebuilt carburetor, new sending unit for gas gauge, refurbished radiator, full tuneup including Pertronix electronic ignition and Flamethrower coil (original points setup and coil in trunk), air shocks in the rear and gas shocks up front, and new belts and hoses. The power windows work perfectly and the power top raises and lowers easily. The top was replaced about seven years ago and got a new motor and hoses at the same time. The convertible top "arms" are chromed which I thought was a classy touch. The lights work, the heater works, the radio works through the front and rear speakers, the power antenna works and the power seat works. Clock does not work, "trumpet" horn does. The transmission has developed a slow leak recently. I haven't looked into it, just add fluid as needed. The wide "Portowall" whitewall inserts and new radials are on the car now.

Cosmetic: The Caddy got new paint in 2000 in the original Champagne Aspen Gold with a modern metal flake finish. It glitters nicely in the sunshine and the body is straight as an arrow. The door panels and seats were redone as well, the leahter and vinyl are supple and the seats are cushy. The car has never seen winter, it's always been a "Garage Queen". All the glass is in very good shape, no scratches or hazing. I don't know if the bumpers were rechromed but they look like new. The first 16 photos below were taken this past weekend, the rest are from a car show and a wedding. The shots of the underside are from when I first got the car, as you can see by the old shocks and tires.

The Caddy starts right up even after sitting for months and the engine has a nice purr. Runs very strong, tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly, no pulling or fading. She idles perfectly, temperature needle never varies, shifts smoothly, tracks straight, stops easily and the suspension is luxurious. Simply a pleasure on the highway, it handles well for a car of this size. Drives overall like an American classic luxury cruiser should. 

Overall a beautiful example of a classic American convertible. On the highway she'll get 13-15 MPG, pretty good for an early 60's luxury cruiser. The directional/brake/turn signal/headlights/brights work properly as well as the wipers and horn.

Cadillac calling in 4,900 CTS-V models for brake issue

General Motors is recalling just over 4,900 first-generation Cadillac CTS-V sedans built between September 6, 2003 and June 11, 2007. The affected vehicles are largely registered in cold weather states where rock salt is used on roads. The salt could corrode the front brake hose's fitting in the brake calipers, which could lead to a brake fluid leak, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's bulletin reads. Needless to say, that would make slowing down the Corvette-powered Caddy a challenge. The affected vehicles were registered and/or sold in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. GM is set to begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles, who will need to report to dealers to have both front brake hose assemblies replaced. Repairs are, naturally, free of charge. GM says over 40% of new China launches in next five years will be EVs

SHANGHAI — General Motors is planning an electric car offensive in China with more than 40% of its new launches in the country over the next five years set to be electric vehicles (EVs), the U.S. carmaker said on Wednesday. GM's electric vehicles, many of which will be all-electric battery cars, will be manufactured in China with almost all parts coming from local suppliers, the company said in a statement released at its Tech Day event in Shanghai. Reuters reported earlier on Wednesday that GM was planning to overhaul its Chinese line-up to stem a slide of sales after more than two decades of growth in a country that contributes nearly a fifth of its profit. GM's new China boss Julian Blissett told Reuters that new technologies, such as EVs and cars with near hands-free driving for highways, would play a key role in GM's China initiatives, which are part of a push to get annual sales in the country back to the 4 million peak it hit in 2017. GM did not say in its statement how many new or significantly redesigned models it was planning to launch in China over the next five years. "China will play a crucial role in making our vision a reality," GM CEO Mary Barra said in the statement, referring to its initiative to create what it describes as a future of "zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion" through electrification and smart-driving technologies. GM has said it plans to invest more than $20 billion in electric and automated vehicles globally by 2025. It was not clear how much of that investment will be spent in China. Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.
