I am selling a 1974 Fleetwood Brougham Series 60 model. The car was willed to me by my grandfather, who was a Cadillac mechanic for his entire career after returning home from WWII. First the facts:

Car runs great, and starts on the second crank. That may be operator error more than anything since I don’t have a ton of experience with carbureted cars.

Approx 74,900 miles. Car has been garaged for all its life as far as I know. My grandfather would keep it garaged and on blocks in the winter as he lived in the snowbelt, and I’ve kept it garaged since receiving it in 2008 and take it out for the occasional weekend drive.

Tires have plenty of wear left and look to be in good shape. They were on the car when I got it, but look relatively recent.

Paint and body are in very good shape. There are a couple of scratches but no rust through, and you can still see your reflection in the paint. Vinyl top is in great shape. No tears or rips, and color is pretty consistent. Only notable body “problem area” is that the plastic above the rear bumper (pictured), which seems to have rotted and cracked.

Interior has all the power features and all work well (more than I thought would have been around in 1974), including: power locks, power driver seat, power windows, cruise, power antenna, rear defog, climate control, mirrors, etc. The AC does not seem to be working very well (blows but not very cold) although I’ve only tried using it once or twice. The clock inside also doesn’t work, although I don’t ever recall it working when my grandfather had the car. Upholstery and carpeting are in excellent shape. No tears or rips, and the dash and plastics are all intact and look great. Steering wheel has the fake wood “sticker” peeling off, but that’s about the only thing wrong inside.

A bit of history on the car:

As I mentioned, this was my grandfather’s “Special Occasion” car for as long as I can remember, and I believe he was the original owner. When visiting them in Erie, PA, it was always a special treat when grandpa would take me out in “Big Blue.” They car would also come when my grandparents would visit us in the summer, making the 10 hour drive. I remember eagerly waiting to see “Big Blue” rounding the corner since we’d only see them once or twice a year and it was always a special occasion.

I remember him putting on one of his old mechanic’s shirts (the kind with your name printed on the shirt) and working on the car sometimes when we’d visit, or seeing some of the old Cadillac memorabilia he had in his garage.

When he passed, he left the car to me, and I’ve been able to enjoy the occasional Sunday drive with my own family. It’s too large to park at our house, so we had to get a special garage to store it in, and with two young kids born since I received the car, I’m just not using it. I’m posting it here in the hopes that a Caddy enthusiast can get “Big Blue” out and about, and enjoy the car rather than me keeping it locked up in a garage.

I’m happy to supply any information I can on the car, and it’s got a clean SC title that’s “in hand” and ready to transfer. I’m also happy to help you with logistics on transporting the car, and can turn the vehicle over to a transporter you arrange at a mutually convenient time, or meet you somewhere near Charlotte, NC to transfer the car. It’s road worthy and runs great so you can drive it away if you live in the area. Let me know if you have any questions, or would like to see the car in person.

NOTE:

A bidder was kind enough to notify me this is NOT the series 60 model, but the higher-end Brougham model. I cannot revise the description above, but please note that this is actually the better model 1974 Fleetwood!!!!

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Cadillac CT6 production ceases January 2020 as part of D-Ham layoffs

Fri, Dec 6 2019

General Motors filed paperwork under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity this week, detailing events to come at the automaker's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Starting February 28, 814 salaried and hourly workers at D-Ham, as its called, will be laid off. The 753 workers represented by the UAW will begin receiving offers in January to relocate to facilities in Michigan and Ohio, or buyout offers. As the 4-million-square-foot plant winds down through April 3 to a skeleton crew, the Cadillac CT6 ceases production in January 2020, and the last Chevrolet Impala comes off the line on February 28. The loss of the CT6 represents the end of Cadillac's latest brief, and highly regarded, adventure into flagship sedans. It might also mean the end of the 4.2-liter Blackwing twin-turbo V8 engine, at least for the moment. Both casualties are calamities. The death of the Impala closes the door on a nameplate in production for 52 years since 1957, having started off as a top-tier trim for the 1958 Bel Air known as the Bel Air Impala, once advertised with the line, "Lets you know you're the boss." As part of the new four-year labor agreement with the UAW, GM is keeping D-Ham open to build a new line of battery-electric vehicles, ultimately investing $3 billion and tripling employment to 2,225 workers when fully operational. The agreement described the coming EV as a "van" that would commence production in late 2021, but various reports say what's actually coming is a range of premium EVs in pickup and SUV bodystyles under the program codename BT1. The easy predictions put an electric GMC Sierra and Cadillac Escalade among the EV fold, but not until 2023, according to auto industry forecaster LMC Automotive. Before that, LMC claims an electric van will debut in late 2021, along with a battery-powered rebirth of the Hummer brand in pickup and SUV forms, also in late 2021.

GM recalls Chevy Impala, Cadillac XTS for braking problem

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Back in April, General Motors launched an investigation into braking issues affecting the 2014 Chevy Impala. Now there's a recall of both the Impala and the Cadillac XTS with which it shares its Epsilon II platform.
The issue apparently revolves around the electronic parking brake, which may not properly disengage. As a result, the rear brake pads could rub the rotor even while the vehicle is in motion, causing "significant heat, smoke and sparks." The earlier investigation had been launched following a complaint regarding the forward collision avoidance system, which is now either appears to have been unrelated or possibly a symptom of this larger issue.
The recall affects 2013-15 XTS models manufactured between February 14, 2012, and August 22, 2014, as well as 2014-15 Impalas manufactured between January 15, 2013, and August 22, 2014. The total number of affected vehicles reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration comes to precisely 132,921 units, while The Detroit News reports a higher total of 205,000 units - the difference potentially coming down to the scope within the US and more broadly across North America. Dealers will contact owners to update the software in order to fix the problem.
