1973 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special Brougham 7.7l Nr !!! No Reserve !!! on 2040-cars

Year:1973 Mileage:128771 Color: paint is the original factory Phoenix Gold Firemist with maintained areas
Location:

You are viewing the king of luxury "barge cars" of the early 1970's.  A 1973  CADILLAC FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM.  Nothing was longer or heavier - not Lincoln or Imperial of that era.  The only car in standard production which was larger, was the Cadillac series 75 (which was the commerical chassis for ambulances, herses, and limousines.)  If you owned a Fleetwood Brougham sedan, it was a status symbol in American culture before the downsizing and fuel crisis that soon followed.

The interior of the car is a must see.  No cracks, sun-fading, rips, tears, dents, or stains.  Car has been garage kept most all of its life.   The interior is olive green leather  with embroidery (...goovy).  Carpeting is all original, thick, with no stains.  The rear seat passengers have carpeted leg rests - a feature only found on the Fleetwoods.  All electrics operate on the car - power windows, locks, and the driver's six-way power seat.   The front seat is a split 60/40 design.    All interior lights work including the reading lights on the "C Panel".  What does not work is the power antenna (maybe a wire).

Original rubber (color correct) floor mats with the Cadillac crest come with the car.   The gold vinyl roof is all original and is superior!  The exterior paint is the original factory Phoenix Gold Firemist with maintained areas (an extra charge option back then).  So The flanks of the car are good as are the horizontal surfaces.  The very hard-to-find plastic fender fillers (1973 was the first model year for these due to the Federal Government mandate of 5 mph bumpers, which this car has)  are all there.

Air conditioning is R12.  Blower is strong, and the air conditioning does blow super cold air.   The caddy built 472 engine is strong coupled to a massive Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission which does have a very slow leak.  It is not enough to have the seal changed.

Underneath is excellant with NO RUST.  Engine does not burn oil.  No smoke from exhaust.  No rust in the trunk with all of the original trunk carpeting including an original Cadillac rubber trunk mat.

I have owned this car since November of 2008 and I love it, but must sell it for room.   I have had it garage kept.   I have rebuilt the quadrajet carb and upgraded the exhaust with new muffler and tailpipes. removed all ca smog equip and have installed a custom bypass pulley.      This piece of equipment is unique.  The front is stunning!   The Fleetwood standard hood stand-up Cadillac wreathed crest is missing.   Talk about over the top...  anybody looking at this monster rolling up behind them on the highway will take notice!

I have the original window sticker with all of the original factory installed options.  Plus additional original brochures from 1973.  Included with the sale of the car will be a nice softback book about Cadillacs.  What a great package of Cadillac nostalgia for the Cadillac enthusiest.

The car will be sold with the brochures and hardback book.   I am requesting only serious bidders for this car.  If you are knowledgable about this era of American cars - this is an outstanding example for you to consider.   The car does need to be restored to be able to say its a "10".   -  but....this would be an easy restoration job, with hardly any work to be done on the interior and some work on the exterior.   No re-chroming needed.   Come see this car and what AMERICAN ENGINEERING was all about.

There was only 24,800 Fleetwoods made in 1973.   Only the 1973 models have the unique "beaver tail" rear end bumper.  Starting in 1974, these vehicles had a restyle keeping the same dimensions.  Few 1973's are on the road today.  This one is very driveable today and a head turner AS IS.

Ghostbusters' new Ecto-1 is an oddly uninspiring '82 Caddy

Fri, Mar 25 2016

The Ghostbusters, or at least the movie franchise, will emerge from Hollywood's cobwebs this summer, but instead of the iconic 1959 Cadillac known as Ecto-1 that delighted big screen audiences in 1984, the new model may leave some scratching their heads. That's because this latest Ghostbusters draws its vehicular inspiration from a decidedly less interesting period in American automobile production: the 1980s. Starring alongside Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones is a 1982 Cadillac DeVille hearse. The studio dressed up this tired Caddy to look the part, but something's amiss. Instead of the flamboyant fins and shiny chrome, the '82 is decidedly pedestrian and uninteresting. Even in 1982, it was kind of a dull choice for luxury car buyers. There's a reason Murilee Martin deemed the '70s and '80s the "malaise era." Built a couple of years before the original, Academy Award-winning Ghostbusters hit cinemas, the '82 DeVille represents one of Cadillac's lowest points bar the Cimarron. Under its hood might be Cadilac's new-for-1982 HT 4100 V8 engine, which featured what the brand referred to as "digital" fuel injection. With 135 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, the DeVille didn't win stoplight races back then. Oddly, the V6 engine that came standard in the '82 Sedan DeVille produced the same horsepower but delivered an extra 15 torques, which made it both faster and more fuel efficient than the V8. These were bad times for General Motors, clearly, but the gas engines paled in comparison to Cadillac's first diesel. The company's LF9 5.7-liter diesel V8 was optional on the DeVille and we pity the unlucky buyers who checked that box. Generally credited as the engine that made "diesel" a haunted word in Detroit for 30 years, the 350-cubic-inch unit might actually be fitting for the Ghostbusters. On the bright side, the '82 is new enough that it may have carried a box or two of Hi-C's stellar, Ghostbusters-inspired Ecto Cooler. Maybe the mortician took his kid to Kroger one time, you never know. Fitting in In the original 1984 Ghostbusters, the '59 Caddy was a forlorn and forgotten piece of machinery waiting for a new lease on life. Character Dr. Ray Stantz picks it up and admits in the film that it needs "some suspension work and shocks ...

2019 Autoblog Technology of the Year finalists revealed

Fri, Jan 4 2019

Every fall, we line up a range of new models with the latest and most compelling automotive technology from the past year. We test everything from semi-autonomous systems like Tesla's Autopilot to trick suspension setups like the Multimatic spool-valve shocks on the Chevy Colorado ZR2. We spend months paring down the list to a small group of contenders. After testing, dinner and healthy debate, we tally up the votes and name our winner. For Autoblog's 2019 Technology of the Year Award, our three finalists are the Cadillac CT6 with Super Cruise, the Infiniti QX50 with Variable Compression Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG E 53 with EQ Boost. Super Cruise is an advanced SAE Level 2 semi-autonomous system, though Cadillac (unlike some of its rivals) is reluctant to push that point. Cadillac would like you to think of this as an advanced driver assistance feature rather than a semi-autonomous system. Super Cruise allows completely hands-free highway driving. Thanks to a driver-facing camera, the system forces the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road even if hands are off the wheel. Although the CT6 is being discontinued, look for Super Cruise to make its way to other Cadillacs soon. VC Turbo is a little more complicated. Basically, Infiniti's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four can vary the compression ratio on the fly. In general, turbocharged engines are more efficient than naturally-aspirated engines when on boost, but can perform worse at low revs. VC Turbo allows for a best-of-both-worlds situation, increasing the compression at low revs and backing it off once the turbo spools up. The best part is that it does so seamlessly, with only a dash readout letting you know what's going on under the hood. Our third finalist is the EQ Boost 48-volt system in the Mercedes-AMG E 53. Like VC Turbo, EQ Boost does a lot just beneath the surface. Mercedes has developed a new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and paired it with a small electric motor. While the car can't run on electricity alone, the motor helps improve both efficiency and performance, smoothing shifts and filling in low-end torque before the turbos spool up. Think torque fill, similar to a McLaren P1. Who can complain about better fuel economy and more torque? Look for the 48-volt system to make its way into most of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The winner will be revealed next week on Autoblog, and we'll present the award Jan. 15 at the Detroit Auto Show. Related Video:

Cadillac teases production ELR ahead of Detroit Auto Show

Tue, 18 Dec 2012

General Motors has just confirmed that the 2014 Cadillac ELR will make its official debut next month at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. We've already seen the ELR testing earlier this year using the same range-extended electric drive system as the Chevrolet Volt, and based on the shadowy image above, we're happy to see that the coupe's styling has stayed pretty true to 2009 Converj Concept.
The two-door ELR will be built alongside the Volt at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant starting later next year. Aside from this info, Cadillac has remained tight-lipped on the specific details of the car. But all that will all change on January 15.
Until then, all we have to offer you is the press release posted after the jump.
