Low Reserve - 1951 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood

This is a gorgeous 1951 Cadillac “Series 60” Fleetwood Sedan, 331 V8, 56k. It was used as a movie car on several occasions. The car also won awards at local car shows. Options include fuel filler under pop-up rear tail lens, dual "trumpet" horns, clock, AM radio and power antenna.

This is from Wikipedia.com:

"The big news at Cadillac in 1951 centered on engineering, with the release of a new overhead valve V8 engine. This 331 in? engine produced 160 hp (119 kW). The features list included handbrake, warning lamp; key start ignition; steering column cover; Delco-Remy generator; knee-action front suspension; directionals; mechanical fuel pump; dual downdraft carburetor; slipper-type pistons; rubber engine mountings; oversize brakes; Super Cushion tires; one-piece windshield; intake silencer; 160-hp engine; oil bath air cleaner; equalized manifolding; automatic choke and luxury appointments. A larger luggage compartment lid was seen on all sedans except early production units. Standard equipment now included twin back-up lamps mounted on the deck lid latch panel. The Fleetwood models featured extra chrome accents and interior appointments, a particularly popular model among collectors."

Mechanical: the Caddy has always been meticulously cared for, all service and regular maintenance have been performed on schedule. I bought the Fleetwood from a friend of the family who no longer drives, he's had it in his garage out in Long Island since the 70's. He insists the 56k on the odometer is original, my mechanic thinks it is genuine as well. The drive train was rebuilt in the mid 90's, under 10k on motor and transmission. Recent work includes brake system overhaul including brake lines and wheel cylinders, rebuilt carburetor, refurbished gas tank, fuel lines and new belts and hoses.. The lights work, the heater works, the radio works needs a new speaker. Clock does not work, horn does. The narrower whitewall radials are on the car now as seen in the bottom pix, I will include a second set of hubcaps as well. All the glass is in very good shape, the crank windows all work well.

Cosmetic: It has a recent black paint job with a deep jade metal flake glitter. This was a professional paint job, the body was taken down to bare metal with no bodywork necessary. It looks amazing in the sunshine and the body as straight as an arrow. The bumpers were rechromed as well but the grill and some of the brightwork are showing light pitting. The underside is clean, frame, floor and trunk are solid. The interior was redone at some point as well but is beginning to show its age. The carpet could use replacing, driver's door armrest is beginning to curl up and there is a two inch seam opening on the bottom of the driver's seat. The headliner, dashboard and interior overall is in very good "driver" condition. The car has never seen winter, it's always been a "Garage Queen".

The engine starts easily even after sitting for weeks and the garage floor is always dry when I pull the car out. She cruises nicely on the highway, shifts smoothly, idles evenly and the suspension is silky smooth over the roughest roads. On the highway she'll get 13-15 MPG, pretty good for an early 50's luxury cruiser. The directional/brake/turn signal/headlights/brights work properly. Drives overall like an American classic luxury cruiser should.

I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Caddy is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates. Rare classic Cadillac which will only appreciate in value! 2013 Cadillac XTS [w/video]

The Cadillac Of Stopgaps
As confusing as most alphanumeric car names have gotten in recent years, at least one constant has been that the letter "X" is generally indicative of a crossover. Then why did General Motors use this letter on its new 2013 Cadillac XTS luxury sedan? Well, for that, we'll have to look to the world of mathematics where "X" stands for an unknown variable or a placeholder. Now we're talking. The XTS is just an interim product sitting at the top of Cadillac's four-door food chain until the brand gets a true flagship in place. That sounds like a lot of resources to spend on what will likely be a one-and-done model, but the automaker needed to get something - anything - to replace the DTS.
So here you have the 2013 XTS. A big luxury sedan that was created to bridge the gap between Cadillac's recent past and its pending future. Going into our week with this XTS knowing that it was a stopgap measure proved to be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, we know (or hope) that this car will act as a baseline for future high-end Cadillac models, but at the same time, we couldn't help but be mindful of past stopgap models, albeit in more entry-level segments, like the Cimarron and Catera.

Cadillac chief says ATS convertible, wagon on the table

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

What we do know is that the ATS will wear at least one more bodystyle. That comes from Cadillac head Bob Ferguson, who answered "Absolutely" when Automotive News asked him about the possibility of another variant. What we don't know is what that bodystyle or styles will be.
We now have a sedan and coupe ATS, there's supposedly a V sedan coming. After that, a convertible is a likely option given that the man who just became the global product honcho at General Motors, Mark Reuss, admitted to having one already designed in 2012. The decision on it can't get out of the underworld and a wagon is the other option, but the droptop would seem to make the most sense if one considers the competitive set: the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5 convertibles are hot property and Mercedes is bringing a C-Class convertible. Meanwhile wagons are the sentimental utility vehicles that, refusing to die, seem forever destined for life support... CTS Sport Wagon, anyone?
Based on Ferguson's statements, it appears that what Cadillac definitely won't do is play model variant catch-up with the European luxury brands it has spent years hunting down, telling Automotive News, "We want to keep our focus on a limited number of vehicles and do them very well."

Cars with the most reckless drivers are full of surprises

Wed, Oct 13 2021

Insurify is a site for comparing auto insurance quotes. Because insurance shoppers need to submit information like the vehicles they're driving and the infractions they've compiled while driving those vehicles, Insurify has quite the database of correlations tying certain models to a habit of breaking certain laws. When the site's data analysts decided to compile a list of the top ten models for reckless driving citations in the decade from 2010 to 2019, the ranking contained a few wild entries. The Dodge Challenger making the countdown will surprise precisely zero people. But the Saturn L200? First, a definition: USLegal.com defines reckless driving as "driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety. It is the operation of an automobile under such circumstances and in such a manner as to show a willful or reckless disregard of consequences." So this list is a caution about particular drivers more than the cars. For a baseline, according to Insurify data, for any random model, 15 out of 10,000 people who drive that model have picked up one citation for reckless driving. Back to that Challenger, then. No shocker for being here, but it's actually number 10, with 44 out of 10,000 Challenger drivers nabbed for a willful disregard of consequences on the road. That's better than the first surprise entry, the Saturn L200, a sedan only on sale for six years, with the least horsepower on the list, and out of production since 2005. The data set put drivers of GM's extraterrestrial sedan at 45 reckless pilots per 10,000 drivers. There are two pickups on the list, the only modern one being the Ram 1500 at eighth, with a rate of 46 in 10,000. Somehow, drivers of the third-best-selling pickup in the U.S. outrun the overwhelming numerical superiority of the best-selling vehicle in the States, the Ford F-150. The other pickup is the Chevrolet K1500 at number five, with a rate of 56 in 10,000. This is not only the oldest vehicle on the list, it went out of production in 2002, before any other vehicle on the list. Between the trucks, the Volkswagen CC slotted in at seven with 47 in 10,000 reckless driving chits, the Cadillac ATS slipped into sixth with 48 in 10,000.  The top four is a bag of unexpected. The Nissan 370Z is the first hardcore sports car on the list at number four, with 61 in 10,000 Z drivers flaunting their Fairladys in the face of Johnny Law.
