I'm selling my beautiful classic 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special. I acquired this prewar survivor about 5 years ago out of a barn where it was stored most of its life. I consider this car in driver condition. It was repainted in the 60's and does have chips, thin spots in the paint and dings expected with a car of this age. The car has not been restored although I did have the original 348 flathead engine totally machined and sleeved back to the original bore and specs including hardened valves and seats to operate on todays gasoline's. The 348 ci engine (also used in tanks during the war) is backed by the first year Cadillac offered as an option, automatic transmission which is quite rare. 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special, this is the Bill Mitchell designed car. Complete rebuild on the 346 ci engine, resleeved to original bore, all new internal parts. New white wall radial tires with under 100 miles look good with the original restored hubcaps. Engine, frame and body numbers all match. Factory equipped optional automatic trans., heater works nice, most everything works except the radio although it does power on. I just didn't have time to repair it. Drives down the road nice, starts and runs nice. It looks to have been repainted and new interior installed in the 1960s. The body tag shows the paint to be a two tone grey from the factory. I acquired it right out of storage where it was stored in 1971, I have pictures as it was removed. This is one of the last of the prewar cars in good solid survivor shape. The chrome is not show quality as it has pitting, but everything there to work with if you should decide to restore it. I enjoy driving it in this "driver" condition. I'm amazed by the public's looks and thumbs up's on every drive. Also be prepared to make time for those who want pictures with it also. You'll see. Cadillac ATS was almost front-wheel drive
Wed, 03 Apr 2013"We were going to do a front-wheel drive Cadillac compact off of Delta because it was going to be less expensive," Doug Parks, General Motors' vice president of global product programs, told the Automotive News during the Detroit Auto Show in January of this year. That sentence, referring to early ATS discussions more than five years ago - a period when the automaker, and the industry, was struggling - reveals that Cadillac's highly acclaimed rear-wheel drive compact sedan almost never happened.
Parks revealed that that automaker actually built a 2.0-liter test mule, on GM's Delta platform (shared with the Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Verano) and tested it in Europe. While the prototype was "pretty darn good," according to Parks, the team realized that in order to compete against Mercedes-Benz and BMW it would have to invest in a new rear-wheel drive platform.
The resulting all-new Alpha platform would eventually underpin the Cadillac ATS, and many would argue that its balanced rear-wheel drive chassis is its single most important attribute. Thankfully, the Alpha's goodness won't stop with the ATS. The upcoming 2014 Cadillac CTS and the future Camaro will also share its architecture, meaning the Cimarron will remain a distant memory.
Cadillac Elmiraj Concept brings big coupe style to Pebble Beach [w/videos]
Thu, 15 Aug 2013Two years ago, Cadillac absolutely floored us with the debut of its gorgeous Ciel concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. And since that droptop four-door's debut, we've seen plenty of its design language worked into the latest Cadillac products. Now, we're seriously hoping that history will repeat itself with this stunning new Elmiraj coupe concept, which makes its first public appearance in Monterey this week.
Cadillac states that the Elmiraj concept simply showcases the next step forward for the brand's Art & Science design DNA, and doesn't necessarily preview an upcoming model. But if you told us the Elmiraj was a conceptual look at the next-generation CTS Coupe, or a smaller, two-door version of a new flagship, we'd believe you. At 207 inches long, 76 inches wide and 55 inches tall, its dimensions are only slightly larger than the current two-door CTS.
Regardless of what the Elmiraj does or does not become, it's certainly a fantastic modern interpretation of the classic GT formula with its short front overhang, long hood, rakish roofline and petite rear deck. The strong character lines running along the sides and exaggerated 22-inch wheels round out the beautiful coupe, and Cadillac's signature vertical LED lighting elements are found at the front and rear. Also take note: the badge on the grille is a crest without a wreath, basically confirming our earlier report.
Cadillac to vie for Secret Service armored car contract, new Beast?
Wed, 03 Jul 2013President Obama has used the same armored limo since his inauguration in 2008. Known by many as The Beast, the Presidential Limo was provided by Cadillac and earned its nickname in large part because of its massive size, which isn't surprising considering that its Caddy-shaped bodywork is said to sit atop a heavy-duty truck chassis.
It seems the Secret Service may be in the market for a Beast replacement, having issued a request for proposals for a new armored limo. According to Motor Trend, Obama's backup limo is a leftover from the Bush Administration, so it will be interesting to see if this new machine will serve as a replacement for The Beast or for its backup. The contract is to be awarded by September 29, 2013.
The boys from MT contacted Cadillac, Lincoln and Chrysler, and Chrysler is the only one that would confirm that it is not pursuing the contract. Cadillac may have the inside track, as it has provided Presidential limos since 1993, but Lincoln also has a long and storied history of chauffeuring the President.
