1940 Cadillac Sixty Special.

A very high-point example of the iconic Cadillac Sixty Special. Recognized as a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America, this is a car that will be welcome at any exhibition event and is fully capable of safe, reliable travel in modern traffic. It was originally purchased by the famed, Oscar- winning actor, Charles Coburn at the height of his long acting career. The car includes documentation and memorabilia dating back to Mr. Coburn"s purchase along with photo and receipt restoration data.

Introduced in 1938, the Sixty Special was a radical departure for Cadillac and the entire luxury car field. In 1940 the Sixty Special was elevated to the top-of-the-line Fleetwood Series with added status and upgraded appointments. This model was the first truly “modern” sedan that set the design standard that still dominates the shape of cars today. Up until the Sixty Special, luxury cars had strap-on trunks and were intended to be chauffeur driven…this car changed all that. The owner was the driver, engaged in the operation of a trimmer, modern, integrated body and chassis. With a war-proven L- head V-8 connected to a smooth, 3-speed transmission operated by a column mounted shifter, Cadillac and the Sixty Special began the process of leaving the other luxury makers in their rear-view mirror. This car is one of only 4302 produced and is a highly respected car in all collector circles

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. Cadillac considering more radical ATS-V

Cadillac is stepping up its performance game with the launch of the new ATS-V and CTS-V, but it's not about to rest on the laurels it removed from its own badge. While it's tipped to launch additional V models in the future, the latest word is Caddy could also come out with an even more extreme version of the ATS-V in the near future. According to Car and Driver, the prospect is on the table: "We might have something down the road that is a little bit more aggressive," chief engineer Dave Leone said, while another source pegged its potential arrival for 2017. It's too early to say what would constitute the more extreme model. The magazine points toward the Mercedes-AMG Black Series as an example. Jaguar took a similarly extreme approach with the XKR-S GT, as BMW has with the M3 GTS. As it is, the ATS-V is offered in both coupe and sedan variants with a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 464 horsepower channeled to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Cadillac reportedly considered employing a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, but went the old-school route to avoid excess weight and (no doubt) cost.

GM to make most cars LTE hotspots for 2015

General Motors isn't the first automaker to deliver in-car Internet access, but a proposed plan announced today could make the technology more widespread than any of its competitors have offered. By the 2015 model year, most Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC products in the US and Canada will offer 4G LTE mobile broadband access. Initially, GM will just be pairing with AT&T to deliver this service, but additional carriers will be revealed in the future.
Current in-car Wi-Fi hot spots are limited to 3G, but GM says that 4G LTE is 10 times faster than 3G service and will allow for full Internet access, including streaming video for entertainment as well as services like real-time traffic updates and navigation driving directions. There is also no need for a paired smartphone with this new system, which should make it easier to use, and GM and AT&T will also be working together to develop new apps for customers.
Buyers can expect to start seeing 4G LTE in their cars starting next year, and GM is already planning to expand the service to other global markets as well. All of the information from GM's announcement is posted in a press release below.
