GM design boss Welburn says Lincoln isn't a Cadillac rival [w/poll]
Thu, 05 Dec 2013General Motors Vice President of Global Design, Ed Welburn, had some dismissive words for a certain cross-town luxury brand during an interview with Car and Driver. When asked about his thoughts on Lincoln, Welburn deflected, before saying, "I don't consider Lincoln to be a competitor for Cadillac."
"They're not a global luxury brand. I don't consider them a competitor. Are they a competitor for Buick? Quite possibly. But not for Cadillac," GM's head designer explained. Welburn, who's been at the helm of GM Design North America since 2003 and is the first to hold the position of VP of Global Design, has been instrumental in the styling renaissance at GM, so predictably, Car and Driver's interview with him focused on the design aspect of cars.
During the interview, Welburn explicitly denied plans for a reborn Cadillac XLR, even as a new Chevrolet Corvette is hitting the market and strides are being made with Cadillac's V-Series performance arm saying, "We have a lot of cars that we're working on for the Cadillac brand. The XLR is not one of them right now."
Cadillac cancels sponsorship of Trump's PGA event
Thu, Jun 2 2016Cadillac has ended its sponsorship of the PGA's World Golf Championship, which has incited a response from Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Without the automaker's money to run the event at a property owned by Trump in Miami, the PGA announced it will move the WGC to Mexico City. Trump responded by saying, "Cadillac's been a great sponsor, but they're moving it to Mexico. They're moving it to Mexico City which, by the way, I hope they have kidnapping insurance. They're moving it to Mexico City. And I'm saying, you know, what's going on here? It is so sad when you look at what's going on with our country." In 2010, the PGA announced a multi-year deal with Cadillac to sponsor the WGC, starting in 2011. Since 2007, the event has been held at what is now known as the Trump National Doral Miami location. Trump took ownership of the property in 2012. Cadillac issued a statement to Autoblog that says: "We are proud to have been the title sponsor of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship since 2011. We have made the decision, however, not to extend our sponsorship beyond this year. We thank the PGA TOUR for a great six years with the Cadillac Championship." Cadillac Offering $100 For Test Drives

Cadillac is hoping to jumpstart sluggish sales with a generous offer to customers to get them into dealerships and perhaps behind the wheel of their very own Caddy. Cadillac is giving a $100 gift card to any insured car owners age 21 or older who drive non-GM vehicles built after 2004, WDIV reported. If you buy a Cadillac, the automaker is offering an additional $1,500 plus other incentives. Such sales promotions have worked well in the past, analysts told The Detroit News. Cadillac had strong sales last year, but sales are down 7.3 percent this quarter compared to the first quarter last year. Cadillac will run the promotion until the end of the month.
