This immaculate Eldorado Biarritz only has 30k miles.

This would be the last year for this Eldorado body which made it's debut in the fall of 1978(1979-1985). The exclusive Convertible Biarritz was made in very limited numbers in 1984 and 1985 only, and was the highest priced GM production car, even surpassing the Corvette's price tag. If ever there was a car that automotive enthusiasts and non-automotive enthusiasts alike will come together on, the Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz is the one. Most will agree that this is one of the best looking cars ever created. It get's approving comments whenever it is driven from the young, old, male, and female alike about how great looking it is. That makes a strong statement about the future collectability of these Eldorados.

This beautiful Body style will long live as one of Cadillac’s most exclusive offerings. With only a two year run (84-85) this Eldorado is one of only 2,300 produced in 1985. Most were white with red leather. The Biarritz Convertible was the highest priced GM car in 1985, with a window sticker of $32,286 whereas the entry price for a regular Eldorado was $20,342. The Convertible pricing made the production limits realistic for the times.

Viewed through the long lens of history, these Eldorados continue to get better looking as the years go by. A unique ensemble of Cadillac tradition in design. The demand for this body amongst collectors has never been higher. Cadillac aficionados are snapping the best examples up for their collections. Most prefer to own the last year of a body style and 1985 was the very last year for this incredible body. From a design standpoint, this was GM at it's finest hour. These Eldorados were the last of a classic style era which will never be produced again.

I have had the privilege of owning several of these Biarritz Convertibles in my 20+ years of Cadillac collecting, and this particular example is hands down the best firemist Convertible I have ever owned. This Biarritz was an estate car from a collector that has owned this car since 1987. With only 30k miles, this Cadillac needs no excuses and stands well to be a very lucrative long term investment.

There was a factory upcharge for the Autumn Maple Firemist paint, and personally I think it is the sharpest of the four color choices offered on the 1985 Convertible.

Rub strips are like new with no scrapes. Lenses are perfect.

This Cadillac has been professionally detailed and could be put directly into a car show as it sits.

GM's highest paint process and quality control went into the Corvettes and the Cadillac division.

No worries of cracking filler panels around the bumpers, these were just professionally replaced front and back.

Class at every angle.

.

Again, beautiful chrome with no rubs on the bumper rub strips. Body is laser straight. Very glossy paint.

Convertible top in excellent condition. No loose stitching anywhere.

Standard of Excellence

Not a single door ding in this Cadillac. None.

Perfect factory stance

Time capsule.

The rear of the car having definite styling cues from the 67-70 Eldorados.

I would hop in this car and drive it anywhere.

No curb rash on any of the wire wheels.

The leather in this car is amazing.

Leather perfection

This Eldorado is so fresh. Door panels are plump and free of cracks. Door jambs and hinge area are free of any rust or corrosion all the way around.

30k miles. Perfect Carfax on this Cadillac

Has all of the original floor mats plus the trunk mat.

This Cadillac runs very smooth and quiet and shifts beautifully. Ice cold Air conditioning was just switched over to R134. New belts, alternator and battery. Also just had a fresh tune-up and oil change. Very tight driving car.

Books and LOTS of records.

Original trunk mat and black vinyl parade boot cover.

Rear quarter windows go up and down quickly unlike several I have owned that were REAL slow. Notice the factory security system sticker.

Bid with confidence, win with high expectations!

2016 Cadillac CTS-V First Drive [w/video]

Fri, Jul 31 2015

A million insects lost their lives today. Boxelder bugs and mayflies making the ultimate sacrifice in Elkhart Lake, their carapaces no buffer against a rocketing rectangle of safety glass. Their bodies gorily streaking into spangles along the diamond-faceted face of the Cadillac CTS-V. Road America is a four-mile ribbon of pavement snaking its way through the emerald center of the country's northern heartland. Since the 1950s it's seen uncountable fields of diverse racing machinery rocket over its hills and around its 14 corners. I would imagine that on those occasions the tramping of onlookers and hubbub of vehicles, both competitive and commonplace, would dissuade a great number of our six-legged friends from making their way onto the track. But today it's just me turning laps. Inconceivably just one journalist, driving the baddest roadgoing Cadillac ever made, on one of the loveliest circuits America has ever carved out. So big-winged bugs made it out to me in a vast array and a tragic sum, and I drilled through them oblivious to anything but one of the greatest days of driving I've ever had. Cadillac has turned its CTS-V from a performance sedan to a monster. For 2016 Cadillac has turned its CTS-V from a performance sedan to a monster worthy of the carnage described above. The words "epic" and "awesome" are hilariously overused on the Internet, but in the case of the CTS-V's 6.2-liter supercharged V8, their literal meanings are fitting. The capacity to produce 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque is astounding. Feeling those outputs come to growling life under my foot arch, uncorks different reactions in my brain as the day wears on: first trepidation, next cautious optimism, finally red-eyed bloodlust. A glance at the power and torque curves will show you that the charged V8 behaves more like a naturally aspirated thing than a turbo'd on/off switch. Peak torque arrives at 3,600 rpm, horsepower at 6,400, giving the engine lovely, linear power delivery. Even with top torque happening near the middle of the tach, there's no small amount of the stuff when the engine first spins up, so launching all 4,145 pounds of Detroit iron still feels exotic. Launching all 4,145 pounds of Detroit iron still feels exotic. On the roads around Wisconsin, using all of the available power is hardly advisable, but I have no trouble driving this fast car slowly (sort of).

Fullsize GM SUVs have a problem that's making owners sick

Thu, Dec 31 2015

Some fullsize SUV owners are getting sick, thanks to a buffeting and vibration problem in 2015 model year examples of the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Yukon. According to owners' complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue can vary from an annoying vibration inside the cabin to an experience so severe that it leads to dizziness and headaches. General Motors is aware of the complaints, but the fix isn't so simple. According to spokesperson Tom Wilkinson to Autoblog, the company "has been tracking this issue for a while." The problem has a fairly low incidence rate, but when it does occur the issue can be "uncomfortable and annoying for owners." There's no precise cause for the issue, Wilkinson claims, and in some cases, simply balancing the tires or changing the door seals can make it go away. However, not all of the fixes are so simple. AutoGuide dug deep into the problem and discovered a GM preliminary information bulletin that advised dealers to remove the headliner and to check the roof's bonds to the bows that go across the vehicle. However, that document included a note that the solution might not entirely eliminate things. According to AutoGuide, adding Dynamat insulation to the roof sometimes helped the problem. A GM spokesperson also told AutoGuide the company fixed the problem at the end of the 2015 model year, and didn't go into any more detail. This roof issue seems linked to some of the worst droning in these SUVs. According to one complaint from a 2015 Suburban owner to NHTSA: "Roof will not remain attached to the roof bows. This causes the buffeting similar to a window being down when all are up. The results span from annoying to painful." A 2015 Yukon owner claims to have another alleged cause for the problem in a NHTSA complaint from February 2015. This person brought their SUV to the dealer seven times over the course of four weeks for vibrations. The dealer replaced the driveshaft, suspension components, and more, but nothing worked. According to an engineer to the service adviser: "In an effort to prevent roll overs, they designed the frame and body mounts too stiff. There are 40 engineers working on issues, they have no solutions that work across the board." Wilkinson told Autoblog that GM is working with customers on an individual basis to rectify things. Since these are newer vehicles, dealers should also fix the problem under warranty.

General Motors could turn Hamtramck into its electric pickup, SUV hub

Fri, Nov 15 2019

Electric off-roaders could revitalize the Detroit-Hamtramck factory that General Motors previously announced it will close. While official details remain shrouded in secrecy, analysts believe the plant will be re-tooled to manufacture at least three electric models due out during the early 2020s. The plant's scheduled closure was one of the grievances the United Auto Workers (UAW) union cited when it embarked on a 40-day strike in September 2019. General Motors agreed to keep it open without shedding much light on what it planned to build there. Analyst at LMC Automotive told the The Detroit News they believe an often-rumored electric SUV that will resurrect Hummer's name, image, or both will be one of the models assigned to the Hamtramck plant. Battery-powered variants of the GMC Sierra and the Cadillac Escalade will be made there, too, as will an enigmatic van. LMC Automotive's Jeff Schuster believes the van will come first; it could enter production as early as 2021. The Hummer — which might also be offered as a pickup — will follow before the end of 2022, while the Sierra and the Escalade will both arrive in 2023. We're taking this report with a grain of salt, though, because only one of the aforementioned models has been announced by General Motors. Rumors of a Hummer resurrection emerged in the summer of 2019, just a few weeks before we heard unverified reports of a battery-powered variant of the next-generation Escalade. General Motors confirmed plans to enter the burgeoning electric pickup truck segment, which Ford, Rivian, and Tesla also have their sights on, but it hasn't detailed how or when. The van is a mystery. General Motors refused to comment on the report. It previously announced it will keep Hamtramck open, and invest $3 billion to build electric vehicles there. The investment will create 2,225 jobs. Inaugurated in February 1985, the Hamtramck factory has churned out a diverse selection of models over the past 34 years, including Cadillac's Eldorado, Seville, and Allante, the Oldsmobile Toronado, the Buick Riviera, and more recently, gasoline-electric Chevrolet Volt. General Motors announced plans to close Hamtramck in 2018, but it quickly backpedaled and extended its lease on life until 2020 by keeping the Chevrolet Impala and the Cadillac CT6 around for a few additional months.
