Well cars like this one just don’t come around every day, and the good ones are super hard to find!  Here is one worth looking at for your personal collection or weekend car show cruiser, and/or weekend pleasure car…

Two owners only on this one and still owned by the same family since 1987.   The car was mostly used for “Show and Tell”, car shows, cruises, etc., and was very babied by its meticulous collector owner, which it shows!

These cars were the “king of the road” back in 1977, and this Eldorado is fully loaded, with nearly all available options for the year including the highly desirable Biarritz trim package, a dealer installed Sunroof, Power Seats with Power Recliner on the Passenger Seat, AM/FM Stereo Radio with 8 Track Player and Power Antenna, Cruise Control, Automatic Climate Control,  Power Windows, Locks, Steering, Brakes, and gorgeous leather interior with no cracks and very little signs of wear, with contrasting red dash and red carpeting.  The chrome Cadillac OEM hubcaps really set it off too!  They are newly restored and have no scratches or imperfections, and were installed last week to replace faded original ones.  They are ready for the new owner to enjoy!

Still also, you will be pleased to note that even the Cruise Control and Power Antenna work, commonly inoperable in these cars.

The car is super comfortable, has quite a bit of power for such a large car, and drives quietly, straight, and smooth.  The engine and transmission perform as they should with no issues.  The Air Conditioner blow cold and the Heater hot and the interior blower fan works perfectly on all speeds, and turns off and/or on as needed and as required based upon the setting on the thermostat.  Next, all interior and exterior lighting works, even the outside opera lamps mounted on the vinyl roof!  All of the windows and door locks work.  The stereo plays beautifully and all speakers are alive with great sound.

The car was carefully maintained over the years, with many records since 1987 available to the new owner.

Some of the notable items serviced are:

·         Repainted front and rear bumper fillers

·         Driver’s side and passenger’s side interior door panels for show quality!

·         Generator

·         Radiator

·         Coker Wide Whitewall Tires

·         Interior Armrests

·         Brakes, including pads, hoses, rotors

·         Routine service of all fluids as needed.

·         Engine exhaust manifold

·         Valve Cover Gaskets

·         Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser (R12)

Next of all, the car was just fully inspected and serviced by a veteran Cadillac Master Technician, and the following items were performed dated 4/12/14, in preparation of the car for its next owner and as part of a “Spring Service” :

1.     Changed oil and filter – Synthetic Oil

Dexos 5w30.

2.    Removed carburetor from the engine and fully rebuilt and overhauled it.

3.    Replaced spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, and rotor.  Other details along these lines for optimum performance.

4.    Replaced mechanical advance and vacuum advance, and set timing.

5.    Replaced vacuum lines and PCV valve.

6.    Replaced grommet for engine breather on left side.

7.    Charged AC, added oil and 3 1/2 lbs. of R-12.

8.    Lubed all hinges and latches.

9.    Replaced left front turn/park lamp, socket, and bulb.

10.  Installed OEM restored chrome finish hubcaps for a “fresh” look.  Original caps with white centers will go with the car to the next owner.

11.  Topped off coolant level.

12.  Lubed speedometer cable.

Car is in amazingly solid condition for the year and for the age.  Mileage is low, and original!

Our mechanic also observed a few items that will still need attention soon, including:

·         CV Axle Boots

·         Front control arm bushings and ball joints.

·         Rear control arm bushings.

·         Transmission pan gasket replacement – a few drips a week from this area on the garage floor.

·         Oil pan gasket replacement – no drips on garage floor at this time, but precaution for the future.

·         Original clock isn’t working but twice daily when it is 8:00!

·         Passenger Side Vanity Mirror doesn’t illuminate.

·         Sunroof currently doesn’t open or close, but sunshade inside can be manually opened or closed.  The glass portion will not move.   The sunroof does not leak.

In the interest of disclosure, these are the only items found on the car in need attention soon.   Cosmetically, the car presents super well to everyone and the paint is in good condition.  It was repainted some time ago, and still has a lot of luster and shine.  The vinyl top also shows well, and remains supple and soft, but has two small cracks along the trim belt line as shown via the link to the "more photos" via Photobucket below.  In the interest of originality, I wouldn't worry about it at this point as the car shows fine and many don't even notice the imperfection, but keep this in mind for the future.

Meanwhile, check out the link to added photos of the car, from many aspects and angles:

Fullsize GM SUVs have a problem that's making owners sick

Thu, Dec 31 2015

Some fullsize SUV owners are getting sick, thanks to a buffeting and vibration problem in 2015 model year examples of the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Yukon. According to owners' complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue can vary from an annoying vibration inside the cabin to an experience so severe that it leads to dizziness and headaches. General Motors is aware of the complaints, but the fix isn't so simple. According to spokesperson Tom Wilkinson to Autoblog, the company "has been tracking this issue for a while." The problem has a fairly low incidence rate, but when it does occur the issue can be "uncomfortable and annoying for owners." There's no precise cause for the issue, Wilkinson claims, and in some cases, simply balancing the tires or changing the door seals can make it go away. However, not all of the fixes are so simple. AutoGuide dug deep into the problem and discovered a GM preliminary information bulletin that advised dealers to remove the headliner and to check the roof's bonds to the bows that go across the vehicle. However, that document included a note that the solution might not entirely eliminate things. According to AutoGuide, adding Dynamat insulation to the roof sometimes helped the problem. A GM spokesperson also told AutoGuide the company fixed the problem at the end of the 2015 model year, and didn't go into any more detail. This roof issue seems linked to some of the worst droning in these SUVs. According to one complaint from a 2015 Suburban owner to NHTSA: "Roof will not remain attached to the roof bows. This causes the buffeting similar to a window being down when all are up. The results span from annoying to painful." A 2015 Yukon owner claims to have another alleged cause for the problem in a NHTSA complaint from February 2015. This person brought their SUV to the dealer seven times over the course of four weeks for vibrations. The dealer replaced the driveshaft, suspension components, and more, but nothing worked. According to an engineer to the service adviser: "In an effort to prevent roll overs, they designed the frame and body mounts too stiff. There are 40 engineers working on issues, they have no solutions that work across the board." Wilkinson told Autoblog that GM is working with customers on an individual basis to rectify things. Since these are newer vehicles, dealers should also fix the problem under warranty.

Lansing builds its millionth Cadillac

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Cadillacs are built at plants across North America. The Escalade is assembled in Texas, the SRX in Mexico and the XTS in Ontario. But the bulk of Cadillac's lineup - or the smaller members of the family, at least - are built in Michigan. And while the upcoming ELR will be built alongside the Chevy Volt at the Detroit/Hamtramck facility (which incidentally opened with the Cadillac Eldorado back in '86), the majority of those Cadillacs built in Michigan are handled by the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant.
In fact, Lansing Grand River just celebrated its millionth Cadillac built. The landmark millionth vehicle is a new 2014 CTS sedan in Red Obsession Tintcoat. The facility opened in 2001 and has built Cadillacs almost exclusively since then, assembling the CTS and ATS model lines, though in a couple of years it will also handle production of the Chevy Camaro.
