Up for auction is my 1975 Cadillac El Dorado convertible. In my opinion, it is a very nice driver condition car that could use some minor tlc. 97K original miles running and driving car. It has all 4 new shocks on it and new sway bar bushings in the front. The interior is in excellent condition. No cracks in the dash. door pads are very nice. Original leather seats showing minimal wear and power seat that works. Carpet has some sun fading to it. The power windows all work and so does the power locks. It has cruise control, tilt and telescoping wheel. I have not tested the cruise though. The exterior of the car has been repainted at some point, back to it's original color as far as i can tell. The bumper extensions have been replaced at a later date and their paint does not match the car too well. The car has a nice shine to it still and looks great. It does have minor chips and scratches in a few places, consistent with it's age. There are also a couple small dings in it, but by no means a beat up old car. It gets lots of looks and attention. The top works but is showing it's age. I believe it to be original also. It is shrinking up on the sides some but not torn up and still does it's job. But you should plan to replace it at some point or store it indoors as i do. Under the hood looks very original but definitely could use detail work. The valve cover gaskets were leaking and new one's were put on but the covers could have been repainted in my opinion. The radiator has been replaced with a new aluminum one. It does have some things that need repaired. The power antenna does not work but it is in the up position and the radio picks up stations fine. The radio does not appear original as it is a cassette player. It does have the original cadillac knobs and the dash was not cut to install it. The a/c is complete and comes on but does not get cold, recharge is needed i'm guessing. The driver's side top latch handle is broken. There is enough left of it that it still latches with no problem, just want you to be aware of all i know. The tires should be replaced. They hold air fine but do show some dry rot and the right front does not match the other 3. It has a jack, but no spare. The horn does not work. There is a minor exhaust leak up front. Once again guessing, but it sounds like a doughnut on driver's side. The car still runs very quiet. Once again, i am trying to list all i know so there are no surprises. There is 1 spot of rust, at the bottom of the right front fender a couple inches long. i did clean out allot of leaves from inside that door jam and i believe that was the issue. It is shown in the pics. That is it for rust. The underside is very clean. All floors, trunk and quarters are very clean too. The chrome shines nice and it has all original hubcaps. I also have the owners manual with it. This is a nice clean car for it's age. I keep it indoors but i need the space. That is why i am listing it for sale. It would be a shame to have it sit outside, it's too nice for that.  Any questions i can be reached at 302-531-5185  Zero feedback bidders must call me first or bid will be deleted. Listed locally and reserve the right to end auction if sold. Car needs to be paid for in 3 days, but can remain here if needed until you are able to pick it up. For a reasonable amount of time, remember i am only selling it because i cannot keep it stored inside much longer. 100% good feedback and i work to keep that. I list all i know and remember about the car, nothing to hide.

What will the next Presidential limo look like?

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

With recent news that the Secret Service has begun soliciting proposals for a new armored limousine, we've been wondering what the next presidential limo might look like. The current machine, nicknamed "The Beast", has a design based on a car that's no longer sold: the Cadillac DTS. If General Motors gets the job again, which wouldn't be a surprise considering the government still owns a chunk of the company, the next limo's shape would likely resemble the new XTS (below, left). But Cadillac hasn't always been the go-to car company for presidential whips.
Lincoln has actually provided far more presidential limousines throughout history than Cadillac. In fact, the first car modified for Commander-in-Chief-carrying duty was a 1939 Lincoln K-Series called "Sunshine Special" used by Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the last Lincoln used by a president was a 1989 Town Car ordered for George H.W. Bush. If President Obama wanted a Lincoln today, it would likely be an amalgam of the MKS sedan and MKT crossover, as illustrated above.
And what about Chrysler? The only record we could find of a President favoring the Pentastar is Nixon, who reportedly ordered two limos from the company during his administration in the '70s, and then another one, known today as the "K-Car limo," in the '80s after he left office. Obama, however, has a personal - if modest - connection to Chryslers, having owned a 300 himself before he took office. A 300-based Beast (above, right) would certainly earn the U.S. some style points.

Cadillac Rear Camera Mirror | 2017 Autoblog Technology of the Year Finalist

Wed, Jan 25 2017

We give Cadillac a lot of credit for being the first to make good on the promise to replace mirrors with cameras and displays. That was good enough to earn the Cadillac Rear Camera Mirror a place on our 2017 Technology of the Year awards shortlist for new features. The idea behind this system is relatively simple; what perhaps took more doing was getting the regulations in place to allow a video feed to replace the government-mandated mirror. The hardware and that rules compliance starts with what looks like a normal rearview mirror – because it defaults to being a mirror until you switch on the display or in the event the system somehow fails. Flip the little toggle at the bottom of the mirror – the one normally used to switch from day to night mode – and the reflection is replaced by a very crisp feed from a camera at the back of the vehicle. This live stream gives you a wide-angle view of what's behind, without obstruction from back-seat passengers, headrests, or any bodywork. The camera is even shielded from weather and has a coating to shed water. What you see doesn't exactly look like a normal reflection, but the quality is good enough and you see more than you would normally with something aimed through today's small rear windows. But because it isn't actually a reflection, you have to make some adjustments. When your eyes are focused down the road, glancing at a mirror gives you a view the same distance away but in the rear. With the rear camera mirror, a glance back requires your eyes to first refocus on the display, which takes a moment. And unlike a normal mirror, which you look through at an angle, this display is angled toward the driver but projecting an image that looks straight back – no matter how you move it, the image doesn't change like a mirror's would. And because it's an image and not a reflection, you can't choose what's in focus and lose your sense of depth perception. It's not clear whether objects in mirror are closer or farther than they appear. And there are other limitations. For instance, while the display balances bright lights and dark surroundings well at night, it is tricked by LED headlights, which flicker at a rate faster than the camera shoots. The result is a distracting strobe effect like you get when you point a smartphone camera at any LED light source. For those with migraine sensitivity, this kind of fast flashing can cause real problems.

Cadillac ATS Crimson Sport Edition is here for a limited run

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

The Cadillac ATS has been a well-received entry into the small sport sedan segment for General Motors' premium brand, but keeping the model fresh is an understandably high priority. A two-door coupe variant is on the way and should help keep interest up, but the line's volume leader is still expected to be the sedan. In order to keep awareness high and sales going, GM will need to lavish a little attention on its four-door, as well. That's where the Crimson Sport Edition comes in.
Crimson Red Metallic paint is the exterior highlight for this special-edition Cadillac, while the interior is complemented with a number of microsuede touchpoints, including the heated steering wheel and shifter. To this point, the car's rich burgundy finish has only been offered on CTS-V Coupe and Sport Wagon models, and brand spokesperson Donny Nordlicht tells Autoblog that this is the first time that the company has offered a microsuede wheel with heat. Four interior trims are also available, although all have been seen previously.
The Crimson Sport will be limited to production this spring, and the trimmings can be added to either the 2.0T Performance or the V6 Premium specifications. Both rear- and all-wheel drive will be available, as well. Prices start at $46,010 for the turbocharged model and $51,010 for the V6 including destination fees, which represents a premium of $2,990 for the extra equipment.
