1971 CADILLAC ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE-1971 was the first year of production for this body style-known as "The Last of the Great American Convertibles". This car is a stunning 2 owner car that was well maintained while the owner was driving it but he died in 1989 and the car was put in dry storage and wasn't driven between 1989 until 2012 (when we bought it). We've spent over $3,000.00 since we bought it replacing items that it needed to make it safe, reliable and road-worthy. It's former owner was very active in our local American Legion so it was used for almost 20 years as a parade car for Flag Day, Veteran's Day and the 4th of July in our hometown-it even has flag holders installed on the right side of each headlight to hold parade flags and a VERY loud PA speaker that's hidden in the grill of the car (Photo #24 shows the Legionnaires getting ready for a parade in 1983). It also has some type of music device with a small keyboard controller that lets you choose from 88 different computerized songs along a parade route. We've installed new tires ($879.00), a complete braking system w/ new rotors, calipers, master cylinder, vacuum booster, brake proportioning valve, and some brake lines ($1,376.00), had it tuned up ($341.00) and the fuel pump was replaced ($247.32). We also had it professionally detailed/cleaned (they cleaned the top and used a cleaner/sealer on it) ($211.00), recently had a new power antenna installed at the stereo place when we couldn't figure out how to turn off the CB radio ($67.00) it was removed but it's all in the trunk if you plan on going cross-country with it.) It currently has an AM/FM Cassette player with what we believe to be the original speakers. It has a strong-running 8.2 L/500 CID engine (365 HP/535 LB-FT) and it shifts well when purring around the city or under full acceleration. It had an oil leak so they replaced the oil pan gasket and they also replaced the transmission pan gasket at that time ($344.00). The car was completely repainted in the original Cambridge Red Metallic in fall of 1987 after a deer incident and it also had it's original vinyl top replaced at that time. The original engine was rebuilt at 138,000 miles by our local Cadillac dealer and it currently shows 56,162 miles (which is actually 156,162 miles in this case) so if my math is correct, it has 18,162 miles on the rebuilt engine. The A/C doesn't blow very cold and the top can be stubborn returning to the "UP" position sometimes (We've had to "assist" it once or twice last year and we don't know where to take it to fix that in this area) We've had the top in the "down" position with the boot installed for well over a year now and the mechanic told us to cycle it up and down frequently to work that out. There are also 3 missing/broken push-down snaps on the boot cover. The top is clean, sealed, and in very good condition but we were told it needs new weatherstripping between the front (2) windows and windshield. There's some plastic worn off the steering wheel and it also has a crack in the vinyl door panel on the driver's side armrest (see picture). The rest of the interior has the amount of wear you'd expect on a 42 year-old original interior but no tears/rips in the leather but shows some wear on the center fold-down armrest. It has no rust on the body but we were told it's had new panels installed under both front seats at some time. So as you can see, it's a very nice car with a few correctable flaws but remember, it's 42 years old and we've driven this car EVERWHERE since we bought it-it's very reliable. You'll love the attention it gets-it's truly a head-turner wherever we take it and it always gets alot of compliments. We've also had it in 4 car shows, 2 PARADES!, and taken it on numerous family trips all over the state without a single problem. Sadly enough, with a daughter starting college next month and another daughter getting married at the end of October, we've being forced by our terrible kids to send our beautiful convertible to a new home. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (920) 585-6633. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!

Your guide to vehicle subscription services

Mon, Oct 1 2018

They might be extremely limited in scope because of location availability, but vehicle subscription services are a growing trend that most luxury manufacturers are jumping on. Plans are expensive, but you're paying for much more than just the car typically. We highlighted four of the larger plans with a few more listed at the end. Care by Volvo Volvo launched its subscription service last year with its brand-new XC40. It was the only vehicle available for a time, but subscribers can now get an S60 sedan as well. Subscriptions are for two years, with the monthly price including insurance, a concierge service, wear-and-tear item replacements and all maintenance. You'll be able to drive 15,000 miles per year with whichever Volvo you choose, and although there are no options to extend that mileage, you can swap cars after a year. Pricing for the XC40 is $650 per month in base trim, while an S60 can be as expensive as $850 for the R-Design. Volvo's plan is to offer more cars soon through the service, but it's relatively limited compared to others right now. Porsche Passport Porsche has two levels in its subscription service: Launch and Accelerate. Launch will cost $2,000 per month and give you access to the Cayman, Boxster, Macan and Cayenne. All of those but the Cayenne can be had in "S" trim as well. Accelerate is where the fun really starts. For $3,000 per month you can choose from a fleet of 911s, including the S, 4S, Cabriolet and Cabriolet S. If those aren't enough, you can also get the Panamera 4S, Macan GTS and Cayenne S. There are no mileage limits and you can change vehicles as often as you'd like. Also included in the price is insurance, repairs, detailing and any maintenance. It might be extremely expensive and limited to Atlanta only, but this subscription service is second-to-none for what you get. Audi Select Audi just launched its subscription car service, and it's offered in one version for a flat fee of $1,395 per month. For that you'll have access to five different cars including the A4, S5 Coupe, A5 Cabriolet, Q5, and Q7. Not a bad range of vehicles, but it would've been neat to see the recently updated A7 in there too. Maybe in time. Like the others, insurance and maintenance are wrapped up in the price. Audi is allowing for unlimited miles and two car swaps per month here. In addition to that, you'll get two days of free rentals through Audi's Silvercar rental agency should you go on a trip.

Here are all the cars GM is axing as part of its restructuring

Tue, Nov 27 2018

GM plans to kill off a couple of great and a few meh cars as part of its restructuring. Here's a rundown of all the cars being phased out of production. None of the vehicles GM axed were SUVs or crossovers. Instead, it was an action reminiscent of what Ford recently decided to do by discontinuing U.S. sales every Blue Oval sedan. GM just didn't explicitly say, "We're killing our cars," like Ford did — probably a smart move by GM. Keep scrolling down to see the full list of deceased GM models. Chevrolet Volt This one was the most surprising of all the cars GM decided to can, primarily because cars with plugs are supposed to be our future. However, maybe consumer demand just isn't quite there yet for a plug-in like the Volt. We came up with all sorts of ideas for what was to blame for the untimely demise of the Volt, so go check that out for a full breakdown of the situation. Cadillac CT6 Here's another car we'll be sad to see go. Cadillac's flagship sedan was such a joy to drive, and it served as the conduit to deliver GM's semi-autonomous Super Cruise system, which still hasn't been surpassed by any other company's technology in our books, even Tesla's Autopilot. That being said, GM does plan to produce the CT6 until March, with the last cars coming off the line set to be twin-turbo V8 V-Series models. If it's going to go, this seems like a pretty great way to make an exit. We'll be patiently awaiting the next flagship Cadillac once this one finally fades away. Chevrolet Impala The Impala is actually a pretty good car. It doesn't sell terribly, and we think it's a completely satisfactory car to drive. However, people would rather have a Traverse or Equinox these days, making the Impala one of the vehicles to find itself on this list. Chevrolet is keeping its smaller brother, the Malibu, but a big, full-size sedan just isn't what people are ordering up these days. It's unfortunate to see it go, but we won't be broken up over it. Chevrolet Cruze We wouldn't rank the Cruze at the top of the compact car class, but if you were looking for a small, cheap American car, it was either this or the Focus. The Cruze had the potential to be a true small performance car if Chevy had ever wanted to make it into one. But sadly, we're seeing it bow out before Chevy ever tried to slot a hot engine and suspension in there to make it competitive with other hot hatches. A Cruze SS would have made enthusiasts take notice.

Luxury car brands scrambling to avoid a blue Christmas

Thu, Nov 2 2017

DETROIT — When financial markets surge to new records, sales of luxury cars usually rise, too. Instead, October U.S. auto sales reports on Wednesday showed that a collapse in sales of luxury sedans is accelerating. Consumers have gradually shifted over to luxury sport utility vehicles from sedans in the past decade, but the trend — which has occurred in both the non-luxury and luxury sedan segments of the auto market — was particularly pronounced in October. Sales of Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz S-Class, long a global benchmark for large, premium sedans, plunged 49 percent in October, and are down 24.8 percent for the year to date. General Motors' Cadillac brand said it sold just 779 of its CTS sedans in October. Demand for that car, designed to compete with German luxury sedans, is down nearly 33 percent for the year. "There's still a significant portion of the market that wants a car, but I'm sure there were people who preferred a horse to a car at one point." Cadillac's best-selling model this year is the XT5 compact SUV, which has more than doubled sales from a year ago. The shift within the luxury vehicle market away from sedans toward SUVs of all sizes is forcing some of the most prestigious brands to scramble to add SUV models to their lineups or boost SUV production to meet demand. "In the short term, there will be pressure to add (consumer) incentives, cut production or both," said Cox Automotive analyst Michelle Krebs. "And we just don't see an end in sight to this trend." The Dow Jones Industrial Average has been trading at all-time highs, usually a good sign for luxury sedans, but as major automakers reported new U.S. vehicle sales for October on Wednesday, sales for passenger cars continued their slide while luxury SUV and crossover sales rose again. According to Kelley Blue Book data, in 2007 luxury sedans made up 7.6 percent of U.S. new vehicle sales, while luxury SUVs made up 4.2 percent. Through September this year, luxury SUVs made up just over 7 percent of the market, compared with 4.9 percent for luxury sedans. In the short term, luxury brands could use holiday season sales promotions to clear slow-selling sedans off dealer lots, analysts said. Toyota's Lexus brand said on Wednesday it will launch its "December to Remember" year-end sales promotion for the 18th straight year.
