 Hello,
I am selling a 1968 Cadillac Eldorado - NO reserve. You bid may win it. I have more projects than I can handle and so this one has to go. It has been in the garage all winter, but now that spring is here, it seems like nice weather to be tinkering again. (plus you have your tax check!)
I always liked the 1968 best because the 1967 had those strange covers where the turn signals are on this year, and this one still has the hidden lights which look so clean and sharp.

Please read everything if you are serious, as I want to make sure I describe the car accurately.

History: I believe that this was a PA car all its life. I know that when I got it, the previous owner was from PA and he had owned it for quite a while.

Engine/drivetrain: 472 V8, front wheel drive. The engine and drivetrain are the best and smoothest of any 472 I've ever owned. My big Caddy V8's typically get a miss from a vacuum leak or a carb misadjustment or a lifter or something, but this car starts right up, idles perfectly and drives well. The transmission shifts nicely, and the steering is light and easy. The engine is dirty and needs to be detailed and painted, but that's cosmetic and not important to me. Comes with a fresh oil change this week.

Brakes: Entirely new lines, pads etc. The car stops fine and is safe to drive.

Interior: Complete, the leather is cracked but only one split. I have been putting moisturizing creams on it as it has become hard, and they will work but take time. The drivers door panel is badly cracked, as is the one next to the rear seat passenger on the same side. This is because the driver's side quarter window is stuck in the down position, and before I got the car and stored it, water was getting in. The seatbelts were tucked into the seat, and are ratty, the carpet is nice, the radio works. the clock and most of the electrics - some power windows, locks etc do not work. I believe someone has messed with the electrics because some of the wires in the door are hanging loose. I have not had time to look further. The vacuum headlights don't leak and open when the car is parked, but they do not open when the lights are turned on, either, so there's an electrical issue there also.

The roof: Clean and soft, one tear, pictured, and some rust bubbling underneath on the C-pillars.

The body: Not great. Driver's door is not repairable. Underneath the stainless there is a lot of rust. All around the car, the lower body, rockers and lower parts of the fenders will need patching. The trunk lid has a few small holes, the hood is good, passenger side door looks solid buts shows signs of previous repairs. Underneath, the rear axle area is rusty, and the trunk floor has a few small holes, pictured. Gas tank looks newer and I have never smelled gas or noticed any leaks. Rear of exhaust from muffler to back of car is missing. Driver's side floor is soft. The hood and passenger fender have white paint marks on them that I have been unable to remove. See pictures.

The trim not in the pictures is included. The trunk is not watertight, and the trunk mat held water, so I removed it but kept it for a template. The driver's mirror is broken but a replacement is included. The rear bumper is shot, but replacements are included for both of the bumper ends (they are the hard parts to get) Also included are a set of new rubber splash shields for inside the wheel wells, a box of misc parts, and the original full-width rubber floor mats.

Overall - It's a running driving complete car. Worth restoring, or an excellent parts car or driver. I would recommend fixing some of the rust before using it regularly.

Some points: I wouldn't drive it a long distance. I've run it for more than an hour, and it doesn't overheat, and the brakes, engine and transmission are fine, but the tires are older and it's an old car that hasn't been used regularly for a while. I'd suggest bringing a trailer, but it's not vital depending on your anxiety level. The rear shocks are shot and the ride is bouncy. Has a good battery that holds a charge.

Any questions, please ask. Once paid for, I can store the car for another month or so, but please talk to me first. I'd like a $250 deposit within 2 days of the auction end, and then the rest when you pick the car up, in cash or money order/cashier's check.

The car has a clean and clear title and can be transferred at the BMV up the road.  Please send me a message on Ebay, or call me if you have any questions (724) 650-4259 from 9am-9pm Eastern time. photo 100_6491.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg photo 100_6492.jpg

Sold as-is where-is. I have done my best to describe this car accurately. I am not looking to make a quick buck, just don't have time or room for this one anymore. There is no reserve, so bid to win.

Why we can't have better headlights here in the U.S.

Tue, Mar 13 2018

It wouldn't be a European auto show if we weren't teased with at least one mainstream vehicle we can't have here. At the Geneva Motor Show last week, the small but vocal contingent of shooting-brake buffs lamented that the Mazda6 wagon won't be coming to our shores, although they can take comfort in the fact that the vehicle won't get the torquey 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine we'll get here. Mercedes-Benz also announced a new headlight technology in Geneva that likely won't be available here anytime soon. It's just the latest in a long line of innovative and potentially lifesaving front-lighting solutions that the federal government doesn't allow in this country due to outdated standards — and a current lack of leadership at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mercedes-Benz's new Digital Light system that debuted in Geneva uses a computer chip to activate more than a million micro-reflectors to better illuminate the road ahead. The Digital Light headlamps works with the vehicle's cameras, sensors and navigation mapping to adjust lighting for the given location and situation and to detect other road users. The Digital Light technology also serves as an extended head-up display of sorts by projecting symbols on the pavement ahead to alert drivers to, say, slippery conditions or pedestrians in the road. And it can even project lines on the road in a construction zone or through tight curves to show the driver the correct path. Digital Light will be available on Mercedes-Maybach vehicles later this year, although like any technology it's bound to trickle down to less expensive vehicles. That is, if we ever get it here in the U.S. Audi, a leader in automotive lighting, has repeatedly run into snags trying to bring state-of-the-art car headlights to the U.S. The German luxury automaker's recently introduced matrix laser headlight system, which performs many of the same trick as Mercedes-Benz's Digital Light, also isn't legal on U.S. roads. And five years after the introduction of its matrix-beam LED lighting, which illuminates more of the road without blinding oncoming motorists with brights by simultaneously operating high and low beams, Audi still can't bring that technology to the U.S. either.

11 vehicles from Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas worth watching

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

This weekend will see the world's collector car crowds descend on Las Vegas, NV for one of the biggest shows on Barrett-Jackson's popular auction circuit. There are hundreds of vehicles up for bidding, ranging from a brand-new Lamborghini Aventador to a spattering of Art Deco classics and a huge swath of classic muscle cars.
While it's virtually impossible to assemble an inarguable list of the best cars coming during the three-day, 700-plus vehicle auction, we've sifted through the listings for this year's show - it was a tough assignment, we promise - and assembled a list of what we think will be some of the most interesting lots. We'll admit, it's a bit heavy on American iron, but if you browse BJ's listings, you'll come to a similar conclusion. Still, scroll down for our list of what we think will be the most interesting vehicles at the upcoming auction.

Cadillac ELR, Nissan Resonance and Ford Atlas win Eyes on Design awards

Fri, 18 Jan 2013

This year's annual Eyes on Design awards were presented at the end of press days for the Detroit Auto Show on Tuesday. Given out for the best production and concept car designs that debuted at the show, and voted on by an esteemed panel of actual car designers, this year's award for best production vehicle design went to the 2014 Cadillac ELR. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, which was the show favorite among Autoblog editors, apparently did not impress the Eyes on Design judges enough with its all-new vent-festooned design.
The award for best concept design was actually split as a tie among the Nissan Resonance and Ford Atlas concepts. Last year's winners were the 2013 Ford Fusion and the Lexus LF-LC concept.
The Eyes on Design organization also presented a new honor this year called the Catalyst Award to Bob Lutz, former Vice Chairman of General Motors. Lutz is reported to have given a defense of design in his acceptance speech, arguing that advancements in quality across the industry as a whole have made good design a key differentiator for buyers.
